Are MP0 speed runs terrible for loot?

Emberos thats something 95% will never understand. They will keep trying to tell you, that mp5 or mp8 is super nice, because you get like more mf and bigger chance for bonus drops.

Also, MP0 is much worse on loot, so I go minimum MP1.

    Don't spread false information please.

its not false information. act 1 and 2 aside on mp0, I had ran a dozen of test mp0 and mp1 act 3. the rare count is higher on mp1. in mp0 u get 1-2 rare per elite minimum where on mp1 u get 2-3, very rarely u will only get 1 like in mp0.

strangely enough on my test run. mp0 keeps dropping plans for some reason. I had 6-7 totals in 10 mp0 runs and only 2-3 on mp1. legendaries are pretty even, I actually got more in mp0 but the difference is so minimal that it people shouldn't read so much into it.

MP1 has 1% chance of dropping an additional rare, so your estimate of 1-2 rares (MP0) vs 2-3 rares (MP1) is simply not true, it's - like Huminator says - spreading false information, based on luck/subjective perception/whatever.

One more time: read the magic find thread. If you think there's something wrong, do a proper test yourself (collecting lots of data and not just a dozen of runs, and keep track of all numbers accordingly and not "1-2 vs 2-3 drops"). But don't spread false information.

Your second paragraph makes it look even more ridiculous - the numbers you properly counted are contradicting your theory, but that's supposed to be luck, so "don't read so much into it". Hilarious.

i did collect the data yes it is only a dozen of runs. but where is your proof that all these are false information? I had to at least made an extra run to town to ID and clear out the bags on mp1 consistently, i pick up all items. All my runs are consistent, keep 1-3, the two towers, core of arreat, and the cave in field of slaughter. unless I keep getting goblins on mp1 my data suggest mp1 drops more rare quality loot, no i didnt count the goblins, each run should have 1 chest on ice cavern/cavern of frost, maybe another one in keep depth 1 or 2. Perhaps I should record how many elites as well in each run. But from just item count and observation I still concludes mp1 is better than mp0.

I am curious where you get the 1% additional rare comes from too, have you run the test yourself? is that posted on official guide? mf has been proven again and again that it doesn't yield additional items, before paragon was introduced a extensive goblin run was tested. 200 over runs and the total drop number is relatively the same, regardless of 0% 100% 200% mf, just u get more rares and blues as your mf move up. blizzard has listed this on official game guide too, mf merely bumping up the quality of items, so more blues/whites can be yellow but the number of items drop would be relatively the same. again i farm keys on mp 6-7. without full stack, elites consistently chuck 2-4 rares please do not tell me that merely coincidence and I should stop spreading false rumor? go try it yourself~ you will be lucky to see 2-3 rares on mp0 without full stack, same with chest and goblins. go open or kill them before full stack on mp0 and all you see are mostly blue. do it on higher mp u can see at least 1.

contradicting the number of my count? on what? the legendary or the plan? regarding the plan. the test were done back to back. all mp0 10 times, plan just keep dropping, yes I counted this as rares. I bet some of you has the same experience, rings keep dropping when usually u havent seen one in awhile, back to back runs with exact same legendary drop. how can that be RNG? when there is sooo many legendary to drop and u get multiple ones on the same day.

as for the legendary in 10 runs mp0 yield me 5 legendary, mp1 yield 3. the difference is only 2 in 10 runs thats why i said you should not read into it. but mp1 consistently yield me 1/2-1 bag of rares. I ran mp3 farm the previous weeks, again i observe mp3 consistently more yellow drop compared to mp0 from each elite, goblin and chest. And runnings those 20 runs actually yield me more legendaries than farming mp3 all week the week before if you want to use that against me. But speaking purely yellows mp0 yield less on my runs.

Dude, it is official. There was a picture of the chart of all the different MF, GF, Exp, and extra loot for each MP levels. MP 1 extra loot is only 1% more comparing to MP 0. I m not saying you are wrong, but you are just having a better streak in MP1...

This chart? The loot you speak of is the key drops and organ drops. The 1% does not include the drop rate for legendary items.

What are you talking about? I didn't say anything about legendary drop rate related to that extra loop or "bonus item". He was saying he got more rares in MP1, and I was saying the chart said MP1 has only 1% more rares than MP0...The loots i spoke of is just about the extra rares...

