Millions and millions of gold....

  • #21
Only really a few ways to get gold. Farm like crazy and pick up everything, selling the good rares/legendaries and selling the mats from the blues. Or invest $$ in the RMAH and buy gold. For around $20 you can get like 70+ million or so. I would say play the AH, but since you dont have enough to get started buying items to flip, that option isnt really available.

Other than that, dont know what else to tell ya.

It's also worth mentioning that when farming it's generally not worth picking up and identifying every rare that drops.

If you have low amounts of gold and are struggling to get more, this is the worst advice in the world. Yes, picking up rares and vendoring them is typically not worth it because it slows down your runs and in effect of that slows down the potential to get better drops.

I would like to point out that Essences and Tears will be steadily increasing in price until the apex happens. With a Goldskin, picking up every blue and rare, I am making very good gold given that I have yet to find that big rare/legendary that's worth more than 500k.

Your basically between a rock and a hard place.
The good items that you want are sky rocketing in price.
The okish items you find are plumeting in price.
(the imk chests are significantly down in price unless your trying to find a 200 vit one)

Diablo is a lottery ticket system for getting rich.
Every ring, weapon, and legendary could potentially net you millions but for the most part they do not.

The money you get is going to be broken up into:
    1. money you pick up (gold find and pickup radius along with a solid 24% move speed will really help this) mp 0 runs will really help the gold per hour

    2. consumables you pickup (know the gems: emeralds sell for 5k, if you don't pass up 5k pots of gold you might want to try clicking on some emeralds)

    3. Rares you vendor - even if you can't ah them they sell for 3-4 k

    4. rares you ah - these are your bread and butter things gold find + pickup, magic find all resist main stat (always put a buyout on these)

    5. Lottery ticket rares - These are your 10 mil -???? mil items

The majority of your money is actually going to come from the lottery ticket rares.
If you haven't hit one yet you are going to be poor.

At high paragon levels you easily get 200-300k gold per alk run (which takes 7-11 min)
-It takes 50 runs of gold find to equal one good rare/legendary (around 9 hours)

Do NOT stop to pickup gold or the rares other people have mentioned (2 handers, quivers, masks, spirit stones, bows, crossbows lvl 58 weapons)

What your looking for is the legends, gloves, weapons, rings, and amulets.

Do not stop to kill packs that run away from you. It should take 30 sec to locate and kill a pack of mobs if your messing around with a pack of casters that spread out you are wasting your time.

When your just starting out it is hard to play the ah and snipe auctions, mainly because there is a horde of other people trying to snipe auctions as well. What I have found is that if I buy gear for myself, and then re-list it for a substantial profit when i'm not playing you can turn a tidy profit without the same amount of risk.
*(hang on to the old item so you don't get left without pants)

The biggest mistake you can make is not recognizing a godly item for another class and listing it cheaply. This can easily be a 60-80 mil mistake. I had a friend that found a good lacuni got 26 mil and was really happy about it, but the lacuni was in the 90 mil plus range...

    good luck with the farming

When prices are high, its a good time to sell. What you find will sell for more.

When prices are low, its a good time to buy. What you find will sell for less.

When your clear rate is fast, you'll find more loot. This is profitable no matter if prices are high or low.

TL;DR. Try to increase clear rate. If prices are low buy to boost your gear, If prices are high, sell to fund your spending.

    It takes time. Be patient.

If you follow a man who is dropping money on the street, you are efficient.
If you are picking up only the large bills, you are effective.

Try to be efficient by choosing good farm routes and not stray off.
Try to be effective by not picking up blues and every last rare.

    Best advice:

    1. Achieve gear that can easily clear mp0 act 3.
    2. Farm til Paragon 100 (while not spending)
    3. Picking up anything under L63 yellows will only slow you down.
    4. Pick up only jewelries/legends if you are really efficient.
    5. Hope to land a quintfecta ammy.

These topics come up often and are always replied with the same "Farm more.", which doesn't help the OP in any way.

