So i have a very poorly geared monk (http://us.battle.net...5/hero/14561482) and a few 30-something of all other classes. Is it worth while to spend time on the monk trying to get a hellfire ring for the barbarian (who i'm having the most fun with right now), or should I concentrate on leveling the barbarian up and do that once he is able?
Its a great ring, but I'm not sure 1) if my monk would even be able to do it and 2) if it would take a longer amount of time than it was worth
You're gear's not too bad, at least you look like you know what you're doing. My suggestion would be to farm with the monk, and get a vit ring so all your alts can use it. Drop the shield and find a decent 1 hander so you can farm faster, do mp1, and grind out the gold, plevels and keys you need.
The Hellfire Ring is completely unnecessary for alts, twinking a character is so easy. Exp isn't even important, it's beating the quests that's the bottleneck. Just hit level 42 and buy reduced level requirement weapons and you're set.

The grind to level 42 is the most tedious part of the game, quests are no bottleneck, and I'm assuming he can't afford the 10m or so for a socketed level reduced -18 weapon with inferno-class dps considering his monk's gear. If you're only going to level the barb, sure, you can skip the ring, but have you seen what the fireball proc does to bosses under inferno level?
1)Hellfire ring is great for lvling, especially b/c of the proc, but not necessary.
2)Go for socketed weapons before 42 (rubies!)
3)No need for a socketed -18 weapon. What would you socket? An even more expensive emerald? At 15% crit chance? Or a ruby to add insult to injury to those mobs you're already mowing through?
4)Check out current Monk guides. Go two-handed and use that fake Whirlwind skill with the +25% movement speed rune combined with a lot of spirit gen.
Lvl'n with monster power is the way to go. I'm currently lvl'n a barb and I've already hit lvl 30 and only half way through act 3 on normal. Sure you wanna keep up with gear through the AH but I have actually gained money by either selling on the AH and through the vendors.

I think that he means that if you do every side quest and clear most areas, then you will be 60 before you finished questing trough hell. That's what he means with the quest sbeing the bottleneck, and I agree.
There are two tricks to faster leveling : before lvl 42 : weapons with sockets with red gems in them. Can easily double the damage of any weapon you find. Socket is the MOST important stat on any weapon before lvl 42-
After 42 : lvl reduced weapons : You dont have to spend millions on a lvl 42 1000 dps weapon. At lvl 42, it's enugh to have a 300-400 dps weapon. That will help you at least all the way trough nightmare difficulty. Once you hit hell, you are lvl 50 and can buy lvl 50 -req weapons which are alot cheaper than lvl 42 ones.
And please for the love of god dont lvl with monster power. Unless you want to be lvl 60 and still be stuck somewhere in nightmare... The part that takes the longest is getting trough all the quests. You dont need bonus XP at all. You will start needing bonus XP once you start leveling your paragons, but not for 1-60.
Good advice, thanks. I played for a few hours yesterday and churned out a couple levels with MP10 turned on. I was starting to think that i'll definitely hit 60 before i finish nightmare, so i may turn that off. I think i'll forgoe the ring for now, and keep leveling the barbarian. Found 2 great lvl 40 weapons on the ah for 20k total, dropped my rubys in them, and am enjoying the killing spree greatly.
I'll keep upgrading weapons as i go, and i'll keep an eye out for reduced level weapons. My total worth is about 1.5 mill, so i won't be able to grab anything crazy good.
