I'm a little worried, with the way the game is extremely linear/story-driven. Does every time you play the game force you to listen and watch cinematics or can you just farm items like in d2?
I haven't beat normal yet, so I wanted to see anyone that is on nightmare how they feel about playing the same content over again.
When you start or join a game you can select which main story line quest you want to start on. So you could be level 60 and start on the first Act 1 normal quest and do the whole game over if you chose. Likewise if you have beaten a difficulty you can just start at the last quest. You can skip all the cinematics and dialogue if you decide to do that.

So if I wanted to I could just use the waypoint at SK/butcher/etc and farm those all day long? Just trying to make sure I understand it right.

There are many other dungeons on maps that are not on the main storyline and you can pretty much do them.
I played through the beta content like 15-20 times, seeing how thats like 30 minutes of gameplay and I redid it that many times on different lowbie characters. I'd say replayability is cool, the thing about Diablo is that there's always room for improvement. You can find a single ring and watch your DPS go up with 200 points, perfecting a character is going to take a lot of time! And even if you perfect it for one build you still need gear alternates in order to play other builds optimally.
Not worried
(Im in act 2 Nightmare atm, but servers offline so going to bed)

I havn't tried it yet but that appears to be the case. When you start a specific quest it will only give you the WP's that you had/should have when that quest is started. In the beta if you farmed the SkellieKing it wouldn't give you the WP right outside his room because you didn't have that WP when you started the SK quest. Hope that makes sense.
One thing I'm not sure of because I havn't tried farming yet, is if the bosses are still alive when you start a new room but are on a further quest than the boss. For example, in D2 all the bosses were alive in a new game despite what quest you are on. The way the quest system is structured would suggest otherwise, but if it is like D2 it just means the farming would be that much quicker. Can anyone confirm/comment on this?

D2 was just as linear as D3.