I've gone from 5 million to 15 million just selling gems. I have recipes for Star cuts of each color and I just farm until I have no more of the crappy rares up on the AH(the ones that sell for like 25k >.>). By that time, I usually have 100-150 Flawless gems and I just use the tomes I pick up and make gems until I am out. Then I put up everything, except Flawless, on the AH. Usually takes about a day to sell everything with the occasional re-list.

Also, right now Inferno Essences are going for quite a bit. Although they are going down in price again. If you have some, I'd sell those off if you need money right now.

However, if you want to invest, the new crafting recipes in 1.0.7 might use Essences/Tears, you can start picking up Blues during your farm runes and salvaging them. It's a bit of a gamble, though. You might end up with a whole bunch of essences worth 500g a piece :|

Hope this helps! Good luck :)

    edit:
I almost forgot, use this site for looking at prices. Helps a ton.

While you provide a means of making gold to the OP, all you've really done is state what you've criticized others for stating, which is farm more...

So yeah, just farm, however you want to do it.

I have to point out that picking up rares under ilvl 63 IS a good idea. Weapons of ilvl say 60 can still achieve the same dps as ilvl 63 weapons, and are still useful.

I've been trying some of the tips from this guide to see if it helps my money earning problems.

I've already been running MP0 Alk route with my oh-so-original Whirly Barb (I hate how unclean it makes me feel, but wanted to make my time invested mean something and hit the Plvl 50 mark before I get too old). I've been picking up all legendaries, rare ilvl61+ weapons, jewellery, and some gems/tomes if nearby and not too much of a time waste. This has been worth it, and I noticed an increase in Legendary drops after a full day farming, purely down to speed.

I tried some of the suggestions here for picking up rares. Sometimes I picked up all of them and vendored, sometimes I picked up a selection of types and vendored. None of these were very profitable, I found less legends in the same time and got sick of standing around in town identifying for minimal profit.

The other day I decided to do some key farming for a change. Stuck it on MP5 and blasted through enough for 4 machines (at around Plvl 46). Doing that I found more Legendaries dropping than normal, about equivalent to a full days run in half the time. Sure it took longer to kill packs, but it felt more satisfying and rewarding seeing all those orangey brown glows shooting to the sky.

Trying to match kill efficiency with better MF from MP level, I tried some runs at MP3. Speed was better, drops were considerably worse and it annoyed me. For me, it seems that it's MP0 for speed Plvl farming or MP5 for loot. Either are good.

In all instances, I didn't find a rare worth more than 2mill, and only 3 worth selling for more than 1mill. Averaging it out over the time spent, I actually made more from the piles of gold that I picked up than from the loot of each run (not counting Legendaries). Due to this, I've spent the money I made gearing up my Witch Doctor to start Inferno with some cheap +gold find gear (helped by a Thing of the Deep I found while farming, +20pickup radius, yay!). He's now on Act II, MP1, with +200%GF and progressing well.

This is just my experiences making money recently, and I'll admit that I've tested it all far from the strict scientific rules others measure the progress of their runs. In a few days, I've found out what works best for me.

Oh yeah, and I tried AH flipping. I feel it needs several million to be worth attempting, and you need to be knowledgeable, prepared to accept the occasional loss and happy to try and build your starting fund back again if it fails. I managed to make just over a million flipping low legendaries, sniping them and reselling or turning to brimstones and relisting but it took me over an hour and wasn't worth my time. I'm happier farming and playing the game for the money. Buying and reselling on the AH might be effective in time, but it's not what the game's about for me.

What I do is I just farm keys for the infernal machine on MP3 and pick up everything Blue and up. I keep and sell mediocre rares for 50k+ depending on how bad it is, the rest I salvage and sell the crafting mats and tomes I get. In the last 10 hours or so I've made 3 mil. Its not the fastest way to make gold but it's consistant and I've been steadily increasing.

