I don't know whether I want to play Monk or DH and was wondering how long it took most people to get a good feel for a class in beta before they knew if they wanted to play it?
In my beta experience, the melee classes feel a lot more fun, as the ranged classes seem to be out of the action a lot more, and busts up groups rather easily (and in a flashy way). The DH damage dealing to groups is limited in the beginning. But she feels more tactical. And probably owns bosses better. It is really a case of horses for courses.
Here is what I would do: Play both to 10 and then decide. This should only waste an hour or so of your time.

I used to shoot people in the knee with arrows, then I took an arrow to the knee.

I was leaning toward the Wizard at first, but I think I'll be going with a Barbarian now and rolling my Wizard second. The person I'll be playing with the most is definitely going DH, so I figured a melee class would give us a better pair.

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.
I figured i'd play the monk but after playing the beta for hours on end i decided the barb. He's more a slash and bash type of character which is what i like. Although i loved the necro in d2 but I just don't like the WD or wizard so barb it is!

I have leveled all the classes multiple times in the beta and I'm still unsure which class to pick

Hm, well I was set on the Barbarian before I got into the beta, and I still am after playing all the classes through to 10. Though I am more open to the other classes now. They all are extremely fun to play, and you won't be disappointed with any choice.
My advice would be to look back on previous games with classes similar to these and see which class you enjoyed the most, and pick the DIII class that is most similar.
Barring that, do what the other guy said and play the two you can't decide between to 8 or 10. That way you already have some time put into the class you decide on, and you already have an alt with some time into it. If you're really into both classes, your time is well spent regardless.
Before beta I was torn between WD, DH and Wiz (knew I wanted a ranged class). After beta I was able to rule out WD, but even hour tons of play on wiz and dh I'm still pretty torn. DH requires much more planning in your movements, but has higher single target damage and sustained damage. Wizard is like a fucking god and is more focused on AoE and burst. Ultimately DH has more options for kiting and has higher damage pay off for doing well, while the wizard can be built for multiple ranges with multiple levels defensive or offensive power. You'll be able to play more different ways with the wizard, but youll have more options for the ranged style of play with the DH.
Really a toss-up and the balance between them wih pros and cons and such is just amazing. Im thinking I'll start with the DH and play the wizard shortly after.
A lot of people say they are committed to only one class. They may think that now, but I expect a lot of people to "give in" and play around with a few classes, if not every class. The classes are just too evenly developed. They all have appealing aspects. That's the beauty of Blizzard focusing on just 5x options.
I think the most OP Diablo 3 class will have a major influence on players once the information becomes the population's consensus. I'm sure that expectations and people's projections will change over time, according to updates and items/build combinations. The term flavor of the month/patch will probably become overused like in WoW.
I know I'll be playing each and every class, it's just a matter of when.
i will probably pick wizard, then upon my first death, rage at being a squishy and build a barb. Then i'll get sick of melee and try dh. I will get bored because its not flashy enough and pick witch doctor. I will die because the mechanics are weird and i will try monk. i will like the aoe damage so much i go back to my wizard. !!!!! this is seriously what i will do i know it

I'm probably rolling a barbarian and calling it "Brynhild" or anything else that sounds like a female viking name or something. And I'll use emotes. A lot.
I like melee in these types of games, at least for PvE I've alwasy loved being surrounded by enemies and just being up ina ll their faces. So I couldn't decide betweent he barb and the monk so I'm going to rolling them simultaneously. I'll be able to make a good judgement on which class is better at what this way. I'll end up making a wiz or a WD next. Although DH has the nicest looking armor it will be the last class I make.

Will also be creating a barb at the start and feeding him gear to play if i need a change of pace from the Monk.
Might have a wizard too eventually. WD, and DH will have to wait.
Whitefire
Yeah, I'm that of a roleplayer.
