So I'm reading through a thread about the skeleton kings stats on different difficulties. I can't remember the exact number but the sk on inferno had some crazy damage number like 170k..... Now Im perfectly fine with this however half the posts after that were people whining about how blizzard has gone too far and getting one shotted will suck etc....... Now after being one of the many people lobbying for a real hard game and inferno in its entirety I'm a little pissed people are already whining for blizzard to nerf it before the games out your making us look crazy
They don't know how much armor will decrease damages.
They're fucking dumb to assume that they will get one shot because of a random number.
^ There it is.
And I do agree with OP. I hate that the fans who are most vocal about some things are also the least stable when it comes to an opinion. They want a hard game, but not too hard. RMAH sucks and will ruin the game, but I'm going to turn it into a small home business and make my fortune. This game is too much like WoW, but they should make it more like WoW.
I know Blizzard has the sense to see that those fans represent a small portion of their actual fanbase, but it's frustrating to get lumped together with the crazys.
it wont mean very little but it proly wont 1 shot if your geared up
enough armor to reduce things by percentages + pasives that reduce , plus all the other crap that reduces (too many abilities to list) it wont be that big an issue if you know to not get slamed by it every 2 seconds.
Agreed, this game NEEDS a mode this difficult, or its appeal and longevity will wear off too quickly.
If people are complaining about something being too hard and aren't up for a challenge that will force them to actually THINK and PLAN what kind of builds/gear they will use, then they shouldn't be bothering past normal.
The whole point of getting exclusive gear from inferno is that it's hard to obtain, so only those who put in the effort can flaunt it around.
I'm looking forward to slogging it through inferno as I'm sure it will be one of the most rewarding things to pass.
I agree with the guy who hopes inferno is completely impossible. For anyone who complains about infernos difficulty, they can stick with hell. They still got to complete the game. 3 times. Diablo 2 became no longer a challenge in hell after you attained Good-Great gear. And it encouraged me to just make a new charactor because I wanted that feeling of survival that I once had with my others before they became gods. Inferno better be so damn hard that even with the most god god gear, it will take eternity to grind through a few mobs without dieing. GG

It is not SK who does 170k dmg(minimun), it is a monster from act 4 called Armaddon. I won't be surprised if rare monsters with some affixes hit for over 300k. Yet, this Armaddon only drains mana and AP, doesn't have a dash of any kind, so any ranged shouldn't have a problem kitting it with some kind of slow.
On the other hand, a monk or barb can easily tank this. It is believed that the damage reduction from armor formula is:
1- 50*lvl/(50*lvl+armor)
If you look at lvl 60 armor alone on itens from artisans, plus str and skills that modify armor, not to mention itens affixes...You can easily have like 15k armor, therefore 85% damge reduction from armor alone. Resistances should work the same way, but I am not sure. I assume a 10% dmg reduction is totally safe to say...
So, looking at a Barb with ONLY Threatening Shout as a defensive spell, let's see those 300k dmg again:
300k * 85% armor dr * 10% resistance dr * 20% dr from shout * 30% melee passive = 22,680.
Given the fact that people could have almost 2k HP in beta with some vit itens, lvl 60 will have 100k+ hp.
If u put some defensive cooldowns + cc's + dodge + life steal + pots + etc... they hit like a lady...
People will only get one shot if some crazy affixes combo that make monsters hit for like 1.5kk+ raw dmg
To me, it's the perfect example of "you can't please everyone".
On one hand you have people complaining that the game is too easy and won't take any real skill. Now with the inferno info, you have people saying its too hard and unbeatable.
The great thing is that diablo has a wide spectrum to appeal to everyone in one way or another.

