I need to say this. I am tired of Diablo 3, and frankly their constant patching isn't helping me. I feel like there's no point playing because by the time I get the gear they'll just nerf my desired stats. This was proven true by the recent patch notes destroying both WW barbs and Crit Mass Wizards(I play wizard).
I have a friend who says he'll buy me TL2 if I give him my account. I was wondering if anyone on Diablofans had played TL2 and could tell me a little bit about it. I loved the first Torchlight and am I'm looking for the play-all-day longevity of the earlier Diablo games. I am worried that the game may lack Diablo addictiveness because the community won't be there to push me onward.
Frankly I see this 1.05 patch rush as a way to stop people from switching to TL2 so Blizz can make its RMAH money. They did the same thing for GW and Blizzard never puts out patches right after another, though they're making it seem like they will. Just looking for feedback, please no flames. I'm just kind of fed of with Blizzard.
Go with both. TL2 have offline, good when you on the move. If you like loot, then TL2 is the game for you. The feel is more D2 then D3 and some news are introduced.
I think that if you can handle the graphics being kidz-styled with menacing blood splatter balance, I guess you would like TL2. If a demo is availible, try it! But keep both D3 and buy TL2, its cheap!
D3 is actually worth more since its polished and will get better. Expansions not included... This is my thoughts. I will buy TL2 once I am back home. I really need an offline option of a new Action RPG gaming!
Torchlight 2 is well polished and I love the art style even though it did put me off getting TL1 for a long time. Now I do not think any other art style would work for Torchlight 1 or 2.
I have only gotten as far as Act 3. The story is weaker in TL2 than D3 but I find the exploring for loot to be much better since it is more open. The Acts are laid out in a Hub system. the town is in the middle of the Act and you open one section at a time. The outdoor map is large and filled with random side quests and dungeons.
There is a Demo which is actually the full game so if you like it you can unlock the game. http://torchlight2game.com/
If you loved the first torchlight I believe you will love Torchlight 2 even more.

Just spent a couple of hours on that demo.
I definitely found the feel of the game improved from when I tried it in closed beta. Back then I was perpetually frustrated with the clicky-clicky, I kept moving when I wanted to attack or attacking when I wanted to move. Feels like they've tweaked the hitboxes or mouse sensitivity or something because it's much more pleasurable now.
The art style will very much be a matter of personal taste. I'm pretty easy-going and like anything which is well executed, so I think D3 and TL2 both look beautiful. No denying that they're very, very different in art style, though, so I'm sure some people will love one but hate the other.
The "feel" of the combat still can't compare to D3 imho. But it certainly does throw a lot of options at you very early in the game, in terms of gear, skills, socketing, spells, etc., which is nice if you're a veteran of the ARPG genre.
Well worth taking a look at the demo, although at this time I'm not inclined to buy the full game. I potentially would in the future, if I was short of games to play (right now I'm still enjoying D3 and also playing a lot of GW2).

Feel how you want about D3 I can't stop you, but know this; It was constant patching and an expansion that turned D2 from a not very in depth game into one of the best ARPGS ever made.
I'd also like to point out that the nerf to WW barbs is almost non-existent in 105. They are cutting the proc chance of tornadoes from RLTW in half, yes. But they are also cutting the cost of WW in half, and quadrupling the amount of fury gained from the relentless (?) passive. If you use LS instead of LoH the only thing the RLTW passive nerf does it reduce your fury gained, which as mentioned above won't be a problem.
Also, unless I missed something there isn't going to be any nerf to CM wizards in 105. If you are referring to the earlier nerf remember that it didn't kill the build at all - people still choose that or archon builds.
TL2 is a good thunder storm / power's out game, but it really doesn't have any staying power. If you really want to play it I say just buy it but keep your D3 account, I mean TL2 is only like 20$
Either way D3 is going to only get bigger and better. If you're bored take some time off, play TL2 like you want, give it some time =D

They're cutting the armor bonus from energy armor in half. Crit mass is actually extremely armor/resist dependent.

