I understand the unforgiving need to be the best.
What i dont understand is the need for that urge to overcome the want of an awesome game experience.
As i played through Diablo 2 i allowed myself to become Immersed in it's story.
Now i know alot of you out there are thinking that the only story you got was from cutscenes.
I however found the gameplay itself the majority of the story. I was writing it as i went.
I fail to see a difference here.
I do understand that blizzard has a particular tale to tell and they do it better then almost anyone.
I shall immerse myself in their story as i have in the past.
However just as in D2, D3 is my story im writing it as i play.
Sanctuary for its part is my home. I love my home and would do anything for it
My main point here being that why would anyone wish to rush through this game for the end content gear?
When you rush through life you get to the end and find you have missed the majority of it.
Because they said it will take months for Inferno to be beat. Many of us hardcore gamers were like,
Plus the story will still be there on our next play through.

I don't always burn. But when I do, I use hellfire.
I won't be rushing. I'll be exploring every centimeter of each area, killing every mob, destroying every barrel and listening to every piece of dialogue.

Yes i understand their intention for inferno and thats the one of th points if inferno takes so long to beat then they story will also take that long to enjoy for anyone whoe doesnt play it through the lesser difficulties
Different people will play in different ways, some will rush as fast as they can, others will take their time like you said, there are different motivations for every play style. What matters is that you play the game the way you will get the most enjoyment out of it
I plan to take my time and see everything on the first playthrough, talk everybody do every optional dungeons, play with each spell etc. Then I'll start playing in a min-max way at nightmare and above.
I plan on taking a bit longer on Normal when I start playing. But that is just so I don't miss any of the main story. But I don't plan on exploring every crevice when I want to get to Inferno by the 23rd.

I think OP represents a legitimate way to play the game. No doubt one of the key aspects of any game is the immersion one feels while playing the game. Thats why art, music, and story are really important for a game. The player feels like they are writing their own story within a contrived universe.
For myself personally, I will want to rush through the first few difficulties as fast as I can.
To answer your question: "Why the rush?" I think many players, including myself, are more attracted to the gameplay aspect of the game. Judging from previous Diablo games, and everything we know about the game, the combat system will really begin to open up as you get closer and closer to max level.
For some of us, thats where the real fun begins!
That said, I will definately go back to find all the little bits of lore, probably after a few months. One of the beauties of the Diablo franchise is that the replayability literally comes from replaying the game, whether its on a higher difficulty, to hunt for items, or just for fun with friends. Thus you don't really have to feel like your not progressing to replay the whole story with closer attention to detail.

In most cases I would rush, but I can't with this game. Well, I can to some extent.
I plan to write about my characters progression, as I enjoy writing (though you won't catch me saying its good, thats not for me to decide) but I feel like normal will simply pass by too quickly for me to do so effectively. To that end, I will be waiting for hell difficulty before starting to write which, for this game, is great because it is the same journey, just a higher difficulty.
One of the top suggestions I have seen for aspiring writers is that you need to form a habit of writing every day, so writing about my characters journey from her perspective will be a great way to balance my desire to play the ever living shit out of Diablo 3 upon release while still finding time to write very day. It will force me to find a break point and go 'I need to write this up' rather than just continuing to smash through the hordes. Lots of screenshots will help too
More power to those that want to rush though. Game designers may have a certain vision for how their game should be played, but once it is in a gamers hand, they can play it however they wish and if rushing is what they want and enjoy, thats awesome!
I know I won't have the free time to compete with the "rush to 60" guys who get the first Inferno clears and first lv-63 legendaries and sell them for $200 apiece. So I am definitely planning to take my time, enjoy storyline and cinematics and clicking on NPCs, etc. Unless you plan to be one of the competitive gamers who will actually be pushing toward a world first, I don't see the point in rushing.
It stems from the fact that video games are an entertainment form that is composed of many different elements. The big ones are: gameplay, competition, visuals, sound, and story. While in your point of view the story is what takes precedence, others might find gameplay, competition, visuals, or sound more fitting for themselves. The ones who are rushing through the game are probably the ones who love both the gameplay and competition aspects of video games. It's just a simple case of different people enjoying different things.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
