Is Whimsyshire worth it?

  • #1
Some time ago, I made the quest to find the parts, and I got the portal working, in Normal difficulty.

Now, I was thinking, is worth it to upgrade it to do it in Hell or Inferno?

IMHO no, its really not worth it.. i still regret spending all that gold after launch (back when 2m was a lot) by the time i was able to farm it, blizz nerfed the drops. but if you get bored of running acts it is a good alternative. and i did find my first set piece in whimsy.. but if your low on gold save it for gear and just upgrade the staff later.

All the legendaries and the one set item I found pre-patch 1.0.5 dropped on Whimsyshire. Same for one of my friends.

Call us biased, crazy or anything (we probably are), but for us it was definitely worth it :P

Nope, it is not worth it at all. I have rolled legendary items in there but have rolled more in Act III. TO be honest, the whole whimseyshire is a slam against the purists that mocked DIablo III when it was shown a few years back. It is a funny inside joke but as far as a viable rout for farming or what not... Nope.

It's part of the game, imho it's worth the experience if you have the gold to spare.

Is it worth it for farming? I don't know, but if I were to farm act 1, I would probably add it to my route :)

Pony level is a change for a while. If you do mp <insertlevel> act 1, you can get some extra loot if you have it. It's easy then some other mob types, just farm ponies .. Not worth it. If you happen to be in the neighbourhood and have 5 stacks : yes

    not worth it. period.

The sheer emptiness of Whimsyshire saddens me.

If they would flood the map with more trash mobs then it would be more inviting.

Meh....It's a different flavor for topping off an Act 1 run. Something different to do I guess. The way I look at it, I'll likely be playing this game for many years and "buying it" is a one time thing that will likely get countless uses out of. For core fans and purists alike, we want to touch every corner of Sanctuary. So having access to Whimsyshire is considered by me as crucial to having the whole experience of the game.

That being said, I'd like to add a little editorial concerning Whimsy....

I think it was entirely arrogant, misguided and wholly disconnected for the developers to replace our beloved cows with fucking teddy bears and unicorns. I get it, I get the attempt at humor here and I have an appreciation for such things. However I think it was extremely poor taste for them to not only shit-can the Cows, but then to seemingly thumb their noses at core-fans by calling it the Staff of Herding, Having the Cow King grant access to WS and the message as you load your game saying "There is no cow level".

Must've been the same misguided fucks that reviewed the Legendary items and gave them a thumbs up at launch.

I think that the developers don't want it to be "worth it" from a farming standpoint. One of the things they said they wanted to move away from was having the game's "secret level" be the best place to get loot or experience; it's just supposed to be a fun, joke level, or simply "something else to do," so if you're still progressing through the game and are actively looking for the best spots to find the best rewards, look elsewhere.
i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame. Zhaph#1849

How can you call whimseyshire Bilzzard thumbing their nose at us? The cow level was a funny response to uran legends about wirt in D1. Whimsyshire is a funny response to purists being overly critical of D3 cause it isn't what they wanted while CONTINUING the theme from D2. To me it is just about perfect the way it is. I didn't want to see the same thing I saw in D2. I wanted something different, but that was still a funny, inside joke. Well, guess what? Yeah, they found it. That level is freaking hilarious. If your pissed that it isn't the short farming ground from D2, well then you just weren't paying attention. They have said over and over again that they DO NOT WANT short farming runs because they realize that's not fun.Expecting them to build the entire game around not letting that happen only to have a secret level where you CAN do that is just crazy.

no it's not worth it, blizzard wasted a lot of potential with the place but what else should we of expected. If they wanted up to do it for giggles they should of had something else happen.

I know that, just wanted to know if it was something like, Vault of the Assassin, where you can find elites packs everywhere.

It's worth it for one reason: decapitating teddy bears.

It's not worth it if you're strapped for cash, but when you've got money, why not? It's not an amazing farming spot or anything but it's still a fun place to clear once in a while just for kicks. It's certainly way more worth it than it was before the patch.

Most people don't like others telling them what is fun.

When I was gearing up, I ran the warrior's rest farm for a few weeks. It was fun for me. I don't care what blizzard thinks or says about fun.

on topic: It's not worth it. I haven't been back to the secret level ever since they completely destroyed chests in this game. Save your money.

Short runs are fun. But more important, not everyone can sink 5 hours in a row into this game. The thing that pisses me off about the NV system, is that playing for half an hour is pretty much a waste of time. And sometimes half an hour is all I have.
This is further worsened by the fact that you can't pause the game for long periods of time (you'll get disconnected for sure), so I can't play 30 minutes, pause, return in a couple of hours, and resume. Annoying.

Half an hour is more than enough for me to gather 5 NV and still face a Keywarden (which isn't exactly easy as some elite packs) on MP 4-6 (depending on which char I'm using). If I do it on MP 2-3 I can do 2 key runs in half an hour.

I've also dropped a set Danetta's Spite and the only thing I've sold for more than a mil after 1.0.5 (an amulet with 900 LoH) - both before getting 5 stacks. It's not a waste of time to me.

If you want to get a change of scenery, yes.
If you want to get anything else from it, no.

Once you get the ability to make Normal Whimsy, stop imo.
