I did ending up posting on their blue request and I do not think that gear swapping is fun, I do it, but it's not fun.
When I do my runs I normally pick easier content ACT 1 + 2 and steam roll it with 300 mf and decent dps.
When I compare the rate I kill things there to the rate I kill things in pony land or act 3+4 its the same amount of 63 gear without the deaths. I figure in one to two months or if I blow all the gold I've been saving to RMAH I could farm act 3+4 but it requires thought.
Act 1 + 2 do not require thought, it's a mindless farm and great for long sessions of grinding.
If they are going to do gear swapping I really hope they just let you have a mf/gf set and let you get the mf/gf of the 2ndary set when you are at a 5 stack of neph valor.
All the joys of gear swapping without the hassle.
You would still need a high mf and stat set for farming gobos.
I'm amazed the game went live with such an obvious and glaring exploit. It seems like Blizzard lowers the bar on a daily basis these days.
I agree with you. What disappoints me is from reading the blue post about this is that the development team admitted that this was gaming the system but decided to leave it in as they thought it was fun.
I agree with op, it is really really lame.
MF should be a hard decision, not a cheap vendor gear that you put on right before the monster is about to die.
+1 for the vendor comment.
MF swapping is bad gamedesign, Anyone who does not see it... well let's just leave it at no comment.
But it worked quite well in D2 for over 8 years... gtfo
Memory a bit foggy?
Lets see if I can help, it was called "Weapon Swap".
Meaning, your WEAPONS/SHIELD, not YOUR ENTIRE GEARSET.
Super hard to tell the difference, I know.
this. too much whining about gear swap that NEVER EXISTED. and off hands would only have the extra MF to gain from this since weapons dont have any mf, so if you really want that extra 10-15% mf then that would be the ONLY benefit from d2's gear swap. we dont have runewords anymore which was a huge reason to swap gear for their "extra class skills" that you could benefit from.
Magic find should be a reward to a piece of gear, not a decision on just how bad you can make your character and still kill stuff. I think blizzard should make magic find and gold find both a potential stat on ANY item and should not apply toward normal stats. For example, lets say you roll a rare, you could get any of the normal stats and attributes PLUS a possible gold and/or magic find, however the magic/gold find would not pull from the "pool" of attributes on your item roll they would be a separate roll and have their own "pool" of possible attributes with zero being a real and frequent possibility. That way it is still VERY hard to find that perfect set of gear and magic find is then a nice addition to any piece of equipment and not a punishment removing some other combat effective stat that everyone would rather have and most need to run end game content.
Wanting a gear switching button means you want to equip your best DPS/defense gear, lower an enemies health to 5% or lower, and equip extremely meaningless and poor items that happen to have high MF for the killing of the enemy.
That's f*cking lame. This would remove the entire idea of trying to build a nice MF set with minimal DPS/defense loss.
Is that what you losers want? No set of MF gear with minimal DPS/defense loss? You don't want to have a whole new and fun theorycrafting strategy to work on?
UGH
I would like a gear switch button... Or more accurately, an extra set of slots for gear...
But for me, I would like it for swapping gear and build from when I solo to when I play Coop...
I've yet to stack MF, and I don't much care to... I figure I'm fine with the trade off... Stuff dies faster, so my lower chance of gear on more mobs balances out somewhat.
Edit: Guess I could mention that I'd like an out-of-combat switch only... : ) Which should have been obvious anyways, but you know how these kids are these days : )
I think is a good thing to have in the game. But Im thinking more in situations like "le wild mortar elite appeared" -> switch to fire resist 1.5k gear. Or something like that.

Best way to play is still farming packs.
