By now we're pretty certain Blizz is going to change the current gear swapping mechanic, there's not much point discussing whether it will happen or not. Also, there's plenty of topics out there discussing which is the lesser evil, so let's not discuss the options here (pl0x?! ;))
My doubt is: should GF/MF roll back to affecting jars/barrels/corpses/chests once the changes are made? As far as I'm aware, someone going for a MF/GF focused build should be allowed to benefit from all in-game sources of loot/gold.
For the sake of this pool, to focus the discussion, pretend that they implemented one of the "timed" solutions (where your MF resets for a given amount of time, or slowly increases). Options 1 and 5 would probably be a No all the time.
Well, we have a couple votes so far, but no comments/thoughts Is it that much obvious that MF/GF should begin affecting non-monsters that nobody is going to argue against?
Also, what to do with the areas that have nearby checkpoints and tons of jars/barrels (like Leoric's crypt)? Nerf just those areas to hurt botters? Let MF/GF affect those areas because legit players run them?
They should not change this back because it promotes non combat farming which breaks the economy and eases botting.
agree how maby bots farmed leoric urns ( i saw a dude with 41mil on hes profile )
Don't forget they can easily fix that. I think they did in one of the hotfixes, literally just nerfed that area with jars.
Honestly, I agree with MF/GF affecting jars/barrels/corpses/chests. What they could do is change it so only Magic Find affects these destructibles, and not GF, that should prevent jar farming.
I would really love to see MF/GF affect the chests/jars/bodies etc again, at the moment I feel it's not worth the effort to go through and break them all open when it costs me durability (melee ftl) and hardly covers the costs.

"Never argue with an idiot; they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."
The whole reason they took away MF being calculated into drops from destructibles was because bots were making wayyyy too much gold just stacking MF and running around hitting jars.
MF should only affect drops off of stuff you actually have to kill.

Same here ever since they changed that I don't even bother with destructibles anymore. NV made it worth it before, but right now I'd rather be killing trash mobs (a bit faster sometimes) than breaking those.

wtf, do you like die ten times over while destroying jars? it barely costs durability and still drops a decent amount of gold...
on topic: mf should affect drop chance by jars and other stuff, maybe reduce the overall drop chance of items from jars in general, but if you carry a lot of mf you should profit from it.
especially because blizz argument was that switching in mf gear for breaking jars felt akward. agreed, but if they fix this issue they can easily revert the former change
Using Whimsyshire as an example, it's piss-poor gameplay to encourage people to fight and kill all the monsters and then change their gear and loot all the chests. Until they can figure it out the incentive should be just to hit the chests and such as you pass them, not to juggle gear. This is an ACTION RPG and all gear-swapping does is take the action out. There's no "action" in running around Whimsyshire for 10 minutes hitting all the clouds you purposefully didn't hit when you passed by them the first time. That's tedious. We deserve better gameplay than that. Unfortunately, I have no suggestions for how to actually improve it such that MF is relevant on chests and such, but that you are still hitting them as you pass by them, not swapping gear after you've cleared the area.
I hated waiting for 5 NV to hit a resplendant chest. I understood the rewards, but it just didn't seem like the kind of action an adventurer would take.
"Hey, guys there's a chest over there, it could have riches upon riches in it!"
"No, we have to kill more of the elite monsters first so that we'll get better riches."
"Huh?"
EDIT
To be clear, if they can somehow work it such that we would open chests/breakables as we encountered them, instead of clearing an area, swapping gear, opening everything, then going back to our original gear and moving on... I'd be quite on board. I think that MF should effect chests and breakables, but I don't think it should create a need to carry a second gearset and swap to get better items.

I think they could tweak Whimsyshire specifically to have the clouds/chests there not affected by MF/GF (or plain nerf it like they did with the Royal Crypts). Wouldn't make Whimsyshire not worth it, because the monsters there have no special abilities of their own (just from the affixes), they're pretty bland.

Did you and your friends seriously did that? I mean, it might seem rewarding at first, but the amount of time wasted walking around would be really detrimental to your overall run time. I think it's actually faster to just open it and search for extra elites afterwards (with the extra time), tbh.

Agreed. I'm not sure how they can do this, though. I still think letting MF/GF affect them is the lesser of 2 evils (specially since people will realize how much of a waste of time it is to equip gear, wait for 5 min timer to kick in and go back breaking doodads).
