I tried to sell the same exact Superior Hellion Crossbow that someone had posted for 20,000,000,000... Priced mine at only 20,000,000 and it still didn't sell! Although it is of normal quality, I was kind of hoping I could make a decent amount of gold off of it.
A bunch of other people who have no idea what they're doing agreeing with you does not fact make.
But hey, ignore the empirical evidence that is the AH (see the post above mine for proof about people who have no idea what they're doing as far as pricing goes) and people still making large profits by reading the economy, the AH, and knowing what they're doing.
You could probably accomplish the same thing if you spent more time analyzing why things aren't working instead of instantly bitching about them.
Who's bitching, aside from you?
Your expert analysis of economics leaves out one thing - the size of the demand pool. Your argument is predicated on the assumption as fact that the playerbase hasn't diminished. That's why it fails.
You assume the player base has diminished with NO evidence of this being factual in any way, shape, or form. Hell, I have a bunch of friends that just started playing D3 after getting back from deployment, that has to mean that the D3 playerbase has increased drastically right? No. So right there you have already lost.
Lets look at the "pool size". Hey kid, guess what, item prices are going to steadily decline. This has NOTHING to do with RMAH at all. What this has to do with is more and more people getting to the point where they can farm the good items, then listing the good items for cheaper and cheaper so they will sell before the other good items. Prices drop as supply increases, econ 101. Again, your entire argument is ignorant and based off of your obvious disdain for D3 and the existence of the RMAH. Unfortunately you have no idea at all how a free market economy works so you just continually post your stupid drivel making you look more and more ignorant. Stop while you are behind, admit you don't know what you're talking about (obvious fact), and move on.
For arguments sake, lets assume you know what a MP3 player is. Were you even conceived before those came out on the market? Probably not. But lets just say for example that you were. The first few MP3 players on the market could hold maybe a few CDs worth of music and that's all, they cost upwards of 80+ dollars. Guess what, the prices dropped as more and more "better" MP3 players came out on the market priced about the same. Same shit is happening in D3, as more and more better items appear prices steadily decline. You can see these trends on a daily basis in the market place if you open your eyes. You're obviously a child so lets try this example. How much was an xbox 360 when it was first released? How much is it now? Okay thanks bye.

I'll wait on your legitimate numbers proving the player base has fallen by a significant degree.
Actually, since your argument is that the playerbase has not diminished, and that instead, I am mispricing my items - the onus is on YOU to prove playerbase numbers.
Another words you have no idea what you're talking about and you wanna pass the buck off to someone else. GG.
Edit: Also if you see the bolded section, you're the one that brought up the size of the player pool, not him.
Edit again: And you are obviously mispricing your items if they are not selling. Econ101, the buyers dictate pricing, not the sellers.
Hopefully 1.04 will bring people back. I cant sell a damn thing and its halfway decent stuff. Got a ring for sale right now with the following stats:
100 dex
79 vit
26% crit damage
115 life per second
Asking only 225k and it hasnt sold.
from now on for all my auctions im just gonna set a buyout at what a similar item is no matter how high then set a bid at what I would pay for it. Then I will let the market decide what its actually worth and people can bid on it.
I just looked on AH for rings with those stats minus the useless life regen. There are tons on the AH selling for 25-75k and ones much much much better selling for the 225k you want. Properly price your ring and it will sell. It is not hard to look up similar items on the AH before sellign yours, or just list it up for bids and get what you get. Either way is better than pulling a price out of thin air with no research.
Wait what? I just typed in the 3 boxes 100 dex, 79 vit, and 26 crit damage and the cheapest ring it returned was 1.1 million and that was after I cut it back it 95 dex 75 vit and 25 crit. so its actually worse than my ring. At my stats the closest ring was 1.8 million.
You're still not searching right. I just did a search for dex, vit and crit damage and sorted by price. This isn't rocket science. The second result is going for 5k and has a socket, 48 dex, 55 vit and 25 crit dmg. With a 2k 34 dex emerald in there, it's a grand total of 18 dex, 24 vit and 1 crit damage off of your ring. Pray tell, who in their right mind is going to pay you 218k more gold for 18 dex, 24 vitality and 1% extra crit damage?
Won't do a better job than this, but I can say that 48 + 38 equals 86, and that the downgrade is only 14 vit, not 18. (this DOES strengthen the point of this post though, so please don't go loose on me, thanks)
Forgot I always use level 60 for my search why it probably returned such high results lol because the ring was level 60 i only searched for other level 60 rings. Also are you using a different region or something even using that exact ring you have picked I typed in its stats: 48 dex, 55 vit, and 25 crit damage and got this list:
You assume the player base has diminished with NO evidence of this being factual in any way, shape, or form.
Please quote me doing this =)
I did, can you not read?
You implied that his argument made an assumption on player base thus bringing up player base. You also assumed his argument was only valid had the player base not declined thus saying you think the player base has declined. So where is your proof of the player base declining smart guy?

