What LOH should I be aiming for?

  • #1
    Hello everyone,

Until now, I was just concentrating on getting more and more DPS. I'm currently at 110 DPS and I'm a wizard. I have 40K life.

With 1.0.5, I am now getting hit harder (playing MP6-7)... I can't kill fast enought and monster are now able to hit me several times; i don't want to lower the MP as I want the extra loot/exp... I was wondering how much LOH should I get? I currently have.... 0.....

How much you have and how many hit does it take to full you HP pool?

    Thank you!

I run with 500ish. I have another 500 per second life regen from Blackthorne's gears. I used to run with approx 1500 LoH but it was definitely overkill. I'd say anything in the area of 500 so long as you put more onus on Resistance gears you'll be good. I run as a Monk btw.

Just one question: Is 500 life on hit is nerfed with some kind of hidden formule that will actually only give me like 250 LOH or if it says 500 LOH, ill litteraly have 500 life back on every hit?

Life steal is nerfed at Inferno level, LoH is not. You will see ticks that seem to show only a fraction of what your LoH should be, but that is because LoH actually returns every half second or so (based on IAS) and the ticks only represent part of what is actually being returned.

So no, there is no penalty that I'm aware of.

There seems to be some hidden formula to it.
I usually run around with 700k or so. For the uber bosses on MP6 i had to pump that up a bit to 1k in order regain life fast enough not to be squashed by siegebreaker inside one of kulles bubbles.

But im a WW barb so for a wiz i'd assume you need a little less.

LOH is effected by a hidden co-efficient depending on the ability u are using. example some skills proc the life on hit 20% of the time, and some 100% of the time. generally speaking u want around 600 LOH as a wizard. having as close too 3% life steal as possible is an awesome prospect especially because u say ur over 100k dps.... if i was you id aim for a weapon with very high dps, socket, 90%+crit damage, and life steal. and maybe arcane back on crit if ur running CM and obviously high int if u can afford it.

MP5 and above is simply not efficient farming. I run nearly 400K dps and about 46K hp and I only need to run MP3-4 to be speedy yet Paragon level smoothly. I'd rather run MP3 on Act 3 three times than do a single round of MP6 in about the same amount of time.

The only times I step into 7-10 is to run ubers with a full team (never solo).

If you really, really insist on farming on high MP levels, which again I do NOT recommend, try using Force Armor.

It depends on your spec. If you're a Archon or kiting wizard, then you don't need LoH and Life Steal is preferable. If you're a melee based CM wizard, then you probably want a fair amount of LoH but you can start with one piece (300-500) and try it out, then add another piece until you find how much you are comfortable with.

    Just one more question :)

Is the Domage converted to life % is capped at some point? It possible to have this attribute on other items than weapon?

    Thanks

Life Steal is not capped, nor is it affected by any coefficients. Whatever total damage you deal, you'll be healed for (Life Steal / 5) % of it.

For Wizards, you can only get life steal from your weapon. Barbs can get it from belt. However, the Magic Weapon - Blood Magic rune also gives 1.5% life steal (in addition to the +10% damage from MW). That life steal is basically the same as life steal found on a weapon so it suffers from the inferno reduction of 80%.

Loh is getting worse when you gain more DPS. Now its better to have ls. Even if in inferno it is reduced of 80%

If you can get a good mix of both it's not bad either, specially with a Barbarian (still makes good use of procs) or a Monk (has decent ratios on his spirit generators).

If you can't get a perfect 3% life-steal weapon, you can have say 400-500 LoH (from crappy Ring/Amulet or even weapon rolls) to compensate that and do fine.
