As we’re counting down the days until we’re ready to announce a release date for Diablo III, we’ve come to realize that the PvP game and systems aren’t yet living up to our standards. Today, we wanted to let you know that we’ve made the difficult decision to hold back the PvP Arena system and release it in a patch following the game’s launch. After a lot of consideration and discussion, we ultimately felt that delaying the whole game purely for PvP would just be punishing to everyone who’s waiting to enjoy the campaign and core solo/co-op content, all of which is just about complete.
While we work on making sure PvP lives up to its full potential, we hope you’ll find some consolation in the fact that soon, you’ll be having a blast leveling characters, finding items, learning the classes, and perfecting builds…and that when the Arenas do arrive, you’ll be all the better prepared for battle.
When the PvP patch is ultimately ready, it will add multiple Arena maps with themed locations and layouts, PvP-centric achievements, and a matchmaking system that will help you and your team get into fairly matched games quickly and easily. We’ll also be adding a personal progression system that will reward you for successfully bashing in the other team’s skulls.
We know a lot of you are looking forward to PvP, and we’ll be focusing our post-launch efforts on making sure the Arenas are as brutal, bloody, fast-paced, and awesome as we know they can be. In the meantime, we’re in the process of putting the finishing touches on what we think is a truly epic campaign and co-op experience for launch.
We’ll have a lot more info to share on the PvP system in the future, and we look forward to the moment we can get the game into your hands.
This is turning out to be the worst Blizzard launch ever. It's actually really sad how many systems were cut simply because "we feel we couldn't get the game out in time with these features in" I mean comeon they might as well wait because really we're not even getting anything new. I'm seriously becoming disappointed in this release. In 08-10 it really looked good, had a nice flow, all these cool features, and lately they chucked half of the entire game just to "get it out in time" While I agree they need some time restraints, they should completely chuck the newly developed ideas just because they have a time restraint. It just should never come to this. Especially with 7 years of development behind this game.

