if you think D3 have childish graphix may be you should stop playing video games in your basement secretly and open to the outside world. it is time for you to see all the world's horrors and human cruelty in its pure form, you are mature enough now.
Well I don't have a basement, and I'm a war veteran so I have seen the "cruelty" that you think you know from watching tv.
I never said anything about being scared in a video game. Diablo 1 and 2 were designed to pull you into the world, and there is nothing to be ashamed about with following that path. It's like reading a great book, you get pulled into the portrayed world, all I'm saying is that from the video and screenshots, Diablo 3 feels different than its predecessors.
Thanks for all the responses!
Congratulations on your trolling by the way, you really have done an excellent job. The more toned-down lead-in for your OP really helped, most people make it too obvious by hitting caps lock and going ZOMG TEH GAEM IS RAINBOWS RIGT GUYS LOL I'MMA BUY TORCHILIGT SCREW BLIZZRD. The title was a bit much though, kinda killed it.
A few pointers though:
1.) Try to establish the account somewhat before you start trolling, it makes it blend in a little more. You can see this with some of the guys that spam about 200 posts spewing verbal diarrhea before they make they're first troll topic. The trick is making those posts subtler, like your topic was (minus the title, you really can't make the title a question without giving away that you are trolling, and it's too overtly inflammatory regardless)
2.) Don't counter someone's trolly basement rebuttal with an army vet claim. Rookie mistake, you lose all your credibility. Even if you were an army veteran, whipping it out in response to a cheap insult makes you seem desperate and defensive.
3.) Get an avatar, seriously, having a blank one destroys just as much of your credibility as your low post count. Makes it look as though you aren't established on the forums.
Anyway, good luck, good first attempt, keep at it!
So how was he trolling? By saying the game feels different to him then what he expected in screen shots and videos haha? Glad we got you here to label people. Do me next!

Well I'm not trolling. And I have specifically made an account on these forums to post this question. Some of my friends have already pre-ordered Diablo 3 and I will follow them soon, I just wanted to get this off my chest. It's really the only concern I have about the game, otherwise it looks great!
Yeah how did this thread even get started and where's the sage button? I call shenanigans that you were ever actually scared while playing the other diablo games. I'd believe you if you said deadspace or condemned maybe, but diablo has always been just a pure action hack and slash that happens to have a dark theme, not a creepy "what's lurking in the shadows" horror game.
I think you're childhood nostalgia lens is turned up a little too high

It's different for sure. Diablo 1 and 2 aimed for more realistic textures and colors than D3, like D3 in its infancy shown by molster's pictures. They decided to go for a more cartoony/canvas feel, closer to artworks. And personaly I like it better that way, it has more charm, more uniqueness and will probably stand better through the passage of time.
As for immersion, imo its more a matter of storytelling. I felt pretty detached in D2, the storytelling wasn't good in my opinion, I didn't care at all for the dialogues. I was ok with the main story and cinematics but thats it, I barely looked at the cities more than once or twice and just took the quest looked the objective and went on my way. The same thing I do on wow. On the other side RPG like ME or DAO I listen to everything because step by step I was immerged in the story. D3 is achieving that for me, where their predecessor failed.
If by immersion you just mean the atmosphere while you are in a dungeon, only D1 achieved a creepy atmosphere and I would agree that D3 not that much, but neither D2 tbh.
Stilll... for me the details of the background are good and I can spend a few thoughts admiring some of it, something I never did in D2 and that builds atmosphere for me. Anyway, imo, atmosphere sensation is very very personal, they cannot satisfy everyone in this area.
Just wow. Half way through this video and it's really opened my eyes to what they do with the art/lighting/etc to make it easier to focus on what's important once you get in into the action and heads are rolling. A bunch of little things that all make the difference.
Thank you very much, Molster. Now I'm off to watch the other half.
Yes, it will be too childish. So I suggest you just not play, you are clearly one hardcore motherfucker and video games with anything less than full on gut-spilling rape just wont cut it.
In general I like the "painterly" style-to quote Blizzard-and I think it makes a really beautiful game. some of the gore goes over the top and shocks me out of pure game enjoyment, (really, do yellow monsters need to cover my whole screen with a death star nova of blood?) and the colored lighting of some interior zones catch me off guard when I first see them, but all the outdoor environments are supurb. Now childish is a very strange term to apply here, charicature seems more fitting, but still largley inaccurate.
Edit: Cherub down, Cinimatics are cheating!! XD
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
If that made sense to you, Bravo! I think I even confused myself...
Until you have played Diablo 3 and experienced the amazing eerie sounds and other influencing effects which make the game gloomy and foreboding you can;t really judge it based on screenshots alone. They seriously have hit the nail on the head with achieving one of the coolest atmospheres I've ever felt in a game. Up there with Deadspace and Amnesia.
IDK if it's spoiler but... this room will put to rest your thoughts of the game being childish and I don't think anything can top it atm until game releases.
Sorry but you aren't the huge fan you say you are, get over yourself. You clearly didn't like the series that much if you couldn't be bothered to follow the development for half a decade like many of us here did. And if you had followed the develoment, even just a few times, like an interested fan this question would have never came up. At this point even if you don't have the beta you could still know just as much about the game as anyone else.
Let me start off by saying that I am a long time player of Diablo 1 and 2 and a huge fan. What really immerses me in the Diablo experience is not only the horror lore attached, but the uncertain atmosphere that you live in through your character.
The art style of the environments can add a lot of fear, anxiety and bravery into the player, which is something that concerns me with Diablo 3. Looking at the "art style" if you will, the graphics...the game doesn't have that same horror appeal. And if I can be honest...it looks a little childish to me, almost like a cartoon. And when you have that sort of atmosphere, you can certainly expect some of the game elements to reflect their environment.
Just my thoughts!
Think back to when you first played D1 an D2... over 12 years ago, or close to it. I bring this up because for me personally, being 11 or 12 when I first played diablo had a huge impact on how I perceived the game, not only because I was young and thus more easily frightened, but also because I had NO idea what diablo was. Didn't read any forums or strat guides, didn't even know any friends who played it. Therefore I was always like 'whoaaa wtf is this!'.
If you are perceiving the game as more childish now, or not as scary, it's because you've grown up, gotten older. The graphics imho is the best style they could have possibly chosen; It'l be timeless. It looks fantastic and detailed and has a painted style to it, and never in a decade will people be playing it thinking 'well more realistic games have come out, this one's so outdated!'. This has been true not only for video games but for movies and tv shows as well. Just think about cartoons, they are always classic in their style; Rarely ever changed. Whereas a movie is constantly re-done or re-shot to look better and better because it's going for the realistic look, meaning it degrades over time as better looking stuff comes out.
TLDR; muahahaha it comes out in 3.5 weeks! There's nothing you can do about it now!!!!!! muahahahaha

I'd say no.

I didn't think the game looked too childish anyway, but the comparison pretty much made me even more certain about how others will look at it.

ok nm it's just a random dungeon area.
Wow, for all my hate of dolan, this actually made me lmao. +1 internets for you, sir.
Well when she sees me playing Dead space she wants me to stop immediately so thats another level for sure
