Just beat Diablo on Inferno last night (200 hours), wanted to know I could do it before they nerf everything in 1.03. Now I'm gonna play a lot less until the patch :\ lost most the will to farm, might as wait til they make it less time consuming.
Thrown the towel in? No. Excited for 1.0.3? Oh hell yes.
My main problem is that I've no idea what to do. My wizard has Inferno Act I on auto-fire, but struggles a bit on Act II. My monk just got to Act II, but is still a ways away from the right gear. I'm pulling my WD through Nightmare now, and my DH through Normal. I refuse to use the AH, and so far the mission of getting good gear in Act II just to do Act II is a mission.
I haven't given up, still enjoying the hell out of this game. But the welcoming thought of 1.0.3 is growing by the day.
The whole Inferno difficulty was by far the biggest letdown I have ever had in my gaming history. And it was the feature I was looking forward the most in D3.
I managed to deal with a ton of changes I feel could've been kept as they were: skill and rune changes, the massive downgrade in crafting in general (no Mystic, BS and Jeweler costs), the legendaries having random affixes. I could also deal with massive downtimes so far, hotfixes to skills, an awful release (server wise), and all that stuff.
What I can't deal with is how Inferno was supposed to open up our choices, and instead it became a grind-fest and lots of cookie-cutter builds. Plain numbers would've allowed the devs to predict how strong we could get and how much int/vit/dmg we would've had at a given point, and balance Inferno accordingly.
Right now, I feel like we're 100% heading towards WoW style gameplay, grinding for hours to get to the next gear check, and since the numbers are so over the top, as soon as you get that 1.2k weapon, you rolfstomp previous content. That was not was Inferno was supposed to be. End-game to me is looking like it will be farming only the last 2 acts, and having the rest of the game being so boring it doesn't even matter.
The whole idea was to have a challenging (from a gameplay standpoint, not a gearcheck one) difficulty, always with that "just right" feeling (you know, that feeling when you first entered Nightmare or Hell and hadn't upgrade your gear yet? or when the upgrades were crappy?). That's why scalability in Inferno is such a bad idea.
It's such a shame the ship has sailed already, and even a bigger shame that their combat system feels awesome, they didn't need to break Inferno into such a big gear check. They could've 100% made it with just gameplay focus. Better AI, new boss mechanics (like summoning rares/champs to prevent the rushing that happened). They can't fix it anymore the way I see it. Sincerely hope PvP restores my faith in end-game.
Inferno is supposed to be hard... It's supposed to take a lot of time... The fact that some early levellers got through 'easy' is great, for them, but if it were just a slight ramp up over Hell, like Hell is over NM, what would be the point?
Personally, I don't mind Inferno being hard, in fact, I like the difficulty curve of Inferno as I have encountered it.
What I do not like is the poor drops that seems to be common place. On my monk, who has just hit Act 3 Inferno, has about 110 hours played and I think I have actually looted 1 item that I am currently wearing, everything else is from the AH.
I have no issue with the AH, I have no issue buying gear from there to supplement my items but that's just it, but IMVHO the AHs should be there to supplement the loot you find yourself or act as the place to get BiS items. As it stands, I personally find the AH mandatory to be viable.
I am waiting for 103 to sort this out and I hope it does.
Not all people looking forward to or waiting for 103, or even slightly tired of the current system, wants a nerf to the difficulty or are whiners or bitching
exactly, i m pumped for 1.03, not because of the difficulty, I can farm act 3 siege breaker with 5 stacks, just have to die a fking million times from 1 shot, no problems, but i get like lvl 52 rare weapon drop that does 150 dps all day, never anything that I can sell or use, the stuff that I got from drops are so bad that ppl wouldnt even buy on AH for 1000g, its bullsh1t, like it takes so long to get stacks in act 3, hoping for the slightest chance that something to drop, and ended with disappointment, no lootz no progression. The best way to progress is to vendor all the bullsh1t drops so you get gold to buy something useful on the AH.
Well I can farm 5 stack zoltun + belial in less than half hour, its gonna drop the same bullsh1t, I might as well just do that so I can get more vendor trash traded in for gold. Or butcher run, all the same to me.