    #1 - When you have very limited playtime, playing 1 hour at MP5/whatever is way more satisfying than playing 1 hour at MP0 (yes, I know, not really the point being discussed, but it takes me to #2);

#2 - What good is playing in MP0 if you get burned out and stop playing the game (temporarily or permenantly)? How efficient are you then?

My point is: MP0 is only the best option if you either die too much in other MP's (like most of my characters) or if you can go into 'Zombie Mode' and play something that presents zero challenge for 5 hours or more. Otherwise, just use the MP level that presents the most fun to you.

Yes, that chart -- note the small increase to XP and MF as compared to the large increase in Monster Health. This is especially true if we consider we should enter the equation at max MF 300% and that much of our runs are done at 5 stacks 375%. At that point, and extra 25% MF isn't that substantial when compared to the amount of extra time it takes to work through the increased Health. If we play it out and extrapolate what those numbers mean on a macro scale instead of taking a very small sample size of our own individual experience to date (whatever that experience is), we will see the odds are not in our favor for higher MPs working out better in the long run.

This will hold true at least until either:

a ) Blizzard adjusts the values shown in this chart
b ) Gear inflation gets to a point that we are one-shotting all white mobs and killing elite packs in 2-3 seconds even at MP10

Neither of those circumstances look to be on the near horizon.

For me over the past 800+ hours I have found that the rate of drops makes no difference with what MP you play. The take on the matter I have is the faster the run the more runs you can make thus increasing your chances for good drops. I would rather run MP2 three times in the time it would take me to run MP6 once.

It is not for rare drops. What that 1% does is when a white mob rolls to drop an item, any item, the game gives you a 1% chance to get another drop, completely independent in quality from the other item. That bonus loot, if it rolls to be dropped, can be anything form 1 gold to a legendary item and is only influenced by your magic find. Temsen quoted the blue post with that info.

Actually, it is always an item drop for the extra drop, it cannot be gold, health globe, crafting materials. There was a blue post on this a while ago. The first drop does not necessarily have to be an item, it can be a tome, gold or whatever, but the extra drop if you get the roll for additional drops, will always be an item. The quality of the item is in no way guaranteed, it may be a white or a legendary.

its not false information. act 1 and 2 aside on mp0, I had ran a dozen of test mp0 and mp1 act 3. the rare count is higher on mp1. in mp0 u get 1-2 rare per elite minimum where on mp1 u get 2-3, very rarely u will only get 1 like in mp0.

strangely enough on my test run. mp0 keeps dropping plans for some reason. I had 6-7 totals in 10 mp0 runs and only 2-3 on mp1. legendaries are pretty even, I actually got more in mp0 but the difference is so minimal that it people shouldn't read so much into it.

As others said, that's just RNG. The difference between MP0 and MP1 for act 3 is only 25% MF. I'm going to ignore the 1% bonus drop because 1% doesn't make much difference. If you have 0 MF on gear then for most elites that's 75% MF vs 100% MF, which is only 12.5% more rares/legendaries in MP1, at most (when you account for your base chance at finding rares). You sound like you're seeing 2-3x as many rares in MP1 as MP0 (if you weren't the one who posted about 3 clears to fill up inventory on MP0 vs full inventory every MP1 clear, then I'm sorry), which goes against everything known about MF and the loot system in game.

To be fair, I have seen the "elites drop 1-2 rares at XX MF but 2-3 at YY MF" before first hand, but that's just RNG at few data samples. I provided some of the data for the MF thread and at one of my MF values I was finding VERY few rares from elites for the first 50 or so elites. By the time I had killed 200 elites, the average had worked itself out.

I also have a lot of varience in my clears in terms of number of rares. Sometimes I have to empty my inventory after 3 areas, sometimes I can last for 5+. There's just too much RNG in loot, and I pick up all rares except weapons below ilvl 62.

