Why farm higher MPs?

  • #1
I have been farming Mp 0 on my monk using a TR build and I just 1 shot everything. Gotten to Paragon 16 after being 60 for only 3 days without using an exp gem so I think Im progressing at a decent rate. I have 105k unbuffed DPS and 122k with blazing wrath up and 38k health so obviously I could probably easily MP 2-3. But why should I? I keep hearing people say WW barbs are better than TR monks at farming cause they can do MP 5-6 just as easy.

OK whats the point? Why would I want to set it to a difficulty where mob health and damage output is a lot higher thus slowing my farming runs down a lot. I already noticed a difference in going up to MP 2. Sure I killed everything without dieing but runs were noticeably longer. Right now my Act 3 run takes about 25 mins but I dont do Alk runs I pretty much hit everything except 1 or 2 of the levels on the way down to Azmodan. I just figure why waste my 5 stacks and relog when theres still plenty of mobs left.

So other than for Ubers and Keys and maybe a challenge is there really any point in doing a higher MP?

if you have enough gear you can go fast enough to make it better raising the mp and sometimes mecanics slow itself when everything dies too quick

    No. Nail on the head.

It may just be my imagination but it seems like I get less stuff when I go to Monster Power 1 (especially) or 2 than I do just trudging along @ MP-o with gold+ magic find.

    That's just RNG for you.

You technically get more loot at higher levels. Whether or not you want to take the time to do so is your business. Everyone has a sweetspot where they can farm equally fast as lower MP levels and just as well so that they don't die during the runs.

No one farms efficiently on MP9-10, usually. Even if you can wreck MP10 elites in 10 seconds or less, it's still drastically longer than melting elites in 1-3 seconds on MP1-5.

To challenge yourself and have fun.

I went on a few speed runs with friends MP0.

It was the most boring, stupid, impatient and greedy method of gaming I have ever witnessed. I would never do that again.

If you scrubs want to flip on the EZ MODE switch and mindlessly farm until you're bored to death and quit, please do. I say....stop acting like you're impoverished Chinese item farmers on some efficiency quota and play the damn game with some pride.

The best method I have found for item farming and MP setting is to set the MP at the highest level you can steamroll through, speed is the key here.

For Keys/Ubers you want MP5 or higher. (MP plays an important role here)

For challenge and fun, set MP to as high as you can!

Ubbers, Keys farming and fun/challenge are the only valid reason for farming at high mp. People thinking they get more and better loot doing the high mp instead of the low, are just misinformed clueless persons.

People want the high mp's the be worth farming. But facts are blizzard designed it not to be. And no matter how much you want it to be good. Its not. And thats just the way it is.

Considering that the bonus item chance only applies to white mobs... no, it does not play any role in key/organ farming.

    Wait.

    What?

I was of the understanding that the "bonus item" chance DIRECTLY affected Keys/Organ drops.

Yes, MP. Not bonus item. 10% for every MP level, 5% with MP0

I farm MP6...sometimes 7. I found 12 legendaries in a 3 hour session the other night. It's far more entertaining when you actually have to try. As well, the drops are good.

Not to offend anyone directly, but people that have good gear and then farm EZ mode...I consider to be pussies.

What's the point of farming EZ mode? To get good gear? For what? You don't need that shit on EZ mode.

Unless they're playing for profit, in which case, they're a fuck-head.

RNG is RNG. Doesnt change the fact that the lower mp's is statisticaly better. Do 1 month of a mp 7 farm and do 1 month of mp3 farm. XP and Loot will greatly favour your month of mp3. Fun/challenge vs Efficiency (loot and xp)

    lol

Ahhhh, I see, I got confused with the MP +% chance and bonus item stats.

    This confused me:

I just wanted to jump in to clarify that Magic Find does not increase the chance of key drops. Only Monster Power level does so.

So, my point still stands (even more so in fact), just not because of "bonus item".

    Fair enough.

    Why?

Efficiency means better/more drops, and in a loot based game, drops ARE fun.

I see the fun on both sides of the fence, sometimes i'll have a blast doing some efficient farming runs, and finding great stuff.

And sometimes i'll spec for pure badassery and try higher MP for the challenge. (also, Act 1 at higher MP is fun as heck!)

    That's a valid point.

But I seem to get more Legendaries at MP6 than my friends get doing these horrid speed runs.

Blizzard really needs to knock people off this habit by offering more incentive to farm higher MP. Otherwise it would seem most people are going to take the short-cheese.

That can depend on ALOT of different factors, on char MF, Para lvl, how potent your gear is, etc. (right now I see FAR better drops on lower MP with higher MF, but im only lvl 21 para, with around 50k unbuffed DPS on the MF set.)

I do agree on better incentives for higher MP though, especially past MP5.
