Age has nothing to do with playing an M rated game. Maturity is a much more reasonable measure by which you can gauge someones readiness to play an M rated game. Violent games do not incite aggressive behaviors in a child or adult unless they have a pre-existing condition or a mental incapacity to understand that this is fictional and doing this is real life is wrong. If her daughter is old enough to understand the game and be mature about it and not be more aggressive due to her playing the game then let her play.
I for one thought it was awesome that someone as young as her is able to play the game through to at least Hell difficulty seeing as it is a harder difficulty to play in.

It's awesome that you have that all figured out and nailed down. You should tell the people studying the affects of violent entertainment on children (for what it's worth, I agree, though I wouldn't claim it to be fact).

Children are psychologically malleable. While it may not directly make her go harm things... the ratings are giving to video games based on a combination of things. For example, I cuss ... I swear... I tell people to go fuck themselves and even die in the game. The reason i do? (well maybe i don't... but half the internet does).
Children are highly impacted by what they see and do... a 13 year old is a different story than a 9 year old. I would be pissed to see a 13 year old playing... but that's just because they are annoying little shitheads.... a 9 year old is just simply too young.
I don't understand why people are getting upset over this... I played Diablo 1 when I was 6, "back in the day" Diablo 1 was crazier than Diablo 3 is right now (It's not as dark) and a rating is only something overprotective parents care about IMO. A parent can teach his child that his in-game behavior should in-game behaviors and to not bring them to the real world.
Yeah i was 10 years old and was playing Mortal Kombat and i'm not a complete psychopath. That's pretty cool OP, good choice in class for her too, and to get all the way to 50 for someone her age is pretty sweet. Although, if i remember right, when i was 9 i could game it up with the best of em.
But yeah ignore all the haters, it's your kid, and it's really easy for someone to sit back and tell you how to parent. She'll be fine, lol.
I was around 7 started D1 then D2 and I'm perfecty fine. I don't understand why people freak out because people let young chidren play violent video games. My sister is 10 and she played D2 and she plays WoW now.

In this particular case, I don't really see the harm. D3 has some horror-lite and that's about it. No nudity or language red flags (that I remember, been skipping cutscenes for weeks now ), and even the violence in pretty lightweight. It's mostly just bits falling off and the occasional blood-splat. Plants vs. Zombies with more ketchup and a better rendering engine.

Media, "scientific studies", and the overall blame game of "the video game [devil] made me do it", or the rap song, or whatever. Scapegoating is popular among some cells of society.
Your arguments saying you were 6/7/8/9 when you first played D3 are irrelevant. No offense but most of the people on this forum (somewhat including myself) are fucked up.
I think I was about a similar age playing D1. Cool kid. She kinda looks like a tiny, nine-year-old barbarian, too.
For all the gore it's not a very dark game. The writing is pretty bland and the story is so predictable and one-dimensional that it may as well have been written by someone at Disney. Now, if she was playing something like Max Payne or Amnesia I'd be a little concerned for her... then again, she might just be a total bad ass and make me look like a fool.
The only real takeaway for me here is that I should probably be less of an asshole in multiplayer games. The kind of vitriol, racism and sarcasm gamers spew in jest is far worse of an influence on young people than any gameplay or graphic violence can ever be.
I can see how this could have been controversial before D3 launched, but I can't for the life of me figure out where the M rating is coming from. D3 is a lot more tame than stuff I was playing at that age, like Doom and Mortal Kombat (and Leisure Suit Larry, but don't tell my folks).

...and if you disagree with me, you're probably <insert random ad hominem attack here>.
So long as the parent thinks the child can handle it, then fair enough. It's ultimately up to the parent, even if the 'law' or 'guidelines' disagree.
So OP, good for you that you're able to share interests with your child. I hope that one day I can do the same with my future offspring (if it ever happens, currently not planning on it but you never know :P).

I won't start....
Yeesh. Also, the term is "pwn", she is not exchanging the game for cash at a pawn shop.
