In an attempt to position my group of friends to be at similar levels going into the weekend, I have put a good amount of time trying to assimilate all available information regarding "Rushing" another player through the game and while there isn't a boatload of great information (and I wish I would've gathered more data during the Beta), here are my numbered conclusions with my assumptions following.
1) The greatest gap to allow in a game between friends is 7 levels. (e.g. level 30 and level 37 in a game with level 37 mobs).
- The level 30 will gain the same amount of XP killing a level 37 as a level 38.
- As the level gap between two players increases, the lower level character gets less XP (if the level 37 dings 38, the XP gained by the level 30 will be noticeably cut.
2) It will take roughly 1 hour per level ON AVERAGE until level 50.
- Most Blizzard games have a linear increase of time necessary to complete each level.
- Other checkpoint estimates are:
11 hours to level 21 (~30 mins per level);
16 hours to level 29 (38 mins/level);
24 hours to level 38 (~1h per level);
32h to level 43 (~1.5 hours/level);
46h to level 50 (2h per level)
Thoughts?
Here is the problem:
You and all the "We can make 60 in 30-60 hour" people all assume that the leveling rate is going to stay the same.
Blizzard has told us repeatedly that you will probably get ass kicked a lot in Nightmare and up, slowing you down. XP doesn't vastly increase as difficulty does, so if you are getting your ass kicked, you actually end up slowing down a LOT taking longer to level.
I wont make predictions because ultimately, we don't know yet and it will all depend on how hard Nightmare and Hell really are.
The only thing we DO know is that it has taken developers about 25 hours on first play throughs and between 15-18 hours on second and up runs.
Of course, everybody assumes that going through Nightmare and Hell will just be faster. For all we know, it takes 3 times longer.
But did you play D2 from the beginning normal was always easy but at the beggining before people had lots of extra gear for there characters I remember people taking awhile to fight through nightmare... I only ever played harcore but still diablo mephisto if you werent in 8 person games or using pre aquired gear i mean they were tough fights obviously nowadays there a joke but it wasnt a reflection of the beggining of diablo i think a lot players whether you consider them average or a bit better than average had trouble (originally) and if your not in that demographic your view is biased obviously thats not an indiscriminate critique of the game.
I think your averages are pretty well-thought out and I would agree with your 7 level rule. The fact of the matter is that we're dealing with a "progression" based system in D3 and not a "waypoint" system that we tackled in D2 when it came to power-leveling. This isn't a Baal-run central anymore...
if you give a crap about your friends, stay within 7 levels then make alts if you pull ahead. If you want to race to Inferno content, ditch them at lv 2!

Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!
I still wish Hell took atleast 3-5 months to beat... 60 isn't as good a cap as 99 was in Diablo2. Because it took AGES to even get to level 70-80 in D2 xD
I will play as much as I can for a week straight, I don't care how far I get or how hard it is, I will just enjoy it!
Decent predictions, and there's a base for your speculation, but then again we will know for sure in less than 2 days, so we should all rest now and get ready
I think there is a lot we don't know well enough yet to really have a good idea of how long it will take. There are also of course large luck factors as far as getting really good or really horrible items when you are leveling at any given point.
As far as Diablo 2 being extremely easy in normal and nightmare, it certainly wasn't if you were only using gear you found yourself while leveling. Yes, if you twinked your character out massively then you could just walk through everything, but if you were only able to use items you found while playing you were not going to just effortlessly breeze past all the mobs.
I will most definitly rush it, is there any bigger pleasure then the pleasure of efficiency?
Yea, there is. Taking your time, and getting the job done, properly.
Girls would agree.... If you know what I mean..
U mad bro? ;D
You scooby doo brah? You scooby doo?
PS:
Bleach sucks. The story starts off great, and progressively gets worse and worse at an exponential rate. At this point the story has so many plot holes its beyond swiss cheese, its empty space.

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"

some peoples enjoyment IS rushing through it. people play games for different reasons and in different ways
