I am Paragon 30 on my Monk and have always farmed MP 2 becuase thats all I can do. With 5 stacks I have 245 MF with Templar and I have never gotten a single upgrade or anything worth posting on the AH that would give me the millions of gold I need to farm higher MPs. In fact I only have the gear to do MP2 because I was forced to buy gold off the RMAH. Id probably still be stuck in Act 1 if there wasnt a RMAH and probably wearing blues off the NPC vendors. Thats how bad my luck with drops is. In 5 months of playing this game I have only sold two decent items on the AH and both of them were back in July before I quit.
Can someone with 500+ mil in gear that gets 10 legendaries a day tell me your secrets please. I know these people exist cause I watch their streams and I see them get Legendaries. Since my Monk has hit 60 and started grinding Paragon levels I have only gotten 3. So thats 1 Legendary per 10 paragon levels so obviously Im doing something very very wrong. I dont care if I get bad ones Id just like to know that they are in fact dropping and my character isnt bugged. Im getting really sick of playing 8 hours a day for vendor loot. Also I cant quit, at least not until I have made back what I had to spend on the RMAH.
1. If you think you would be even slightly faster, lower MP level.
2. Paragon level 0-30 take as long as paragon 75-80, see this chart: http://www.diablofans.com/topic/66318-paragon-level-chart/ - plus, you have much more magic find on higher paragon level which automatically increases the amount of legendaries significantly. At paragon 50+ you'll find on average 1 legendary each run (give or take), I only found a handful of legendaries before 30, too.
3. There was a thread about a similar issue recently. Don't assume that everyone's a billionaire; some people who found a lot of stuff just want to brag about it, those who were unlucky just post less. But in said thread were even some people who were 80+ and still didn't have much more than 100m-200m.
well im doing like 5-7 minute alkaizers on mp0 with max mf and can get about 20 legendaries per day if i play long enough(not every day cuz of RNG), but 80% of them are brimstones : /
for comparison: first 10 paragons would take me under 2h with my current speed, and even 3h periods without any legendary happened in the past already so it's just RNG being a bitch, shit happens bro
Do you just blow threw trash and only kill elites?
If you are grinding paragon and items, very fast, low MP Alk runs using max MF and max XP gear are extremely effective. Get max movement speed and use a build that focuses speed for your class -- Tempest Rush build I believe for monks.
When you say more kills = more chances at loot you are on the correct path. But let's add some logic to that, if an Alk run is gaining you more xp per hour, it's also because you are getting more kills per hour, which is also, as you note, giving you more chances at loot per hour. To your other question, no you don't just kill elites. Most legendaries come from trash packs -- not because they have a better chance to drop legendaries but rather because we kill so many of them (again more chances outweighs greater percentange chance of fewer elites).
I have sample runs in my channel below of a fast 70+ mil/xp hour Alk run -- you do this repeatedly at max MF with a Tempest Rush build and you should see legendaries and sets dropping far more frequently -- I can't promise you they'll be good legendaries but you will see them.
EDIT: last note to restress max MF and XP -- having a hellfire ring on you and follower, as well as a Leoric's at least on you make a huge increase to XP gain. If you are farming MP0-1 runs, having XP there far outweighs any damage benefit to the speed of your levelling. And max MF -- just get it done -- it's a bit of a pain when you are low paragon but it gets better and you can drop pieces out as you gain levels and more base MF. If you are farming Paragon without Max MF and high XP %, you are really wasting alot of opportunity and time.
Id love to use a hellfire if I could ever get a carry group. Have 3 machines just rotting in my stash. Also I did a few runs on MP2 vs MP 1 and I got almost exactly the same so thats why I do MP2. If Im gonna get the same exp and have it take just as long I might as well get the xtra MF bonus out of it.
I am in a similar situation as the original poster. I think I am only plvl 14. Based on this conversation, am I understanding correctly that I should first focus on leveling and then when I hit plvl 50 or so focus on legendaries and higher MP levels?
I would suggest playing hc. The economy is a lot better. Even good blue items still sell for gold. Its a lot more enjoyable for casual players in my opinion. Just a thought.

