ever since the beta was released and i spent more time following the game, the wife has been on my ass...curious if anyone else has had a few run ins related to the game and what they are...figured this could be a pretty interesting thread if people share their stories, i'll start...
planning on going to a midnight release with a buddy who i will be playing with when the servers go live. told the wife about it and she gets offended...wished that i would have asked her. so i ask her and she says she doesnt want to go...so i ask why she wants me to ask her if she didnt want to go, and she doesnt really have a reason other than she wanted to go with me. i tell her i think it is so sweet that she would offer to do that with me considering her hate of the game (and it really is!). then she just keeps making these underhanded comments wishing i would have asked her instead of my mate (for you aussies)...
needless to say im thoroughly confused by this entire interaction, led to some minor bickering, nothing major (this time)...
anyone else got some good stories (or advice) to add?

"If you don't have a TV, then what is all your furniture pointed at?"
Women do that kind of thing to manipulate and control men.
I had a few issues with a past relationship when it came to gaming and I eventually had to just tell her she was a fucking moron and kick her out of the house, lol.
I guess no particular stories come to mind, but I defiantly have a situation regarding gaming in general. I'm 23, I bought my own duplex two years ago and rent out one side / live in the other. I met my girlfriend just a couple months after I bought my place. We get along fine in a lot of areas (including the big ones like money habits, politics, religion, ect) but she defiantly hates video games. It stems from her mom playing wow nonstop and ignoring her and her sisters, and I can sympathize. But, and this may sound ridiculous at first, I told her straight up I love playing video games, even if it's just a specific few, and that I'm not going to stop. I'll make time for her, but she had to realize I will also make time for myself (mostly in video games).
She's seen me spend a lot of time at my computer (mostly hoping for D3 news) and also play the beta a LOT in the past 6 months lol. It defiantly irks her sometimes and if the positions were reversed I'd completely understand.
But, I told her just like I tell anyone else that will listen; Life's too short to do shit you don't want to do. Call me selfish, conceded, what have you, but I do things that I like to do. I love her to death and I want to be with her always, but I'm not going to compromise on anything that I like, including hobbies.
My advice (and I'm no therapist) is just to shrug it off. I'm not saying be mean, but you've done all you've been able to; Include her, apologize and so on. Don't let it ruin your night.
just plan a surprise night for her to cheer her up. get some flowers just for no reason and do something you know she enjoys. she'll appreciate it and it will be pretty difficult for her to stay mad at you over the midnight release. =]

I agree with your stance wholeheartedly. It doesn't matter what makes you happy, just as long as you are happy and enjoy your hobbies. Been married just over a year and already know, "happy wife, happy life." words to live by...

and i already been doing a lot of this, more dates, more gifts, more time and attention. that's the irony of it all!!
Nope. My wife brought the topic up before we married and I told her straight up.... I like playing computer games and that will never change. Told her I dont gamble, dont come home at 3am from the pub, get into fights or beat women up so you make the call.
It's psychological warfare with them, next thing you know, she'll somehow tie in something you did that pissed her off 2 years ago, and then throw a 'You don't love me anymore!'
It's gonna happen.

"The Unchosen" Pain of Admirance Sigil (For those without -Feat of Strength-):
I just converted my female into a follower - now she's as anxious for May 15th as I am...
I then systematically muscled her out - the digital download is mine off the bat.. when the CE arrives in the mail later that day - it's mine too. She'll have to wait until I get the key from converting my account to CE before she can play :D.
.... all I had to do was book a trip to Vegas on the following week for her birthday.... (Oh noes! :D)
It's WIN - WIN!
Sometimes I'm thankful I was raised in a house full of manipulative women... I learned from the best

Been happily (mostly :-) )married since.
This!
I have found that there is no solution or easy way to merge gaming with a happy marriage life unless she is a hardcore gamer as well. The only thing to suggest is to be honest and upfront. I can say that my wife absolutely dispises games but she realizes that it is something that I can never give up. I have told her about this game for the last 8 months so she knows it exists and that I will disappear when it releases. She isn't excited about that, but she knows what to expect.
But my marriage life isn't that simple! She had a due date of 3 May with our first child. I was hoping to have our child born any time after 6 May so that my 10 paid leave days from work (standard rule for active duty military) will overlap with release. Surprisingly, she started having her first contractions Sunday at 7pm and it was time! Our son Tomass was born at 3:15 am.
So this means that I must request additional time off from work and manage the angry wife, crying newborn and diablo 3 after it releases.
I would suggest you keep your significant other informed of any plans to "game." Always let her know that tomorrow after dinner you will go "shoot some people" or "kill dragons." You will be surprised what her reaction would be. "I want to see it" or "Wow, that looks so real, maybe I should try to play!" (In reference to Battlefield 3).
Never let her think that you value a video game more than her. Always spend time with her, but DO NOT over compensate (ie, give a million gifts so you can 'justify' spending less time with her). My wife is from a European country called Latvia. I thought American women hated games, but she had the hardest time adjusting/accepting that I play games. We have come to some kind of an agreement or terms that she likes. She understands that she will lose me for a few hours, a night or weeks after d3 is released, but she knows I won't forget about her and I still love her.
Not yet, but I have no doubt that I will be. She's not a gamer, and I imagine that the significant amount of time I plan to spend on Diablo III will have her getting a bit jealous. lol.
I'll be honest, my fiance and I got to know each other through WoW. Granted, I saw her in person plenty of times before, during and after our time playing the game, but I really spent a lot of quality time and got to really know what she was about and vice versa, within Azeroth. I know it sounds corny, but because of that, she has a respect for video games and doesn't really bother me about them, even though she has since stopped playing major games.
I'll admit, we barely ever get into serious arguments, and the most consistent fighting was actually from World of Warcraft. She liked to level alts with me, but I'm the type to level ahead a little because I get really into it and can't wait for her to get out of work, lol. I've always thought that if you are only fighting over a video game and nothing serious, then you must have a pretty good thing going.
Good luck to you, OP. Next time, even though us males will never comprehend the lack of logic females employ in mind-fvcking us into oblivion, sometimes it's just better to throw stuff out there to cover your ass next time.