and I hope we will get one shotted in inferno and I also hope the only blizzard response to whining will be "Play a lower difficulty level."
It's called a difficulty level for a reason, right.
I'm suprised blizzard doesn't have a higher programmer turn-over rate, with the amount of whining people do over their games... But they still buy them right?
On topic;
If you're whining about inferno mode, maybe video games just isn't the thing you're good at. Try normal and you should go outside and find another hobby.
I keep seeing that argument of "We just see numbers, but don't know ours"
Well that is the 100% truth and I agree to that, but what a lot of people are ignoring is the % increase for each act.
The jump in all values % wise is rather massive. that right there is good information. Also we have information on high end affixes and such (d3inferno.com), we can kind of get ideas of whats going on. But yeah... Numebers dont mean much yet, but the scaling we see sure as heck does. and its BIG, and its scary, just the way I like it!
I hate people complaining about people complaining :P. We're allowed to speculate u know.. Not much else to do considering as it's so close to Diablo 3 release date i'm sure it's more or less the only thing a lot of us can think about.
I think the main comment that i've seen has nothing to do with speculation about how much HP/dmg we have etc. It's just people voicing the notion that being 1 shot by a champion just walking up to u and hitting u with an auto-attack is the wrong sort of difficult (unless ure playing a glass-cannon or somthing similar). Yet after seeing such huge numbers and reading all the stuff they've explained so far about inferno it almost seems like this could be the case and so there discussing it or trying to put it out there that this isn't the style of difficult they want.
I want a really challenging inferno mode, but i wouldn't consider being forced to go into some gimmiky play style/spec to avoid ever even being hit even once the sort of game id enjoy. Sure some abilities can have such power but to just be like if they hit u with an auto-attack u dead... that's not fun and theres many many other methods of making somthing just as if not more challenging without doing it like this. Now I don't actually think blizzard are doing it this way, but just incase they are i'm damn sure gnna say don't want! I'm not asking for a nerf I want an inferno that i'll die in repeatedly and spend months on but for every fight to break down to kiting cus gettin hit means death... That's not the fun or difficult, it's just lame.
well there is late hell footage (probably 60 because wiz has diamond shard)
3 affix shows its hell, wiz getting owned. Heals up to full with 1 or 2? 4100 hp life globes.
explosive blast (225% weapon dmg)
Now if you can get into inferno act 1 with these kind of dmg and hp, it does make inferno look mighty hard. From brady guide, hell arachnid horror does 4k dmg in hell act1, inferno act1 it does 18k dmg.
Do people genuinely think Blizz would release a game where you have to completely avoid getting hit? A game where a boss will just one shot you even with an 'auto attack?' A game where melee characters have to duck in and out to land hits and avoid being wtfbbqsaucepwnd?
I don't think they would. I'm not a fan boi, I just don't think they would be that stupid
I guess the question is (which will soon be answered, god I love sayin that part...) how will they make it as difficult as they propose without doing somthing like this? I mean, how can they make somthing so hard that hardcore players will need to spend months on it without somthing like this... I mean making somthing hard for 25 people to down is 1 thing, but making it hard for a single person to down is somthing else.
I for one can't think of a way to do it other than this, then again i'm sure the people at blizz are far smarter than I :P. I mean I get that we're gnna get 1 shot before we get our full lvl 60 set of gear, but once we get all this gear and we walk on into inferno able to fight through it without insta-dieing how on earth will the uber-l33t hardcore players not just troll there way through in a matter of days? Perhaps the time they claim it will take is simply how much time they expect people to spend to get geared enough for it... Which will be disapointing I hope it's more but I just don't see how they'll do somthing no other game has achived, but if anyone can it's Blizzard.
Perhaps it starts where we will get 1 shotted. Blizz look at the numbers, see passed the QQ on the forums to the facts and realise they need to tone it down. They go too far and it gets hotfixed.
They tweak and balance and play and amend and they end up with a game where it's perfectly tuned.
I'd rather it starts too hard and gets made progressively easier (not easy, just less insane) to the right pitch of difficulty than start too easy where people are able to annihilate and reap the benefits before the game is tuned upwards.
Yeh i'd always prefer it be to hard than to easy, i'm just curious as to how they will be able to make a game in which the best players in the world will find it difficult to do alone without using some form of gimmicky stuff. The most common method used to make games insanely "difficult" is where a mob will take a very long time to kill, say 15min and during that time repeats an abilities in which if i do not dodge it within that 10th of a second gap u die (such as ninja gaiden 1) which to me just isn't fun.
But can anyone think of a way to make a game hard enough for the best players without a gimmick like this? As I and every other company that's tried can't... Just hope that Blizzard does what has so far been the impossible :P. Infact that's interesting we should maybe make a new topic in which everyone can give there methods of making a game of such a difficulty level without making it gimmicky XD.

Well, luckily Blizzard already views anything past normal as more for the 'core' crowd of Diablo, and furthermore views inferno as a goal that most people won't reach (by beating act4) for months. I don't see them ever nerfing it (fingers crossed)