OK dropped my dual wield set for a 1250 DPS skorn with LS but my DPS is only like 115k with self buff so even on MP0 some stuff doesnt get 1 shot and I have to circle back on groups of mobs a few times to kill them all. Just finished an Alk run in 11 mins and only got 6 mil exp so thats only 32-35 mil per hour. Half of what you get. I guess I will just have to farm that slow until I can afford 100 mil items so I can 1 shot everything.
Bear in mind, my 70+ mill vid is with Leoric's, Hellfire on me, and Hellfire on follower which adds up significantly. An 11 min run is not bad -- if you are clearing the masses of mobs and you have good MF, you will accomplish your item goal. Once you have some items going, you can sell them to buy a reasonable Leoric's if you want to speed your XP as well. Hellfire ring, you should be able to solo with a defensive build at some reasonable MP level. I did ubers when the patch first hit with something like 65k dps in a very defensive setup at MP5. Eventually bumped it to MP7 at around 80k dps and very defensive build. It's not 100% but so you farm a few more keys/machines -- you don't need a perfect ring -- the XP boost is the main thing for farming.
EDIT: also, if you go back a month or so, I was at ~50 mil, you go back to when I first started Alk runs, it was lower than that. It takes a bit to get familiar with what works and what doesn't, learning not to follow a route that will cause you to backtrack, not looping back for 1 or 2 mobs, picking up only high value yellows (learning to recognize which yellow weaps are worth picking up by name so you don't ctrl over them or waste time IDing), etc., etc. Getting better with each run and tweaking spec or gear or whatever to be more efficient can become the game within the game for a bit.
Now, admittedly once you get very efficient about it, it can get somewhat repetitive (to say the least) so I've usually broken it up with some spec changes or other variations but, long and short, if you put some focus on it you should get a sequence going that kills lots of mobs very quickly and efficiently. If you do that at 375% MF (max 5 stack NV MF value at MP0), law of averages will start to translate what appears to be bad RNG now into fairly consistent worthwhile item finds.
Well I been looking at a lot of people's profiles and their elite kills. Seems like 20k is the magic number for having tons of gold. Most people with 20k kills or more have 50+ million gold items in every slot. So only need 14k more elite kills. I mean if I cant get at least 1-2 decent drops killing 14,000 elites I quit.
Go into the "Looking for group" group chat and post that you're looking for someone to carry to farm alk route mp0-2 with you. There is usually someone powerful that's bored and will be glad to help. Telquessir#1437 if you're on the US servers. I can blast mp1-2 with archon and you just run behind me and pick up loot. MS 24%+ strongly recommended

Im right at that magic number, and I get decent drops almost daily. (sell-able, keepers/traders)
Add me if your not in the EU and I can take you through some keyruns/farming.
I think that this ^ is a short term solution to your problem. Higher total damage output (and thus leveling faster) should result in more drops over a large span of time than MF. If you are running +20% MF from level 60(0) to 60(10) you've increased your MF by less than if you had higher DPS and made it to 60(17) in the same time. Getting from 10-17 should only take 4 hours if you're running MP0 act 3 efficiently (1M / min) so the difference is made up pretty quickly.
I've read this thread yesterday after a rather bad day with legendaries and thought: "Heck lets try with more MF". Bought me a Sunkeeper with socket and critdamage for the offhand and it seems the drops increased. Tho it might just be random
Paid 4 mill for 900ish dps 190 dex, 54 CD and 41 MF. My dps stayed the same roughly and so I still blow up everything on mp0.
If you are playing a dualwield setup and you could afford a Sunkeeper with good/decent stats I'd suggest you might want to try it. Since for me at least i traded a bit of weapon dps and CD for MF and dex,
I'll second this suggestion, a Sunkeeper is what I would consider practically mandatory for an MFing gear set.

Just an example, i posted about this on another topic, i normally do mp8 and out of 10 runs i will get atleast 5 leggies, but when you do mp8 you dont really get that xp, so i did mp2 to farm some paragon level. i have no extra mf and each run i did i got a leggie and my runs is about 20mins, it is all about RNG and luck. i did about 15 runs i got on 2 of the runs 2 leggies, and the rest 1

My normal farming run is:
Core
Tower 1
Crater 2
Keep 3
Keep 2
Rakkis Backwards
Fields of Slaughter + Cave
Skycrown Backwards
So Im getting tons of elites, 1-2 resplendants, and 2-4 goblins every run. So why dont I get loot?
you cant... if rng hates you, thats it
keep trying I guess, if you can stand it anymore ... I couldnt
