I had a great time playing the open beta this past weekend. Whilst playing multiple characters I never had a ring drop. After a quick look around town, I found one merchant that sold rings. What I found strange was after purchasing a ring it didn't disappear from the merchant's for sale list and I could purchase as many of that ring with the exact same stats as I wanted. I checked the AH and as expected saw It flooded with rings with good stats like increased damage + increased attack speed, all of which had high buyout prices. I'm not sure if this merchant selling mechanic is working as intended or bugged but it differs from both D1 and D2 and could easily be exploited for money making.
Rings as drops were removed from beta until later in the game. The whole sale of vendor items on the auction house is purely a side-effect of the beta, as in the full release, the best items will be the ones you find, and the vendor items are there if you've had a dry run and some bits of gear are becoming very obsolete for your level.
To add on that, it is intentional that the vendors have unlimited supply of magic (blue) items. The rare (yellow) ones you might find in a vendor, however, are single-buy only.
The only place you can get rings to drop in the beta is either from the skeleton packs in Skeleton King's room or off some packs in level 2 of the Den of the Fallen.
Otherwise you can just buy awesome ones off Radek the Fence in New Tristram. Like it was said above, Magic items are unlimited supply, to answer your question. Should you ever find a Rare item on a vendor, that will be limited supply.
Thanks for your replies. I realise the best items in game will come from drops however I don't think magic (blue) items will have no value. As the game progresses and merchants sell higher level items as someone posted above they found merchants to sell awsome items. I just feel that coming across a merchant selling a magic item with great stats and being able to buy an unlimited supply of it seems broken. It would make more sense to once purchased have the merchant resupplied with a new random magic item. This would keep with the the current unlimited blues and once off yellows but feel more balanced and more Diablo with randomization.

With my experience so far, the 'perfect' rings (like keen ring of wounding with 5% atk speed and +2-4dmg versions) come up quite a lot. What you can take this to mean is tha, yes, some vendor items might be good, but the people buying them in high stock and trying to AH them wont see much profit when the game comes out because anyone can visit these vendors. Only fools would buy them of the AH.
I also got stacked up on rings there mainly +6 exp per kill to help me fasten the leveling. But couldn't this concep of unlimited blue be exploited in a way for obtaining essences for salvaging?
The blue items on the merchants right now are pretty expensive 1000-2000 gold. You buy one to salvage one component. You need at least 3 components to craft one of the weaker items from the BS. That's 3000-6000 gold. Means you're buying the blue item from the BS for triple the price - and the stats for the crafted item are random. You might not get anything your character needs at all.
Now for the other thing - in D2 you could buy blues from the vendors as well. In Normal it was pretty ok. In the later parts of the game the blue items become much, much more expensive, to the point where you only buy them because they've somehow generating an awesome combination of stats.
I don't see that being exploitable into salvaging all thing on the vendor.

yeah it could but who would buy blue items for essence from merchants when blue items drop very frequently and I think will be dropping even more as we level.
It won't really be worth your time and money to salvage vendor Magic items for materials unless you're in a pinch and maybe just need one more.
Keep in mind the best stuff will still need Rare and Legendary quality crafting materials, and you can't get those from vendors. You might be able to get a Rare every once in a while, but for the cost it might just be cheaper to buy one Rare material off the auction house.
You can also just make a new game and the vendor has new rings. Do this until you got 2 (2-4dmg and +6% MF) rings =WIN!
I dont think you're understanding what Patriarch is saying. When you purchase items from the merchants in D3 the item doesnt disappear from his "items for sale" list. This means that once you find a merchant selling the 2-4dmg and +6% MF you can buy that item as many times as you like as long as you have enough money.
In D1 and D2 as soon as you buy an item from the "items for sale list" at a vendor, that item disappears from the list.
Tinkertank, not sure you got what I was saying and the blue post confirms nothing. Yes by all means resupply with blue merchant items but after you purchase the item the merchants sale list should drop the item you brought and it be replaced with a new one as in D1 and D2.
Keep in mind that judging what the economy will be like based on beta is like predicting the weather for next week by taking measurements for 30 seconds at midnight tonight.

2-4, +5% IAS is better.
