it is just pathetic to see how deep this company has fallen.
ArenaNet is the last hope for me, otherwise i am done with games in this life.
Really?
So you must think that Blizzard North was HORRIBLE then eh? (in case you were unaware of the MASSIVE amount of dupes in D2)
At least with D3, they can update the game to eliminate this if it turns out to be true.
D2 wasn't built with annoying always online that was supposed to keep this shit from happening. SO now we get dupes AND DCs AND Lag. GG blizz on pumping out an unfinished product and convincing your followers to eat it up with a spoon.
Not the brightest cookie in the jar are you?
You do realize that there is literally no way to outright prevent hacking right? In any software, ever.
Online only means they can identify and actually do something about it when it happens.
Get those knuckles off the ground there bud.
Software 101 stuff here man, maybe you should sell that PC? Obviously you dont quite understand whats going on.
So, you're right, though online-always makes it easier for them to stop various categories of attacks. However, as for your last line; ridiculous. If everyone who owned a computer needed to understand its the implementation details, even at only a high level, very few people would be using computers, period. Don't be an elitist A-hole, I would bet there are many people (perhaps even me...) who know more about this stuff than you do, but that doesn't mean we should rub it in your face.
Until it actually becomes a real issue, I don't care that much.
Look at it from both perspectives:
1. If somebody is attempting make people think he can dupe but is only faking it, it doesn't matter to me.
2. If he CAN actually dupe and he's only duping a mediocre bow (or it only works on this bow for some reason), it still doesn't matter to me because I am not interested in that bow.
I have duped an item unintentionally in World of Warcraft once - I finished a quest within 5 seconds of a server restart. When the servers came up, I had the gold from the quest and the item reward from the quest, but I also still had the quest in my log and could turn it in a second time. I've heard other people have heard similar experiences with the way Blizzard restarts their servers. This could be one possible explanation, and if it is - then it is rare enough that it shouldn't matter.

Actually, he's(?) just flat-out wrong.
There are ways to completely prevent hacking. They're just not cost-effective in most cases, and impractical in most others.
... and the implication that just because software has some vulnerabilities means that it's somehow vulnerable to any conceivable exploit is... well... disingenuous.

You mean just disconnect the entire system from the internet? Because that's the only way to completely, 100%, prevent "hacking" of any kind.
There was also no implication that it was vulnerable to any conceivable exploit - he merely said there isn't a piece of software invulnerable to all forms of hacking, and he's correct in that statement.
The point, anyway: Diablo 2 offline play was a huge reason, if not the reason that online play was filled with so many duped, hacked, or otherwise illegitimate items. Forcing online only play makes amending those problems much, much easier. You can bet, if it got back to that point, the same people crying about no offline play would be bitching about that, too (or better yet, just cry that they're sticking to offline play and everyone who plays online can suck it, as though their choice is somehow superior).
Look we all know the exact same item can drop multiple times.
I myself have had it happen with blues, I will get the exact same belt or chest piece, with the exact same stats within one or two minutes. Personally I have not seen this drop off the same pack, but thanks to RNG it is totally possible, and no it is not a GLITCH <--- stop using that word it is meaningless. RNG is RNG, it means you could get 2 * 1300 dps xbows with socket, crit, dex and 899 LOH off the same champ pack, but the odds are astronomical, it's like winning the lottery, though it can still happen. That is not a glitch, that is just the game and how it can theoretically play out.
Secondly, anything can be photo shopped, and if anyone had bothered to even read this thread before posting you would have watched the video on twitch of the guy logging into his AH and clicking through the bows mid stream, 2 hrs into his video in fact. It requires some serious processing power and smarts to fake video, so no, you have zero excuse to claim 'I'll believe it when I see it', the proof of multiple items is right there.
Thirdly, yes it could potentially be a vendor item, yet no one has been able to repeat it, or provide proof in video or even a screenshot of this happening (not even a fake one)..
Fourth, you have multiple sources unrelated to the duper claiming to have contacted blizz about item duping, these people refuse to publish how, and have all claimed to have been completely and utterly ignored. If I knew a way to dupe and I contacted blizzard about it and happened to only be ignored, 'because I love this game' I to would turn up the heat by selling off duped items in a public way and trying to raze hell about it before it destroyed the economy, if it truly is duping this guy is just the whistle blower, cept instead of going somewhere where the news gets buried he went public with it. This negates the retarded argument of 'why isn't this guy profiting from his technique', well not everyone is a slimy little worm ready to exploit his way to what, 250$ a week in RMAH dollars, he/she may just be a half decent human being trying to correct a problem that he feels has been ignored for far too long.
I saw those bows myself last night, but only 3 of them were on the AH... try to search for it, i think crit dmg 60 and atk speed 11 and look for it on the highest buyout... im not sure if it's still there.
I've posted an auction before, and it posted my item 4 times (due to Comcast being terrible). I didn't dupe, but the 3 "extra" auctions could not be bid on/bought out, it was just an AH bug.
Why the jump to "OMG DUPES ARE REAL!" after this terrible item is posted several times with the same bid/b.o and time? Now, if they bids/buyouts were different, the times were off, etc. we would have PROOF that it's a dupe.
You should had readed the whole topic then..
First, a lot of players tried it, no one got a 60+ ilvl weapon OR the same rare item multiple times...
The guy had 8, for that happen, he would had to find the merchant with the same bow 8 times (merchant doesn't sell ilvl 63 weapons)
So there is no real proof that he got the items from the merchant, but also no real proofs that he can dupe items.

