Which Blacksmith Plan should I buy to turn a profit?

  • #1
Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but I was hoping people could give me advice on which blacksmith plan to purchase. I have a little over 20mil at the moment with another 40ish on the way, so I believe I can afford most, if not all, blacksmith plans. I'm trying to buy one for the obvious goal of turning a profit by crafting, but I really have no idea which plan to buy. I play a monk as my main, so ideally this plan would be able to be used by my character. Some people have told me to try Black Bone Arrows or Sage's Wisdom, but the AH seems flooded with these items and I feel like they'll be very hard to move. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is there any particular reason for your suggestion? Also I fell prey to your sig.......

gloves have best dmg stats (IAS, crit, crit dmg) and unlike almost all other slots there's almost no good legendary gloves atm

i personally have the one with 5 properties and with it i earned good 10mil although i havent been lucky lately with rolls, only problem is; buying the recipe and then investing into mats and stuff can be very risky

    What he said again ^
.. happened to a friend of mine. He had 10 mil in his account, invested all of it into glove crafting, got only 2 that were "decent", sold one for 1 mil and the other for 2.5 mil, spent all of it into crafting again and didn't get anything.

Now he's back to square 1 farming... kinda sad..

I didn't know crafting was so risky. Maybe I'll just buy better gear so i can start farming act3. There's no risk involved there, I just thought I would be able to make a steady stream of income through crafting. I have 1000 exquisite essences just sitting in my stash.

Gloves are the best. They have the best affixes as stated before.
The only real question is will you take a 6 or 5 prop ones.

If you have a LOT of gold, and I mean a LOT, like 20 mil or more and can make a 1-2 milion per day take the 6 prop ones.
Otherwise just take the the five prop ones. They have only one property less but you would only need like 3-4 good ones to make a profit. Although you cant get a absolute perfect like this. But the chances on that are slim at best. The main reason you should take 5 prop ones is the price of the crafting they cost about the half the price of a 6 prop ones, that would actualy mean that you need to make 2 times the money with those than with the 5 prop ones, and a chances you will get better items with 6 prop's are not 2 times better. In fact its much much less. I'm sure someone here can calculate this.

I personaly use 5 prop gloves. I'm in plus a few millions (that includes the price of the plan, the material and the crafting price) and also around 50 Euro. My strategy is this: i make around 2 milions per day in AH, I use one million or so to make 5-10 gloves depending on the crafting material price. Usually I loose money a few days in a row, but then I find a 5-6 million item or something like that. You would have to know the prices for all classes in order to stay in plus. Cause if you don't sell the 50k-100k items you will loose the gold.

FYI: You can't expect to make profit from crafting 10-20 items, you will have to invest far more in this!

I have the materials to craft 35 of the 6 prop gloves atm just because I haven't been placing my salvage materials on AH; instead they go right to my stash. My plan was to just continue salvaging all the lvl 60 gear I find that can't sell and to use this for crafting. I wasn't planning on buying materials other than the ones I find each day. I'd probably be able to craft 1-4 gloves per day based on how much I play. Once I sell some of the stuff I currently have I expect to be at 50+ million (currently at 20mil). After purchasing the pattern I'd probably be somewhere around 15mil. I'd prefer to buy the 6 prop gloves because I believe a lot of people will be doing what you suggest, purchasing the 5 prop. This should get me a leg up on the competition and help me move my good rolls faster. Do you guys disagree or agree w/ any of this?

A couple of weeks ago you may of made a lot of gold/money crafting. Not so much lately from what I've read on the D3 official forums.

The way the D3 economy is tanking, meaning going downhill fast, I wouldn't buy anything till the market settles out. You'll save yourself a ton of gold/money and you may realize the demand for crafted items has significantly dropped.

I would have to agree with this statement. The bus for crafting seems to have come and gone for those of us who didn't already cash in a few weeks ago. If you take a look on the auction house you will notice the sheer ammount of quality gloves for dirt cheap prices simply due to the fact that there are so many people crafting these days. Considering the initial investment you would have to make into buying the pattern/mats you would have to get extremely lucky with the item rolls to make any significant profit with the market in it's current state.

what about other patterns? Maybe a set item or a legendary? If none of these are useful I just might buy the exalted grand golden talon for my monk in order to EVENTUALLY get a high dps wep w/ loh/critdamage/socket.

the only thing that works at the moment is to get the plans and craft for other people (thier mats which includes the gold cost to craft) + a fee. could be hard to achieve, you might need some time but I've seen plenty of people doing it (on twitch) and have over 700 million gold
specific plans would be: +6 gloves as stated before, sevens sins, sage's gloves and i'm not sure if it's any good but black bone arrows could work aswell.

its just il62.. it has to be near perfect to yield any "high" dps (800-900+) + other stats need to be awesome..

ill find that weapon two times before you craft it once... asuming my current farm rate of 1 rare per minute in act 1

This is correct but, as you stated, these people are currently making their gold off of their popularity/exposure not off of crafting and selling on the AH.

I am not sure of any legendary patterns that are worth anything right now, but you can count on those markets getting oversaturated in days/weeks if their is any money to be made. The main problem is most legendarys are currently inferior to rares and even if they are good they are only viable for a few of the classes per legendary type. The beauty of gloves is that you could roll something sellable to any class.

so then i guess i have to decide if i can make more than 30million in about 35-40 6prop glove crafts. And if I'll make more money using salvage materials to craft the 6prop gloves than I would selling the raw salvage materials. I really don't know how to calculate this though as rolls are random >.

I just got an exalted grand runic quiver pattern. Think it's worth it to train it and use all my salvage materials to make it or does black bone arrows take up too much of the market?
