I'm debating using the Scoundrel since the Templar dies so quicky running straight into the mobs. I would benefit from the Scoundrel's skills and I just don't care for the Enchantress. So, forget damage and worry about other effects and CC is the plan. I want the Scoundrel's skills but he lacks CC.
My question is does a cold bow slow minions when a Scoundrel is using it? If so then I see potential. Use skill shot that slows and use skill that shoots 3 arrows at once and boom, mediocre CC. Stack vitality, increase attack speed, and hope he stays out of the way. Is this viable?
I'm planning to do this on my Demon Hunter just because I don't want the Templar even with stacked vitality. Sure, no tank but he's not a very good tank to begin with and it would make kiting a bit easier, maybe?
Edit: Oh yeah, a faster bow for my Scoundrel is preferable. Also, maybe -chance to stun/fear/etc would be a good idea, as well.
I mean it seems like you've made up your mind. I find the enchantress's skills invaluable though. I used the Templar for so long and then I tried her out and it's amazing.
Pretty sure cold damage doesn't slow though? I haven't paid much attention because I'm melee.

What are her useful skills? I tried her once and she just quickly died.
gear matters a LOT for followers, but she has a aoe that when enemies stand in it they take more damage from all attacks, she has a hex that turns people into chickens, she has a confuse that turns enemies against eachother, she has a spell that buffs armor for a while.
Her regular attack is AoE also, sort of like arcane orb when it hits.
I'm trying it right now albeit with terrible follower gear and only in Nightmare. It seems to work for now. The fast attack speed is definitely the way to go, though, considering the slow doesn't last very long. All three arrows he shoots slow mobs and he stays out of the way pretty well. Then again I'll have to see how good he stays out of the way when I Smokescreen in Inferno.
Oh, and it has a chance to fear but I haven't paid attention to see how often it procs. I would like to test if all three arrows have a chance to proc but I've yet to see two get affected with the same shot. Anyone know?

For ranged classes i use Templar, for melee i use enchantress.
I think the Templar is the best pick for Demon Hunter.
I use the Enchantress on my Monk (lots of CC, armor buff, etc.) while on my DH I levelled with the Templar, then hit Inferno where he just died all the time. So I've switched to the Scoundrel. He helps my DPS quite a lot, does alright DPS by himself, and does some useful CC. Hardly ever dies either.
I use the scoundrel for my dps follower. I took all the dps talents with him
I use the enchantress for my crowd control follower. Trained every CC ability with her.
I use the templar for my tank/healing follower. Trained the tanky stuff and the "oh crap" talents for when I'm in trouble.
I tend to use the scoundrel the most because I just found a nice xbow for him. The only thing I hate though is when we come up to a treasure goblin, I like to get on the other side of him first so he runs to places where I already cleared. Well the scoundrel doesn't see things my way and goes ahead and shoots him before I have a chance to get ready.

I hate that too! Luckily they will be addressing this in a future patch.

How so? Am I doing something wrong? As far as I can tell, the Templar is the most useless of the three followers. He gets in the middle of mobs and just dies and I get one hit anyway so his armor buff and heals are useless. Not trying to say that you're wrong cause maybe I'm just missing something about him. You should elaborate.
Also, does the cold damage slow lower attack speed? If so then he could be useful for a melee class, as well, imo. Not like the enchantress but still useful.