Interesting assumption, the "staying power" of a game that is all of 3 days old, mod tools still forthcoming, is clear to you huh? I agree that you should hold onto the D3 account as I am one of the oddballs that think the two games easily coexist. For what its worth I'm quite surprised by TL2, I didn't much care for the first one but this time around I seem to be having a good deal of fun with it. The combat of D3 is still the best around but as a whole TL2 thus far has been winning me over...its far from perfect but well worth the asking price. One word of caution though, the story is laughably bad somehow even worse than D3's which is something of an accomplishment
If you feel the recent balance fixes for first cm wizard and now ww barb are destroying the specs. My advice to you, is to give your account to your hopefully more grown up friend, and move over to TL2 together with rest of the kids, or adults with a mentality screaming of "look at me im 12!".

And? Who cares??? you have been told a gazillion times that even with the armor / res aka defensive changes, you will take LESS dmg than you do on live now. Your such a bunch of babies, really.. Go over to TL2, im sure they are happy to recieve you.
May the heroes rise from the pit of despair and the bards sing of the day of death renewed to everlasting immortality....awaiting your return to the lands of Sanctuary may peace be with you on this day...your day of birth.
oh and also if u click my infractions button it will show nothing. Can a mod fix this plz

I got quickly bored of TL2 aswell, the game got no feeling, the action is not there, its like afk fightning. Its an ameteurish game. There is is a reason it costs 20$.
I love TL2 a whole lot more than D3. I was bored with D3 in the beginning but stayed for quite some time to see if I would get fun for me like D1 and D2. That spark never happened. 1.04 did not cause a spark for me eventhough it is improved many aspects.
Will Torchlight 2 be for everybody no. But I am having fun bashing in monster heads with loot as a bonus.

Haven't read through every reply but seriously? Torchlight 2 is going to have an impact on the ARPG world for some time. Player development? Awesome. Endless customization possibilities, considering you actually choose your characters stats. Online and Offline play. Much more rewarding loot experience. Sure not everything is a winner, but it is nice to see so many colors drop. Pet system is still badass. 6 players to a game, instead of 4. You can actually browse open games and pick which one you want to play in rather than a stupid matchmaking system (much like D2).
I'm not D3 bashing so don't get me wrong. I only got about 110 hours out of it before I got bored, and I still haven't been able to return. That said, 110 hours for a game these days is pretty damn good. And I still have pretty high hopes that it will meet my expectations someday. I think what I missed most about D2 was the freedom. Waypoints between acts. An open lobby where you can pick whatever game you want. I much prefer that over a matchmaking system. Oh... And no AH.
I got my character--ember mage--to character 26. My feelings and observations are mixed but overall positive:
+ The game has that "I just explore that last corner of the map" urge built into it. I want to wander around the map just exploring, fighting and finding riches.
*Game actually rewards you for time spent exploring, instead of finding the most efficient path.
+ Some kind of hard to identify "old school" feeling to the game
*It is purposefully designed to feel that way
+ Lots of loot options from get-go
*No AH so you need to look at things that drop for a longer period of time
+ Lots of side quests and optional events, e.g. phase beast.
*Phase beasts are awesome, random minidungeon events
+ Locked golden chests !!!
*Bit of a pain, but refer to enjoying the exploring the map to find the key
- Controls are way too complex to start with. The game does not try very hard to introduce you slowly to the mechanics.
*Left click, right click, numbers 1-10, however yes there isn't really a tutorial, only tips, would be nice to have some form of tutorial area
- Very little hits/tips for more complex aspects of the game
*Exploration.....
- Combat system is clunky, targeting is weird, you sometimes have a feeling you do not have your character fully under control
*I agree with this, the combat is vastly improved over TL1, but still feels slow compared to D3
- Only 2 quick cast skills feel repetitive, rest of the skills is a lot harder to access
*Assign skills/spells to your skill bar (1-10)
- Skill progression system is again "strange". It is not clear whether I should spend all available points or save the more later. It was not clear whether you can use earlier skill points for skills unlocked later.
*Exploration again, try things out, see what works for you. If you want to respec, there is already a mod for that.
I love both games, and will continue playing both, I have over 300 hours in D3, have currently ~30 in TL2.
They are different and both have their ups and downs, once the Mystic is released being able to enchant items will be good.
I have only invested a couple hours into TL2, and it's still "ok." I don't regret buying it, but I don't get any huge amounts of excitement out of it to keep driving forward. It might because my build isn't optimum, but the skills I have on my zerker are bland.
In the end, I'm sticking with D3 ofc and LoL/Dota2 when I need to pvp.