Absence of proof is not proof of absence.
It is quite possible that this vendor does happen to have an astronomically tiny chance to sell that item. It is also possible that the person who found it was somehow able to get multiple copies of it in the same game. Perhaps it was a group of friends, and somehow they were able to exit and re-enter the game and continuously re-buy the same item each time. Perhaps the item was available to each person in the game once, and they cycled people through, each one in turn buying the bow.
Or, perhaps, these people trying it could have only been trying it for a very short amount of time, while this person who posted all the bow could have been doing it for WEEKS on end with countless runs each day, possibly even on multiple accounts, possibly botted.
Or, in all likelihood, it was caused by a bug, maybe a group of people got multiple elite packs together (as many as possible) and were able to kill them all at once and the multiple same-item bug may have been multiplied. Or maybe it was found on a vendor, but somehow the person was allowed to buy it many times. Or someone posted the bow on the AH, and there was a bug with the AH and multiple postings of the bow went up.
Or someone figured out how to dupe, how the hell should I know?
I'm waiting for an official answer from Blizzard before I go into hysterics over something that may or may not be duping. I can assume that if there actually was some duping going on, Blizzard is going to be all over it, find out how it's done, and deal with it, and we'll get some sort of announcement from them soon enough. If you're really that concerned about it, don't use the AH until Blizz confirms or denies that it was in fact duping.

Why would you stop going to the AH? They're not going to delete duped items you have bought from the AH. And if they actually are crazy enough to do that (which I doubt), they'll give you your gold/€ back.

That's the only picture of an ilvl63 being sold on a merchant, and it's probably photoshoped (the guy has a bad bow but 3 Billion Gold?!?)
Hard to believe..

It's very wise what Rickarus says actually. Remember: both the GAH and the RMAH are at own personal risk, if anything you bought doesn't show up, or should you sell anything and the gold/$$ should never arrive, you're on your own. Customer service is currently UNABLE (AUTOBOT2000: HERRO CANNITAKE ORDER PREASE?! NO SRYYYY I CANNOT HELP U OK? PRS FLL IN FORM SO I CAN HAS RAISE KK? HAVE NICE DAY NOW) to reimburse lost items/gold/currency.
What they can do however, is roll your account back, but only if you've been compromised beforehand. Cute isn't it?
So, i pray to god they delete all duped items, if they are in fact duped. Any company who feels itself so high and mighty that they think they could ever implement a GAH and a RMAH without any form of customer service safety net implemented deserves to burn it's ass royally. In my opinion :>.
I've never had that happen to me, not getting my gold/items that I've sold/bought. So I wouldn't know. That sure sounds like Blizzard though, blaming everything on the customer and after that asking to fill in a form ;p
That guy has 3 billion gold. How much do I trust that photo wasn't photoshopped?
Granted, I don't have 3 billion gold either. But it isn't that hard to get. 4-5 lucky rolls on items and you're good to go.
He should probably have a weapon worth more than 10mil, then. My bullshit meter is in the red.
-edit- 4-5 items for 3 billion gold? 500 million per item? NP, NP. Those drop all the time.
I wasn't talking about that guy in particular, just about the fact that 3 billion isn't the end of the world.
Can you quote me where I said that they drop all the time? Exactly. You can't. Some weapons are even worth more than 500m, they're of course even rarer, but it could happen to anyone, no matter how dumb they are.

I'm sitting on a Barb neck that's easily worth 500 million myself. My jaw hit the floor when I IDd it, of course. Haven't decided if I'm going to twink with it or sell it.

My point stands: the photo is a fake.
I cannot quote it, because it isn't there. And even if I could quote that, you're one of those people who I talked about in my previous past, the last part of the last sentence. There's a good chance the photo is fake, you believe it is fake for the complete wrong reason though. Yes, he has 3 billion in that photo, yes he has a weapon worth 8-20m, that doesn't make it fake. I have weapons worth 2m as well, while having 40m in my stash. Does that make my life one big photoshop?
