Nightmarish Enemies

Nightmarish enemies really stand out now.

Doing a casual run through the skeleton king with my level 12 Hardcore monk I encountered a group of skeleton archers with a "Nightmarish" boss in the middle of the group. After hitting him a few times It hit me with fear and I started running away. Being the first time I seen this, I was shocked. Well on my way back over to kill it with ease, how it should have been, it does it again. A total of 5 times in a row and it pissed me off. It wasn't doing enough damage to matter or kill me but the fact I ran away and back 5 times in a row before I could touch him was ridiculous.

I'm not sure if anybody else has encountered this but I think one of two things should happen.
    1) The time enemies fear should effect you be reduced or
    2) the frequency fear effects you be reduced.

If I was going up against monsters my level. I undoubtedly would have been killed, and quite unhappy.

Such is the risk of the random monster affixes, but i kinda agree with you. What i would like to see is a swap with the "Jailor" monster type for the duration. So it would look something like this:

Nightmarish: Fears you for 1 second, no control of character at all.
Jailor: Roots you for 3 seconds, still able to attack and drink a potion, just not moving from the spot.
You may be laughing at me because i'm different,
but i'm laughing at you because you're all the same.

Sounds like some serious bad luck; being a ranged monster pack may even make the "Nightmarish" type a bit OP?

I've run into packs of Nightmarish monsters before, and at times, I throroughly enjoyed the challenge!

I don't believe this type of monster champion is imbalanced or anything of the sort, but without really testing it, I do wonder if the "Fear" effect has a diminishing return...

@Feralio: I love the idea of a "Jailor" type monster! Sounds like a great idea, especially for a ranged mob vs. Melee characters (or even to root Ranged characters attempting to run away :) )
Build Courage, when Courage seems to fail...
Regain Faith, when there is little reason for Faith...
Create Hope, when Hope is forlorn...

    @Lord_Scales:

Its not my idea, its allready implemented in the new zones, only the root duration is a second or so. :)

I've only encountered this issue once but imagine running toward an enemy with a melee character. about to swing and boom. your now running half a screen away, you get so close once again and boom. Fear. for the second time. Adding up to a total of 5 times.

I think anybody would agree, running back and forth 5 times before being able to kill an archer constantly shooting you would be extremely annoying. That +being the same level as the monster +mob of enemies = you being really pissed or losing your hardcore character or just dying in general. Either way I wouldn't be very happy.

Isn't cc reduction a stat that can be on gear? Also there are passives that interact with ccs as well, think we need the whole game before a judgement can be made.

Well it's not all about no tactics. Just wait around a corner for that ranged to come close without hitting you and you'll be fine. LOS the mob and wait for it to come looking where you went. Sure annoys you if it doesn't stand a chance to kill you but only to be annoying, but that is one part it might go. Imagine it would not be like this, there would only be "does more dmg" "does dmg on death" "stuns" and "slows" 'cause all these effects are of some sort the same, but they create the illusion of more. Fear stun jail it's almost the same, but please don't complain about the way they put it. It is "modern" gaming, the same crap in a nice looking box that makes us believe it's something else :-) (of course being moved to another place is different from stun, but the loss of control isn't)

"does more dmg" includes: frost, fire, lightning, poison damage. that's all dmg. doesn't matter if it's blue or red.
I hope you see it; grow yourself balls and think - or be feared for the rest of your life ;-)

Soooo much to say on this topic but I hope I won't need to write the obvious? There might always be some sort of mob your class won't be good at, that is if bliz manages to make the game interesting. My point is - brute strength might not always be the way to go. Use terrain and your skills to survive and to skip annoying monsters. If you did and it didn't work out - there is always the rage-quit "alt+f4", every game owns this.

    One word(skill): Dashing-Strike

    Problem solved.

Nightmarish champions are more common that teleport champions now. I think jailor champions are the rarest atm.

    Hmm.. changing skills mid-battle..

    Anyways.
I don't need advise how to kill it which people are responding like I can't play the game.

    The point of this is..

I don't agree with me getting Feared 5 times in a row...

I know the game, i love the game, but there are updates and patches for a reason. theres a beta for a reason. they make minor changes for a reason and my complaint stands. 5 fears in a row is annoying as fuck and i think it should be less frequent.

This seems like a good reason to first play through normal, before jumping into hardcore.
I used to shoot people in the knee with arrows, then I took an arrow to the knee.

When you play hardcore its really not that difficult if you keep an eye on your health and make sure you keep some potions handy. But in further difficulties is where you need to be careful, take things slow. Do a little extra grinding. It'd be much better to end up in an area where your a higher level then you would be if you just stuck to the paths.

Yes, but some new mod on a mob could catch you by surprise if you didn't know what it did. Like Iron Maiden.

Ive come across NM a few times. Imo, its nothing gamebreaking, even when done repeatedly. I personally think its fine as is, but Im sure at later difficulty levels and areas it might mean alot of deaths. Just another challenge we need to overcome, and I welcome it.

Well you made it, did you not?
I don´t think 5 fears in a row, is gamebreaking in the least.

Didn't it force you to change your tactics, and think?

What is so bad about that situation you describe?
Other than you personally getting ´pissed off´, over a few fears?
    I fail to see a problem, game-wise.
Maybe it is just you, that is not a very patient person? :)

I personally like a challenge, and being forced to change my tactics,
will make me a better player. And i feel a greater sense of reward,
when i kill that ´annoying´ or hard-to-kill mob.

Please don't let this be nerfed... Yes, they're annoying packs. Yes, you could die from them if they were your level. Hey, that's gaming for you. There's a chance you might not survive!

Have you ever done a D2 Hell difficulty Immune-pack with Lightning Enchant, extra fast and Fanaticism (to name a random pita combo)? That takes you quite some time to kill at a high risk of dying if you don't have the right element to counter the immunity or a good merc. Suck it up and live with it. 8-)

So, the "it's so difficult, it's not fair" qq started already? Well, OP, since you are so hardcore figure out a strategy.