After seeing the kind of money my friends are moving back and forth on the RMAH I don't want to play this game ever again. It's a travesty. It's hardly even a game at this point.
this game currently is so boring, takes so much time to find elites and kill them for stack, and theres a high chance that u get nothing out of it
like in D2, if u do baal run, u get some unique/set to drop at least each run so u get somewhat rewarded, and the runs are fast, like if u dont get something this run, no problem, just run again it only takes 2 minute for another chance to get lootz
I've definitely stepped away from my monk until 1.0.3 I see ranged characters MILES above me with cheaper gear and I'm sitting around at the beginning of act 2 getting beat down.
Now I'm just trying to decide do I play a wizard or DH until then.
To give it a word i shall say i have had a slight fascination with this game...slight being the optimal word...but fortunately all the problems i have with this unfinished game(my opinion) are all known to Mr Blizzard and are currently being addressed so i shall return at some later date. The ability to experience joy at finding a legendary with worth will atract me to play again i should say.
ya I used to love this game as well, because its fun to play, and you can play solo, and play with 1-3 other friends, I like it that you don't have to depend on like 9 other ppl in order to accomplish anything.
but the lootz drop are so bad that a 99.9% of them are worthless vendor trash, its not worth it to play the game farming stuff when you know that 1.03 is gonna drop better item and elites can be killed faster
the game is not even that hard at the moment, just annoying, how is it hard that all u do are shootting stuff off the screen, make sure that mobs cant see u on ur screen or else u get 1 shotted
It's such a shame the ship has sailed already, and even a bigger shame that their combat system feels awesome, they didn't need to break Inferno into such a big gear check. Why would you say it's too late? If they keep updating the game and make the systems a bit more evened out and more enjoyable overall, then you'll still be able to get a lot out of the game. I can easily imagine myself making a few characters again way down the line, say over a year from now, and just play the game without hand-me-downs, just to see the impact all the feedback changes had on the game. Even the expansion characters will be a way new experience than what we're experiencing at present, so I wouldn't go so far as to say that the ship has sailed.
I do like your idea to further boss mechanics though. Imagine the Skeleton King on Inferno raising a rare pack when it's health gets halfway down. Now that would be something. Blizzard really shouldn't discredit upping the ante on Inferno when it comes to the boss battles.
for instance, I sort of like the whole effect of the Butcher fight. Having to watch the floor plates, studying his attack cues, while keeping an eye on your health does add a sort of fun dynamic to the fight. If Blizzard would add deep boss mechanics to all of the Inferno boss fights, then that would be a blast..
I haven't thrown in the towel, but I have been playing much less frequently after I learned about the changes in patch 1.0.3. I also have a helluva lot of gems waiting for coupling
Only certain affixes and certain white mobs with too much burst get nerfed in 1.0.3, which is understandable in my eyes. This means that there will still be a challenge. Which is good.
I think PvP will be mega unbalanced when it releases. I can see the 200-350k dps Demon Hunters and Wizards instakilling people already. When blizzard sees this they will probably downgrade you're gear everytime you enter an arena and let skills decide who wins and not gear... or something along those lines I don't know.
Act 2 is not that bad to be honest, just you wait until you get to act 3. You WILL rage.
D3 may have a few flaws but I still enjoy the game. Overall the quality and feel of the game is very good. There are rarely good PC exclusive games so I think i'm sticking to Diablo 3 for quite some time.
Inflation is so high that the gear upgrades to take me past A2 and into A3 are months beyond what I bring in for gold per week. I can make maybe 2-3 million a week, so that is maybe one item upgraded. Ive got at least 9 items needing upgrade, which means Im about 9 weeks minimum from being able to move on. probably more like 3 months of Butcher runs........ F-that.
Im currently leveling all my characters to 60 until the patch hits. Monk is 60, DH will be 60 tonight. WD is 44 will be 60 by the weekend. Wiz & Barb are both lvl 34 and I can see them being 60 by next weekend.
The whole Inferno difficulty was by far the biggest letdown I have ever had in my gaming history. And it was the feature I was looking forward the most in D3.

I Agree. This game had a lot of potential and it seems to have been washed away by all of the bullcrap that happened within the first 2 weeks of release. For as long as the game took to be released, it didn't feel finalized or polished at all and its very clear they rushed it out for the $$. The combat system is wonderful however its been made very clear they are in this for the $$$ and that's pretty much it.
