I am no longer a fan of Blizzard, since patch 1.0.3 and the rampant mistakes the patch has, over and above the "bugged" equipment stats (yeah as if that wasn't done to sway AH prices), instead of dealing with poorly timed animations causing rubberband death, laggy servers and super crappy loot drops the development team is busy banning people from the forums that disagree with the brown-nosers who are DIRECTLY insulting those of us that are frustrated. Maybe Blizzard needs a third party to come in and FIX their game for them, it's become obvious all they are concerned with is whether or not the RMAH makes $. The real reason die hard diablo fans didn't get a real diablo 3 is simple, the team that actually put it together and made it great all left when a French company took it over and changed the corporate agenda, to pure profit, no fun for you, we decide whats fun, aren't you thankful?

That's basically YOUR choice. I've never been such a "fan" of games. Just playing it was fine enough. Be a fan of specific games, not of a whole company. D2 and WoW were amazing games, you hate Blizz now cause D3 isn't what you wanted it to be? o___o
Actually the D2 developers are no longer with Blizzard. And Blizzard made so many bad decisions regarding WoW that they've ruined the game. Same could be said for D3. Lots of bad decisions. Many players expected the game to be like D2LoD but improved on every aspect. It turned out to be more like WoW.
Yes, we've heard it a million trillion times. They ruined WoW, they ruined this, they ruined that.
Yet they still have some of the most popular titles out there.
All this hatred and venom, it's like a crime of passion - when you're there, in the heat of the moment, you cannot possibly make a rational decision. Let's talk in 5 or 6 months about how horrible D3 is. You know, after everyones emotions settle down and they can actually evaluate the situation without flying off the handle.

Since I was out of diapers when this all happened I can actually make a point here Mr. Duncan. Not all the Blizzard North developers are gone. Some of the big names are gone (Schaefer brothers and Roper are the biggest) but Uelmen, Cheng, and others stayed after this. Of those really only Uelmen has left to join up with Runic. The problem you're having is that you're generalizing a very complex situation. Since Blizzard North's cut Blizzard has made BC, SC2, WotLK, Cataclysm, and continued making content for those games. Since those developers departure they've created, Mythos (beta), Hellgate London, Torchlight, and Champions online. SO OUT OF THESE BIG NAMES... who has done better? The Shaefer Brothers have done decently for themselves with a quick release of Torchlight. Showing what talented people can do in a short time. But honestly it was more well received due to its price tag if you ask me. Torchlight 2 may improve on this and I, as well as Blizzard (publicly btw) hope they do very well.
See? Even Blizzard doesn't create the distinctions that you have. They continue to support their ex-employees as much as possible. Morhaime has stated many times he'll be playing Torchlight 2. And don't quote me on this but I seem to remember a whole lot of the textures in Mythos being from WoW. The Bro's over at Runic have nothing but good things to say about Blizzard. Roper had some finicky things to say about Blizzard after he left but they did basically kick him out because they didn't like his creation. Since Blizzard North though... has anything he's done been good? I honestly believe (and this is only my belief not to be confused with fact) that Roper is a bit overrated in this genre of entertainment. Also, you're bound to make a few enemies in any business :-/
D3 is constantly compared to 10 year old D2. Unfortunately the comparison isn't even apt if it was D2 day 1 to D3 Day 1 comparison because they are different games. If you want more of the same D2-wise you should probably play that. TL2 isn't going to be D2, PoE isn't, Titan Quest isn't, and Grim Dawn may never see the light of day (SEE WHAT I DID THERE!?). They are all going to be their own creations. D3 is a very good game thats going to continue getting better over time. People quitting now will almost certainly come back at some point and be just peachy. Those that don't probably loved playing Hammerdins, using maphack, duping, and botting. Glad they're leaving.

