hey all - i've got a level 36 WD in NM mode, and am looking for a suggestion for a good final skill to compliment my build. currently, i have the following:
i used to have zombie dogs by they die to fast. i also dont really like the plague of toads thing. i tried locus swarm but the cast distance is way too small. any suggestions for something to put in the 4th skill slot? or maybe suggestions to move some stuff around?
thanks

what i did through to 60 was pick the 2 passives that give you mana, one is the flat 20% and the other is the 300% regen whenever u have spells on CD. Third passive i chose the 20% extra damage for 30% extra mana cost. Then i had zombie dogs (life link when it was available), soul harvest, spirit walk (mana regen rune) and gargantuan. keep dogs and gargantuan constantly on cooldown, at the start of every fight spirit walk in, quickly soul harvest for 5, retreat before spirit walk ends, then u should have infinite mana for a few seconds. At this point, pick a high damage/mana cost aoe spell (my favorite was acid cloud) and SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM. u wont even need intelligence it will do so much damage you can focus on vitality (i had like 42k health by end of NM). At near 60 when u have access to zombie charger rune for bears, that is the most overpowered spell lol, i love it, i use that for the spamming, atm each bear can crit for 35k damage if i have 5 stacks of soul harvest, and that is aoe.... that is my build.pm me if u wanna add me in the game i Shadough on americas.

I personally love locust swarm. The amount of damage it eventually does is incredible. Also, you say that you do not like it because you have to go in close but you are also using soul harvest. Soul harvest is a much more dangerous spell to use in my opinion. Locust swarm with pestilence will infect an entire room in one application of the spell. Try it out again.
On another note, this build has it all and is quite similar to yours when it comes to play style:
The spirit barrage is for single targets. I do not use soul harvest because I was getting enough damage output from the build and my gear without it. The plan with this build is that you do not have to change skills depending on the situation since it is well rounded to handle all situations. The passives have great synergy with the skills used. I would possibly consider switching out jungle fortitude with either spirit vessel or pierce the veil if you feel you wont sacrifice too much survivability.
thanks guys - i didnt expect such well reasoned responses on an internet bulletin board. i'll try out locust swarm again tonight (or more likely in 10 minutes).
i used soul harvest not for the damage, but to recoup life. if zombie dogs lasted more than 2 seconds, i'd be able to focus more on damage output though.
i was really trying to recreate my necromancer build (a hybrid summoner / caster).
i'm nograndplan in the americas region.

I know the game is about choice and all that, but i suggest both of you revise your decisions not to use soul harvest. It will increase your dps SO MUCH lol, like by double almost. I use the heal rune for it, but it doesn't really matter you just need the buff. Also, the poster above said it's too dangerous, if you use Spirit walk and time them together, rush in cast SH and rush out, you will never take damage and constantly have 5 stacks of SH. 2 slots might seem like a lot but idk i think it is definitely worth it for the damage.

Here's my current build. The only mobs that present a challenge are the vampiric plagued ones. The fetishes heal them. But that can be overcome as well. He's awesome single target and he's more awesome at crowds. I miss haunt though. Against the "invulnerable minions" afix, that'd rock. Plus haunt doesn't even need to be aimed. Just fire it in any direction and it seeks out a target.

The problem with SH is that it's generally useless in a boss fight. And if your goal is to create a build that eventually lets you stack NV; it doesn't have a place, unless your planning on going up against a boss like: Maghda, SK, maybe Belial (maybe!). It's kind of situational, in that regard.