If he posted it for 20billion gold he made a mistake or he is using the AH as additional bank space. Do not price your items based off the highest priced comparable items, price them based off the lowest.

Re-read my post, I said a 2k 34 dex emerald, as in a flawless square, which is 34 not 38 dex. Also, I was comparing the 55 vit in that pic to the 79 vit he quoted, which is a 24 difference, like I said

Perhaps you mistook me for another poster. In the OP I quite clearly ask if the number of players has gone down - I never said it.
When you're so desperate to argue that you make random assumptions, it suggests that perhaps you're a bit bored with the crappy game we're discussing =)

Right there you made the assumption that his argument had anything to do with player base. Then you assumed further that that the player base has been diminishing by saying his argument is predicated on the player base not diminishing and that his argument fails, thus implying the player base has indeed dropped.
You're so messed up in the head you can't even remember what you yourself typed less then 6 hours ago. Stop trolling, just leave.
Edit: And no, I am not bored with the game, just more entertained by your constant and ever increasing stupidity.
Speaking from the hardcore side, it does seem like it's dead, even with the lack of a RMAH. I have tons of gold I am TRYING to spend on upgrades, but there just isn't anything worth buying. Hopefully 1.04 and the supposed legendary buffs will get people playing this game again, but as of now, at least from a hardcore point of view, i feel like one of the 5 people left playing.
That ring is not priced right. Exactly what was mentioned before. Anyone looking for a starter dps ring for act 1 inferno isn't likely going to spend 200k on one piece, and anyone looking for an upgrade over their currently good ring is going to look for better than that. And what I mean by better is crit chance to go along with the crit damage. There are rings with less dex, sure, but crit chance to go along with the crit damage at less than 225k. Think about it, anyone who knows how much dps crit dmg and crit chance can add will look for both on a piece that can have both, and between the two they would rather have crit chance instead of crit dmg because they can just socket the crit dmg on their weapon.
At current prices I'd bet you'd have to list it less than 100k to expect it to sell quickly, and even then I'm not so sure.
edit: and to give you a very specific anecdote, I have a better ring on my disused (fane) demon hunter that I geared up in the first week of release and havent really touched since the nether tentacles nerf, and i paid 90k for his ring. Price your items right and they will sell.
You must be on Euro servers. I actually had the ring on AH as a bid not a buyout been drinking must have misread it. Its up to 550k now with 6 hours to go. After seeing the prices that one guy posted in a pic your economy is totally screwed lol. How do you even make gold at those prices?
People quitting would slow down the turnover rate slightly (from it taking longer to find a buyer), but that's it. It wouldn't have a big price effect.
A ton of bots being banned, however, *would* have a huge effect on item prices, particularly on the high end - and a bunch of bots were banned recently. Abundant gold purchased from botters had massively inflated the gold auction house, and in their absence it is trying to deflate.
Things are still selling just fine, but prices are roughly half of what they were two weeks ago. A lot of items are bouncing because people don't want to take a loss on their items and are listing them at old prices; once they get sick of staring at them and lower their prices to the current levels, they'll move easily and everyone can get back to business as usual.
I had a pretty good week on the auction house. Sold some stuff , paid a debt that i had to my friend who sold a sweet blackthorn and bought some upgrades to my barb... Never had that luck before.
It's easy, just take whatever the 3 most important stats are on the item, round down, search, organize by price to see the lowest, and price the same or undercut depending on what is listed compared to your item. Either yours will be better than what is listed at the same price, or cheaper. Either way it sells. The problem seems to be the large influx of items with decent rolls has made the prices plummet. It's interesting how more people can farm Inferno now, and the amount of decently rolled items has increased dramatically, yet the best gear and legendaries are still astronomical. You would think with more people farming, there would be more of these awesome rolled items, but it has not worked out that way. Also, there is definitely less demand. All you have to do is ask yourself, "How many of my friends/people I know played D3 at or near launch? Has word spread that D3 is great and more people are joining in the fun, or are less of my friends still playing?" I think we know the answer

It's not even worth responding anymore. He's so busy burying himself with outlandish claims and baseless reality that anyone with a pulse can see he's a professional window-licker.
I think a lot of people that are complaining about the auction house are seriously underestimating how self-correcting it really is. Any data that you use for pricing that is over 3-4 days old is outdated and no longer valid. I'll have to echo the sentiments on some of the other posters in that medium tier items are decreasing in value every day. But the auction house is still alive and well.
Case in point: 2 weekends ago I spent all of my gold, save for 1.5 million. By last weekend, I was back up to 11 million through playing the auction house. Last weekend, I spent all of my gold and went into the negatives by taking a 3 million loan from a friend. This weekend, I am back up to 22 million. OP is just not pricing items correctly.

selling shit for millions will never work.
im having trouble selling a helm i bought 2 weeks ago for 3m. cant even sell it for 700k now... thats how it is. gold value have droped.
it will be better when PvP and "new endgame" is in full swing