To be honest the itemization is lazy and was done in such a way that when they release DLC'S (which they will, for $$ of course) you'll just see wow-itemization all over again...where its the same crap...just bigger numbers. I'm honestly laughing here because I bet when everyone started QQing over legendaries being underpowered they were like oh my god this is too good to be true. They only affirmed this position by only buffing NEW legendaries because guess what, people will have to buy the items again once their buffed since it won't affect existing items already out. Can you say RMAH transaction fees?!.
I would have liked to see more diversity in the builds, while they have a TON of combinations, only a few are viable for inferno, and it only gets worse based on what class you're playing.
The melee/range debate is a terrible one, only 1-2 affixes on champion/rare packs really are heavy counters for ranged...the rest just destroy melee. The proposed 1.03 changes while interesting don't do much to address the problem at all. I'm hoping PVP brings something to the table but to be honest...I don't care for the WoW Arena style pvp they're bringing to the table. Granted its more structure than D2 offically had...but if you knew what forum was all about d2...(im sure you do) then PVP wasn't hard to come by.
All in all I'm a bit saddened to see D3 in the state it currently is in...I had fun for the most part...but its just frustrating to no end. They've clearly made the RMAH the staple point of this game, because there is no way without it you can progress, unless you farm for weeks getting that 1 decent rare.
I wouldn't say I quit so much as I'm no longer "farming." I have "beaten" Inferno mode, but still find my character to be subpar when attempting Elites in Acts 3 and 4, and really only play when a real-life friend asks for help. Other than that, I am waiting to 1.0.3 until I resume my farming. I think that they made damn sure that the RMAH was released before 1.0.3b for very obvious reasons.
I have a DH and Barb at 60. Attempted a bit of A1 Inferno but it's just not Diablo anymore at that point. I'm leveling every class to 60 and we'll see what the state of the game is by then.
I wouldn't say I quit so much as I'm no longer "farming." yup, its kind of funny too, 1 of my threads about that got deleted. I'm sure they were more than happy to rebuff legendaries only to release them...they're pretty much inventing another market influx for when all these new legendaries with buffed stats it...its insane how much this game is ''balanced/changed'' with the influence of $$ at the end of it.
What a thread of whiners:/ Just put in some effort.
I don't think people are annoyed by the "difficulty" of Inferno, but more by the promises that were unfulfilled. They promised better AI, different monster patterns, improved battle mechanics and delivered plain high numbers, easily avoidable champions/rares and lazy boss mechanics. That's what bothers me, at least.
I wouldn't mind being a "noob" and not able to compete at Inferno level, as long as I knew that they did it right. God of War "highest difficulty right", with tighter timings and that "just right" feeling all the time (even if you had the absolute best gear for a given "build").
As far as I'm concerned, Hell could have a 70% "max gear efficiency" check to be cleared, and Inferno could be "playable" at 80%+ and still challenging even at 95% (assuming that 100% gear efficiency is unnatainable/utopic - and assuming the reader of this statement actually understands what gear efficiency is).
There you go, people farm Hell to be able to play Inferno, and then proceed to enjoy a whole difficulty for their late-game that's always challenging (which was the whole concept anyways from the start).
Because from how I see it, making Inferno a progression is a "design" issue (not a balancing issue which is what most people say when they complain about it), and a huge mistake, one that they can't fix with by tuning drop ratios or monster numbers, because of how gear and monster hp/dmg scales. It doesn't matter what they do, Acts 1 and 2 will never be "challenging" to a guy with 60k dps and insane armor/resists.
I'll definitely keep playing the game for quite some time, and I'm already leveling other chars (got a Barb and a Monk at 33) and still having a blast (specially in late Nightmare, early Hell if I purposefuly don't go overboard with the AH). My Wiz is not doing so bad on Inferno as well with 650+ resists and 32k dmg/35k HP, so it's not like I hit the brickwall that hard, I'm just disappointed with the overall design.
When I say the "ship has sailed" I mean that Inferno, in its original concept, is dead and there's not much they can do about it.

honestly, i dont mind it being hard, but at least drop some god damn lootz for me if its so freaking hard already
so the ideal way is easy and fast clear, so eventually u do more fast run u will get loot maybe after a millionth time running the same content
so if i want to be skilled, just work some hours of OT at work, get real $ to buy a full set of $250 on each gear slot
then I can be like the guy in the other post who said he wish that the inferno mobs have done more than 0 damage to him
