Anyone else? I used bash with clobber, ground stomp and rend. I tried him twice and got uttlery destroyed. I didnt even get him to half health. My gear was alright.
You can't just sit on the SK and have tunnel vision. You need to understand the fight mechanics and move out of his AoE, etc. It takes a while to kill him at lvl 8, but you shouldn't be getting destroyed.

This. Beta is very easy with a little bit of game knowledge and strategy.

While OP may be a bit on the inexperienced side we all have to admit SK got pretty good these days! We actually can't just, as you say, tunnel vision him all the way. Need to actually move from the whirlwind now and then and kill a few skellies for the orbs. That is great news! :]
Wish the beta was even harder tbh, when you craft a bit of gear and find decent weapon, you barely ever lose HP.
Being overgeared and overleveled makes content easier in role playing games, that's one of the more traditional features of an rpg.
I'm glad Blizzard didn't risk removing it altogether by making monster level scale with character level - it usually breaks the game difficulty curve and allows for some very bizarre increases in difficulty.
The increase in difficulty will only happen in very specific moments as stated by Blizzard. Some of them we know, the difficulty changes, and others we don't (probably at the beginning of every new Act or right at the end, when reaching a boss).
The beta is not easy if you don't get gear from other characters/AH/crafting/saved-gold, or even if you still don't know which stats are important early on (which a lot of new players don't, considering they will be learning about what's good and what's not). I have shown the beta to 2 friends of mine, and they died 4-5 times in the first few areas because they "never played this type of game" (I quote them).
And even if you're a decent player, with average gear/drops, you can still get your ass kicked by some mob combinations (champion Unburieds, Archers, Scavengers, Harvesters come to mind) if you are not careful.
I feel if I can stick to this strategy, I should be okay... Until I reach inferno ;).
Seriously though, in earlier patches, if you cleraed all the areas, you would be level 10 by the time you reached SK. You should have a hard time if you are "under leveled".

Well the first time I died it was the first attempt at the buffed SK. So i didnt really expect him to hit so hard. I never really payed attention to his mechanics before since he was so easy. I didnt have any crafted gear, crappy armor and a white weapon. My health was probably really low. Anyway, nice too see it isnt to easy.
I agree ... they definitely upped the difficulty of the SK fight. He feels almost like a full boss now,. I went thru with a Lv9 witch doctor and a Lv9 Wizard and both fights took quite a while, and had a lot more moving around, repositioning, and strategy. I think they upped his hp to around 2400 or something around there.
Feels much better, a great change, i think we all agree.
It it a little harder then befor but still no problem killing him... you just need to "play a bit more...".
Anyways, its way more fun this way!!!
I agree with you.
I just ran in there thinking he was going to be a wimp like he was previously. I was wrong. Its good they upped the difficulty. It was way to easy before and ruined the fun factor. It feels good right now for a normal difficulty.

I fully agree with you. I'm glad they tuned SK to make it noticeable when you ignore his fight mechanics. I'm sure I'm going to walk into some boss fights in the future where I have no clue what it's going to do and get smacked in the face hard. It's what makes the game fun. Overcoming challenges drives me.
OP, it's ok to struggle. It means you are learning. Everyone will go through the same thing at some point in the game.
Love the increased difficulty although I still didn't have any problems beating SK with a level 8 Wizard and a level 8 DH. He was so easy before that players didn't really need much strategy and didn't really have to pay attention to combat. Things are different now (for the better) but like I said he can still be beaten with a level 8 char without dying fairly easy if you pay attention to what you're doing
Ground stomp will usually get him to stop his whirlwind attack, which the only thing that does any real damage. Rend the adds. Bash/clobber him and he'll be stunned for a good portion of the fight.

I disagree, I found it very easy.
For the record I did not have beta access until patch 15, I had zero problems finishing the content, I did in fact not die a single time.
I did have to use potions though at certain points, and some CC. Once I crafted a bit of gear, I could just stand still and attack everything, which I found quite lame.
And beginner and stats? All I looked for was magic find, I didn't prioritize any other stat for my Barb, or any other class I've played after.
Crafting is easy and very accessible in this game, there is no excuse for not crafting upgrades even if you are new.
If you haven't played a game like this before you SHOULD die a lot, that's how you learn, but it doesn't mean its difficult, it's just that you are bad since you didn't play this type of game before.
Anyway I would like the game to involve a bit of strategy and thought even though I have some crafted gear, but that might be just me.
Hopefully how it will be in nightmare and upwards, if I can craft a few pieces in nightmare and steamroll everything, I will get very bored.
Ya, I agree with you. Im confident I wont have any trouble next time. I was just caught off guard. I cant wait to try out SK on the other characters now.
Feels good knowing that the dev team swallowed their pride and finally upped the difficulty after the fans cried out about the game being too easy. They reacted pretty negatively and laughed at the fans when the fans told them the game was too bright, right before they finally went and made the game darker.

Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!
This would be the non-skill involved solution: Explore more while leveling up so you are higher level than the content when you reach it :P. I personally will be exploring when I play through for the experience and I think this would help some with new areas as well, won't be as fast but hopefully more enjoyable!
I find it easy, even if it's more challenging than before and so more fun to play.
But having lot of experience in D1, D2, LoD and others similar games is what make it "easy".
No mistakes like being a sitting duck while SK attacks or such.
Learned it the hard way, SK in D1 killed me sooooo many times.
There will be a lot of new players in D3 and first acts normal are going to be like a tutorial for them, which is right.
Also more experienced players will need some practice with skills, gear and game mechanics before challenging Nightmare, Hell and, at last, Inferno.

Kill all the mobs while not die-ing.