Wanna know whats REALLY FUNNY?
The OG Diablo team you are holding up on a pedastal?
Yeah, they were making Diablo 3 into an MMO like WoW.
Do you feel like a moron yet? Because you should.
Dude relax. By the way. They were making diablo 3 an action rpg still playing like a hack n slash but with mmo features. i'm quite sure it wouldn't be anything like WoW. More Diablo 2 LoD with more players. Actually sounds pretty darn awesome to me.
I agree, in my eyes that's the recipe for an amazing game!
And to the OP, I hear ya.
Might be worth it to check back when they add PvP, all though I don't really have high hopes for it, you never know I guess.
And for Blizzard, I really hope the Panda expansion flops. They really need to take two steps back and re-think what made them great in the first place, not how to earn a buck in the quickest way possible.
Getting extremely bored of the homogenization path they are on now.
I realize this will be an unpopular reply around these parts but such is life. Blizzard is a business and as such they are in the business to make money, not cater to the specific needs of any particular group of gamer. Smart businesses are going to create products with wide spread appeal. Gaming is different now than it was 15-20 years ago. It's more widely accepted and it simply does not make sense to make games that cater to a small audience. It's not just Activision either. Blizzard has never acted completely independently. Before they were owned by Activision they were a Vivendi company and it seems most people have forgotten Diablo 2 was launched before it was ready because Vivendi called the shots. It was not the smoothest of sailing's either but look how that turned out.
Also you don't actually want to see MoP fail. That's bad for business and bad for the industry. What you want is the "Blizzard of old" and honestly that company does not exist anymore. The industry that allowed the "old Blizzard" also does not really exist anymore. If you, or anyone for that matter, no longer agrees with how they operate then maybe it's time to move on. Show them with your wallet, since at the end of the day, that speaks the loudest. We can only blame ourselves for, as you put it, homogenization of their products. People keep buying them so they keep on developing. It speaks to the fact that the industry has changed and that developers have to change too. Gaming isn't niche anymore and while that certainly doesn't bother everyone I think it bothers a lot of people.
Anyway, I hope Blizzard is able to "salvage" this game for the people who take issue with it. I think they will and I think down the road we will see D3 develop into an amazing game. I think it's solid right now and I look forward to the iterations ahead.

Yeah, holding the records for most units sold, longest attachment rate, best player depriciation rate, and basically being the king of all MMO games.
you won't be missed, Blizzard doesn't care about you if you are not an active spender on the RMAH
I am actually on the same boat, who refuse to spend a dime on RMAH and stop playing the game entirely as they make the drop rates so bad to force you to use RMAH
And I do realize they want to make money, the homogenization path they are rocking at full speed will not turn out to be so lucrative in the long run I don't think (in a years time I believe the subs will fall drastically).
You are right about the wallet though, I think the same way and have since D3 release unsubscribed to WoW, and I will not generate cash for them through their RMAH.
While WoW still has enough subscribers to make Kotick grin with his moronic face, you can still sense that MoP will be a crucial piece in the 'cash cow' puzzle that is WoW.
People are growing tired (ex realm,ex guild, forums), and instead of being innovative to spark that interest plug, all I see is homogenization which has exactly the opposite effect in the long run.
I think they have lost their touch.
I just want it to fail for the sake of... pandas... FFS. There is no level of perspective you can take a panda fighting an orc seriously..

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
I dont understand why people say that a game is good because lots of players are playing it. If dumbing down a game to attract a broader audience is good game design then sure, i agree with you. That's just not the way i see it.
It's a typical gaming model, games are targeted for young teenagers... unfortunately kids now are more retarded then ever.

i wouldnt say the game is dumbed down that much, in fact its less dumbed down than diablo 2, what do you do when you make a diablo 2 character? click all skills that synergize, no brainer there, with D3 you have to be careful with your skill combos, put thought into it and not just pick the next best synergy, sure you can skill swap, but that doesnt mean that every combo is good., and there are all of the ways skills can change with runes, LOTS of strategy to be had here, how is this dumbed down?

Umm, no. This is from a recent interview:
"You know, when I was working at Blizzard a million years ago we were working on Diablo 3 and it was an MMO. We were going to do the Diablo version of World of Warcraft. Blizzard obviously changed that pretty quickly, so we left to start Flagship Studios and we brought in a lot of the guys, so they rebooted with their own team."
Let me rephrase the critical part "We were going to do the Diablo version of World of Warcraft." Blizzard North was effectively turning Diablo into World of Diablo, they were making it an MMO. I always laugh when people start praising the North team as this infallible pillar of gaming excellence. In effect, they were destroying Diablo behind the scenes, and most people didn't even know about it. The D3 we have today is far closer to the Diablo franchise than the World of Diablo they were making, and Shaefer even applauded the current effort Blizzard has put into the game. I think that says a lot.
