D3 is boring if you are unlucky thats the point. In two weeks of power helping a friend at act 1 farming he did more gold than me since 15 May. Luck/Gamble = Diablo 3, you are not rewarded for your perseverance.
Of course you are. Even bad luck gets a few gems on occasion if you spend the time. You have probably vendered tons of gear you could have sold on AH in hopes of getting something better. That item you can vendor for 2k you may be able to sell on AH for 20k. Its totally worth trying if you aren't using all 10 available auctions.
I'd rather spend $40 instead of playing 200 hours in like 3 or 4 hour increments trying to find something good, trying is the keyword in that sentence.
So lame. How about if they just have a button that says "YOU WIN"? Push it and you win........
The "buy now" or something similar button is basically the "you win" button you're talking about. The option for real money should be completely removed. This way people will be forced to either find a lot of gold, or good items.
Or they will be "forced" to go to a 3rd party website, just like they were in D2.........
Im just saying, cash for items will happen, no matter what, there is no stopping it. If the player base didn't turn the Diablo items market in to a multi million dollar industry, the RMAH would not exist.

I too understand the necessary evil of the RMAH...however I have to wonder to what extent the practice is proliferated when it is sanctioned?

You do realize that a big chunk of people responsible for Diablo 2, are working on Path of Exile, right?
That was also made by Blizzard North exes and is proof that even the vaunted minds that brought us D2 can make a flop of a game. This stigma that the Blizzard North team can only crank out the most amazing games ever made is a damned myth. Bill Roper looked like a horse's ass over Hellgate: London. That game had amazing potential and because of repeated blunders (both business and technological) it ended up crashing and burning pretty quickly.
d3 doesn't have to be completely luck. you can have guaranteed results.
build a gold find set so that you break 300, 350 gf with 5 stacks. hell, maybe even 400 if you dig for gear hard enough.
guess what? you'll be pretty damn wealthy after some farming and you can buy whatever you want unless you're eyeing the 50 billion gold weapon some random idiot puts up. be smart in your ah browsing and you'll have no trouble at all.
meanwhile you may still get lucky with drops on top of the certain gold. the bonus is that it makes killing normal monsters more lucrative. clear entire maps without caring about elite packs. you'll make a lot of gold.

I've played that, and liked it also. Thanks for reminding me about it.
It was a great idea. I actually really liked it, but their business model was total shit, their launch was near disastrous, and there were a *lot* of bugs.
It was a very good example of something that had soooo much potential, but was marred by bad management and being too "indie" if you get what I'm saying. You've got to spend money to make money, and Hellgate: London felt like Flagship Studios tried to skip the "spend money" part and move straight to the "make money" part.