    1. Farm low MP repeatedly to level up paragon. Some pickup radius would be nice to gather all the gold.

    2. Ignore all blue weapons, gems, tomes, "unlikely-to-sell" items such as bows, two-handed weapons, shields, rare quivers, sources, etc. Ignore chests other than Resplendant. Ignore goblins unless you have 5 stacks of NV.

    3. Do not salvage. Do not stash anything you don't believe will sell fast. Sell everything to the vendor.

    4. Do not distract yourself with key/uber runs. Focus on maxing out paragon.

    5. Do not craft gems. Do not craft items at all. Save up as much gold as you can and then: A. Significantly upgrade a piece of gear and continue farming, or B. Stalk the AH and snipe quality items with minutes left to bid (no buyout). Proceed to flip these items for market price.

    6. Regarding flipping items, you can also flip gold AH items for RMAH (price these higher, but not unreasonably higher) and convert BNet balance into gold. Multiple successful flips and you can start flipping 100M items for double the price if you manage to land decent bid-only items.

    7. Don't buy gold unless you're a man/woman on a mission (e.g. someone like me who's deliberately trying to top the Diablo leaderboard in DPS, EHP, or whatever). If you're just playing casually, stick to flipping items and incessant solo farming. Flipping keeps the market moving, and it's also a great gold sink.

    8. Farm more. I'm sorry, but it's true. Farm more and repeatedly farm to build up paragon. Stick to a route and grind. Avoid multiplayer games that slow down the progress (though when the new patch comes out, I believe this will be a moot point).

Can't argue with this. The legendaries certainly seem to be the way of making gold. I can struggle for weeks trying to sell rares, undercutting the market value by a considerable amount and still watch the price slowly tumble until I might as well salvage it. A legendary is so much simpler, it's either worth more than a Brimstone and sells on it's first AH list or salvaged.

I've had a few lucky drops. Zunimassa's Chest with very good stats that I sold for just under 200mill. That paid for nearly all the gear I've got on my barb now, and allows me to farm MP5 comfortably. I've not managed to find anything else worth more than 10mill. It's completely down to luck and only took one item to really make a difference for me. Unfortunately now a single upgrade for my barb costs a fortune, so he's been wearing the same gear for months (hence why 200mill didn't go as far as it would now :( ).

Recently, I've been spending my gold on gear for my other classes, and now have each of them at 80k+ dps, easy enough for a few mill per class now the AH is flooded. I'm going to get completely sick of farming Paragon on my barb before I get to 100, so intend to get to level 66 (about +200%mf/gf) and then switch him to MP5 for item/key farming for a change. Then I can start levelling my other classes Paragon to save the boredom. Now their gear is all done to a decent level, enough to finish Inferno and Paragon farm, I can finally start saving with my fingers crossed for good drops that might give me an upgrade instead of having to buy it.

Specifically @ ignore goblins with less than 5 NV... every legendary/set piece ive gotten from goblins (two inna's pants are my most memorable) were off gob's with ZERO stacks of NV.

By farming you can make like 500k per hour purely from gold picked up. And then some extra cash if you are lucky with drops. Anyway don't play this game with attitude like "Omg why nothing drops for me" because you might never get anything good, rng is rng. Play just for fun and gold and items will eventually come.

Basically this. Whenever i dont have any thoughts about drops or gain i tend to actually get good drops. It's magical :D

The last decent drop i had like a week ago was a witching hour belt that dropped off of the first or second champion pack in act 3, stonefort. Wasn't that good though since it sold for only 50m.

Best bet is to farm on MP1 Don't bother picking blues up only rares and legendarys. Then Vendor all the rares that are junk and pick up all the gold that's on the floor. I made a short guide --> http://www.diablofans.com/topic/79074-whats-worth-selling-in-the-eu-ah-for-new-players/page__p__1086186#entry1086186 a few months ago, to give you an idea of what to keep back for the AH. The basic rule is even if you only make 20k per rare it all adds up, and you will still be making gold it just takes time and some luck :)
