Why do you play. Let's keep this a positive thread and not belittle anyone for their reasons.
I play the game to have fun and unwind at the end of the day.
Since I don't allow quick join, I can play alone and "pause" the game when I need to stop to help my Wife with something or my 7 month old son wakes up, needs to be fed, or needs to be changed. This game is great for parents to play when they get a free moment.
I also get to play with some of the friends that I have made playing other games and keep in touch with them.
I've enjoyed the Diablo franchise since the original and actually played through 1 and 2 again just before 3 came out so I could get a story refresh. It's a great story line and it is still very enjoyable to play.
Same, beer, heavy metal and diablo 3 at the end of the day to unwind. Plus i love gaining DPS, the hunt for items, making that gold, buy/selling in the auction house. Oh, and killing monsters is fun I guess too
Also, the official forum is so saturated with trolls and idiots that sometimes I can't help but go there to troll the troll posts. It's such a disgusting cesspool of human scum. I pretty much go to the official forum just to put up "WTS" offers.
I find the quest to keep upping my dps to be quite challenging. That to me is fun as well as just playing the game, trying to improve my abilities. (which I have had some luck with)

Because other games are so terrible nowadays (with the exception of Arma, which is hard to get players together to play, and Starcraft, which is physically and mentally exhausting, even though both are amazing games), I just keep coming back to Diablo despite all its problem and how bored I'm getting doing the same easy runs over and over, improving my efficiency ever so slightly every once in a while, and messing around with no-AH-no-farming characters and other random made-up challenges.
I play because it's my favorite game ever, quite honestly. I couldn't be happier with how Diablo 3 turned out. Some people don't like the focus on the Action part of Action-RPG, rather than focusing on the RPG part (and I fully understand these complaints), but for me it's perfect. I really, really enjoyed Diablo 2 back when I was 13 or 14 years old, and I really, really enjoy Diablo 3 at 27 years old. For me it's about the item hunt, the casual OR hardcore level of play (made better with Monster Power) and just murdering demons I play while I'm working doing DSL technical support, and I play when I get off work (and there's nothing to watch on TV). I realize I might be in the minority, but I've been playing Witch Doctor since may 15th and loved every minute of it!
Been playing since Diablo beta disk was released back in the 90's. Love gearing my toon. I can play for 30 minutes or hours. I can play with a freind or by myself. I love the arcade dungeon play style.
+ there are no pandas and no monthly fees
Last night I played in a three player mp 6 uber game. I was way under geared. It was so crazy the regular mobs kicked my butt (while getting stacks). One of the barbs disconnected. the other(super geared Paragon level 75) died twice and all his gear broke. I was running around like a chicken with his head cut off, but got the bosses down, it was a real thrill and was sweating by the time I was done. Got my first hellfire ring, woot!!!
This isn't the Bnet forums. Whiners go that way>>>>>>>>>
Myself (and on topic); I've always loved dungeon crawler PC games, I have since the early 1980's when the monsters were nothing more than stationary RGB squares. Diablo was the epitome of everything I ever wanted a dungeon crawler to be. I feel Diablo 3 has followed suit. D3 has introduced into the series a far more diverse, intense and smart PvE combat.
I play to unwind from study, work. Me and a friend occasionally play for a bit but most of the time I'm just chilling after a day at work with a nice cold beer.
I used to play WoW but it was too time demanding in relation to being able to do what you want. I find Diablo to be a laid back sort of play style (if you choose it to be) which is just perfect for me. Plus I've loved Diablo since the first one.

"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"
I play because I love the Diablo universe.
I play because I like to develop a character from a useless level 1 gimp to a high-end killing machine.
I play for the occasional, once in a week moment of bliss when you find that jaw-dropping set item.
And I play because Diablo is a relaxing, simple game that I can play with my friends after work.

Same here.
I've been playing WoW for seven years, raiding Naxx back in vanilla, being in a hardcore guild and everything, but ever since D3 came out I haven't been able to even look at that game. D3 has everything that I, as an adult with a full-time job need. I have been in love with the series and the genre for ten years now, and Diablo 3 only deepened that bond, even though it had a pretty rough start, and is still suffering from a few problems. But all in all, the game has improved so much over a period of just a few months, and I'm very optimistic about its future.
Gonna be playing for years to come, most definitely.

"Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the small death that brings total obliteration."
I bought it originally because I was a huge D1 and D2 fan. Then after playing a bit I realized D3 was completely static instead of completely random like it was advertised to be, so I lost a lot of my enthusiasm.
Since then I played to get my stats up in the hope that most random noobs I come across would be in awe of my power. After all, that's the real #1 reason for getting powerful in the first place. Unfortunately it has almost always been more viable for me to play single player, and for the foreseeable future, that will remain so.
Now I'm just playing to reach a certain DPS and then I'll probably play less, not quit entirely. It's more a case of playing out of boredom while I wait for the far superior game, Path of Exile, to come out.
I play as a means to unwind at the end of a work day and to have fun with friends on the weekends. I love leveling up my Characters through the Paragon System and enjoy finding Legendary items.
I feel the Legendary items are a gamble and as with any gamble there comes a touch of suspense. I like seeing the spire of light, picking up the item and hoping it si something godly enough to bank some gold on.
because i enjoy playing it people who whine about the game has nothing on it, just whining for no reason ^^ everyone can see d3 is miles ahead of d2 in gameplay
THIS! Oh my god, so f***ing true. Most people are just complaining because it lacks pvp or balance (which only matters for pvp), anyways. I am really seriously concerned that Blizzard will give in to all these people demanding pvp and turn D3 into one of the million soulless games out there.

mmm ...hmmm...
Yep.
Many people set entirely unrealistic expectations for D3's launch. There was a great deal of denial ridden romanticism in the comparisons toward D2.
I LOVED D2!!! It will always hold a special place in my memory. But when I compare the PvE experience, the challenge and intensity between the two titles......It's D3 by several miles no contest.
The potential is there for D3 to become, without question, the most epic dungeon crawler ARPG ever conceived on this Earth. I believe a year from now there are going to be lots of folks eating entire flocks of crow over their harsh, shortsighted words.
Why do I play Diablo 3? Because it's Diablo Fuckin 3, that's why.
I'm glad to hear about all of the positive reasons for playing D3. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who enjoys it for what it is and not hate it for what it isn't.
LovinLoving D3 here too. As many people above said... We grow up and get tired of the time consuming mmorpgs, WoW specially. Then we get Diablo 3, pure casual fun... And more to come. PVP will be awesome, they have been tweaking it on internal testing since launch and we all have seen it on videos from BlizzCon.

What is this "player versus player" you speak of? Like you mean, to see who has the most gold or....?
I have never heard of this "player versus player" you speak of.
