I thought Blizzard mentioned this SO many times... but based on the number of people I've seen that have "discovered" elective-mode, I suppose the didn't do a good enough job. Spread the word! I think it's a much better way to play!

It doesn't matter how much Blizzard advertises or publishes information if no one reads it. So many people are bitching about one thing or another that has three for four answer from Blizzard already, probably even well before launch. Most of these people didn't follow the gam's development. Why should Blizzard be faulted for that. It might even be in the manual. I personally didn't read it because I followed development, I didn't need to.

Even though it is not necessary for an individual to follos something like this, it does help. But it seems to be the nature of Americans to not actually read, listen, reason correctly or understand even the most basic information. If most cashiers in drive thorughs have trouble giving someone their change without a calculator, why would you expect them to be able to click on options, gameplay, and check Elective Mode. All one has to do is...read. Gasp!

Fun thing is; I always thought Elective Mode is only useful for if you wanna have a certain skill on a mousebutton or something like this.
I didnt know that you can choose more than one Skill of a specific category while putting this option on.

And yes, its VERY good to know.

If you dont do the most basic reading about the game then you cant blame the developers if you miss something this obvious. Also if you havent learned to read all the options in the menu before playing, this is now the time to do so.

I agree with you, and I find it hilarious how oblivious some people are. I'm going to create a video on how to turn off the tutorial tips!

I feel sorry for the people that don't know about Elective Mode.

It's the only way to play, in my opinion.

Found out about this last night and was very mad at myself for not figuring this out earlier.

So my question then, and I haven't played D3 yet, is why would you turn it off in the first place?

Does anyone know if the game actually mentions or suggests switching over to elective mode after a certain point in character progress? Like after being normal for the first time, does the game ever throw up a message saying, "Hey by the way, if you thought you were having fun now, try THIS!"

OMG, that is so useful, why isn't it on by default for f's sake?

This has been covered a couple times by blues. The game was designed more like elective mode originally. The alpha tester feedback was that it felt like there were categories of skills they weren't being told about and it was too open ended. So they put in a framework to get you started that you can then turn off once you get an idea of what's available.
I grew up gaming without internet forums. The entire phenomenon of being upset with a game developer makes no sense to me. No sense. I cannot imagine spending my time and energy being upset about something I choose to do for recreation.

It took me about a day before I figured out that it didn't just let me rearrange which skill goes on what key, but also lets me have several skills from the same category. The game doesn't explain this very clearly, if at all, but I still felt kind of dumb. :)

    Fair enough :)

I can't believe people are defending Blizzard on this one! Elective Mode shouldn't be buried in the Options, it should either be default or a tick box in the Skills screen itself. The way they went about it makes absolutely zero sense. I'd like to hear a (coherent) argument against having it in the Skills screen.

I just can't find a reason to care. I knew long before i ever got my hands on the game that I'd be able to use elective mode. How is this actually a quality of life issue. The first time anyone ever tries to research build advice, elective mode comes up as a concept. That fits with Blizzard's declared intention to have elective mode reside in the category of "tribal knowledge" instead of in-game presentation.

My friend didn't know either. Was saying how blizzard messed up the game with their terrible skill system. I said: "You didn't turn on elective mode on yet did you?"

Haven't heard him complain about anything in the game ever since :)