If you do opt to try and collect some data about number of rares collected, the best method imo is to track total number per run, as well as time per run. The real comparison should be rares per time since we're talking about efficiency. You should definitely see more rares from MP1 but it should be more like 5-10% more per run, depending on your base MF. If you do track those numbers for say 5 runs on each MP, you'll probably see a decent amount of varience.

no i picked up all items thats why I can tell that I did actually get more loot on mp1 than 0. I am not saying I get double 2-3 times more loot. but my bag fills quicker and count wise i would say half a bag or less on average.
when u are picking loot selectively and not running the same route thats when u skew your data, having said that i do have this variance on my run because the cave on field of slaughter can have 5 different spawn location, sometimes i find it right away meaning i get to encounter less champ/elites.
i didnt count how many elites, goblin and chest I encounter. and that could be a big deal, yes an area can have 2 goblin spawn, I have seen it many times (KD2, VoA to name a few) so please do not say this is false information. i run enough key runs to that sometimes an area is barren. u can get 5 stack from festering wood easily but it doesnt always happen. black canyon mines u can usually find a few champ/packs but there are times i only found 1, arcanus and sewer has at least 1 but u usually can find more. same with towers and keep 3 in act3.

why all rare weapon ilvl62 and above? ilvl 60/61 items all can roll max damage and stat when killed on monster lvl 63 (mp0 act 3 or any mp above that). before 1.0.4 that might be the case but it is no longer hold true.

i agree with the time added to runs but if it is only merely a few minutes more won't u take the extra 25% more mf? as a ww barb you don't want to go too low because its harder to keep your berserker up and that actually slows u down. i run on mp2 this week because it gives me decent fury regeneration (even with 5pc IK and fury passive mp1 is difficult, i have tried mighty weapon and it works quite well on mp0 but on mp2 mace is better) without compromising the speed of the run

I only pick up lvl 62+ weapons because it takes almost perfect rolls for a 60/61 to be good because of the lower base damage. The odds for that are atrocious so I take my chances with the higher ilvl weapons instead.

For armor I pick up all of them because the base armor doesn't make as much a difference, it's all about the rolls.

blizz did patch the weapon 61/62/63 rolls max damaged too didnt they? before mp was introduced

Yes, they did, but it only applies to affixes rolled. The weapons still retain their base dps that depends on the ilvl.

For ilvl 63: swords that DPS is 242.2-248.5
    For ilvl 62: 210-216.3
    For ilvl 61: 181.3-187.6

Granted, most of the final weapon dps comes from the +damage rolled on the weapon but for the lower ilvl you need higher rolls to obtain the same dps. It's hard enough getting any decent rolls to begin with, let a lone needing higher rolls for the lower ilvl weapons. Still, it's a personal preference, and I've seen those lvl 61s on the AH for high prices, so I might grab some on occasion.

You are right and I appreciate the mature correction. Not sure what I was thinking considering that I have known that with each MP level it is a 10% increase in the chance to drop an organ or key. My bad entirely.

Your account or the character you are playing might be flagged for bad loot. As stupid and silly as this theory sounds Im starting to buy into more and more every day. My Monk just hit Paragon 43 and has only found 6 legendaries since hitting Inferno. 2 Pus Spitters, Hellrack, Ivory Tower, a badly rolled int Manticore, and some rank 8 BS plans if that counts. I also have a Barb thats only paragon 15 and seems to find 2-3 a day. Both do the same farming route and both run them on MP3. I also alternate days playing them and usually play each for 6-7 hours so they get roughly the same playing time. Neither has magic find gear. I just cant explain it and it cant just be RNG. The paragon 15 character has probably found at least 30 legendaries including one that sold for 40 mil and another rare item that sold for 50 mil. I know thats not a lot but its more than all the items my paragon 43 character has ever sold combined. At this point RNG is out the window and it has to be something else. How can one character get so much better drops than the other?

Going to try and test this out. Im gonna only play the Monk for a month. Then Im only going to play the Barb for a month. Will play each for the same amount of time a day and record what drops I get that actually go to the AH and how many Legendaries I get. If there is a overwhelming difference in the data then it is true that accounts or characters can be flagged for bad loot upon creation.

I am going to zero in on the basic question of what extra magic find gives you. Based on the MF research project we know that extra MF is going to give you a better chance of getting a better quality item out of the each "drop chest" that you get to open after you kill a bad guy. We also know that there is an inflection point around 250 MF where you should routinely be getting 3 Rares for every elite group killed.

Has anybody ran into any research about whether there is an inflection point where Legendaries become more common? If this is possible I would assume that you would need a lot of item or paragon based magic find + high MP MF bonuses to reach this inflection point. And that would be a good argument for running at higher MP even though the pure XP efficiency of MP0 is clear to most.

Stated a different way, if you are looking to maximize your legendary efficiency it might be that higher monster power is the way to go.

Legendaries vs MF is a linnear function because it is the first option that is rolled.