There were some cool features that were cut previously. The boss death animations was one of the things that made me drop my jaw and it was dropped. The artisan was dropped, but man of his/her features were transferred to different areas of the game. Loosing out on pvp on release is just disheartening. While I believe they will release a better product that I had initially thought Its just a shame that a staple of what made D2 great won't be there come opening day. This development team continues to set this bar of expectations extremely high only to fail on many of these extravagant ideas. I think it will the best game anyone's ever played, but now I almost feel like it has to be or everyone will call it an epic flop.
I saw good things in this post. There is going to be a PVP progression. Nice. PVP is coming, but not right at release. Thats ok, I had not planned on pvping any for the first few months anyway. Not until I got a handle on the classes, some good pvp gear, and some free time. I do feel the game will be released before the end of May, I am hoping for earlier. I know some people are gonna want to be pvping in all white and blue items at level 5 and this sucks for them, but I think in the long run its going to make the PVP that much better and overall better for the PvP community if it gets its proper attention.
They were talking about how the characters weren't balanced in the pvp, and why waste time when the game is already done reworking the characters, while you can do it after a release. It is the better decision for both blizzard and us. By the time pvp comes out, hopefully i'll already have some badass gear to get started with
I saw the pvp update and thought oh great, there goes another 6 months of development time. I'm so glad pvp has been cut for now so the game can come out. Especially since i will likely not play pvp at all anyway.
Cutting systems that aren't working isn't unusual. The Talisman wasn't working, it wasn't just a "we need to get this out the door" situation, it was that the system needed a complete overhaul to be any good, and it was such a small part of the game that it wasn't worth it. Other than that, what systems have been cut that had any significance?
PvP is getting delayed slightly. The game goes gold well before release (3-4 weeks usually, sometimes more), which means PvP will likely get patched in on launch day. If not then, a week or two later at most. You guys are blowing this way out of proportion.
It all comes down to the same old bullshit. The majority of people who fill these threads want quality and they want it fast, but those things are mutually exclusive. The game WOULD NOT BE GOOD if they just "went ahead and released it" at your whim.
I think people are not noticing the most important wording in the post. I'm not getting too excited cause it's Blizzard and it could amount to nothing but. They said counting down the DAYS till a launch announcement, not weeks not soon not near future but DAYS.
I won't hold my breath because honestly if it wasn't for beta D3 is getting to the level of Duke Nukem in the ridiculous amount of time it's taking. I'd almost say it's vapor ware.
As for the subject of cutting pvp. *shrug* Showing my age but this isn't the first or last time Blizzards promised big things and gone back on them. (Hi there WoW dance studios or D2 guild halls) Unless I'm going crazy from the beginning Blizzard wasn't too crazy about any kind of pvp in d3. I did not pvp much in d2 because honestly it was horrible. So lack there of it it is not going to bother/effect me in any way. It will never be balanced if they can't balance WoW's pvp anyone who thinks they can in D3 is fooling themselves. lol
No way that PvP will come fast after the release if they counted on that they wouldn't have taken it out of release so that they don't delay again, they would just move release for 2-3 weeks or however need (from weekly ammount of time), this means they will need 4 months at least imo, if not more till they put it in game. And i really wanted PvP, tho first planned to finish Inferno with 1 character at least, which will be much faster than their implanting of PvP, but better to have game with out PvP then no game at all.
I've been a long time forum scoper on DF and i've finally cracked. I really want to punch the vast majority of imbeciles on this forum, trolls trolling all day long. QQ Skills, QQ Imbalance, QQ Pvp removed.
Now, I see it this way. YES pvp was removed, QQ moar. D3 Was Delayed, If you're not able to cope, you shouldn't be on the forums.
Pvp being removed is a good thing. It means the release is that much closer, maybe still weeks away, but closer nevertheless.
People who are QQing about pvp and how 'omg i want pvp now because i want to pvp' .. that's great and all, but don't you think GEAR > PVP, To pvp to your best, you need the gear? To get gear, you need to PvE in a PvE game, OMG I KNOW SHOCKING RIGHT? ... Now here's the kicker of all the whiners, They say that pvp won't be patched for a few months.. Now heres the funny part. The game is about loot, loot to play better, loot to pvp, yes? to get loot to pvp to your best, you will want to farm inferno, again, SHOCKING!... but all these whiners think they're going to cruise through the game and inferno and be super insanely well geared in the first week of release. It's so incredibly stupid how high your expectations of yourselves are. I will laugh when release comes, and you all expect to cruise through all 4 difficulties in a matter of a week, only to have your 'pvp gear farming' dreams crushed when you can't complete Hell difficulty.
So please, Less QQ about Pvp, its a broken feature which WILL BE ADDED. But first you may want to approach the real angle of the game. THE LOOT. THE LOOT WHICH MAKES PVP BETTER. But silly me, you all think you're so fanfriggintastic that you'll faceroll everything in a matter of days of release.
i understand the pissed off hardcore pvpers, but like the last poster said, were you really going to play a lot of pvp at release? hopefully you're wrong about them packaging it with a later expansion, that's not what the delay message made it sound like imo, where they said they'd be patching it in later. To be honest i was pleased that pvp sounded really fleshed out, with achievements, a good matching system, advancement and ranking, all that goodness. easy for me i guess bc i wasn't planning on getting into pvp until i got sick of the content.
You see stuff like this, and it just kind of seems evident that they just flat out lied thoughout the development process. Its coming soon, its 9/10 done, we could send this out right now...etc...BS BS BS!

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"

Pretty much this. Back in september I think, they said the game was done and needed only some polish. Then after that, pretty much every news on the d3 website was to tell us that they removed something.Pretty disappointing. I mean, I was hyped about D3, but the more I follow it the more disappointed I am. From the RMAH, to removal of the rune system, and now the whole PVP system post-poned (which mean it'll take a few months. Lets be honest, if they removed it from release, it means that theres still a lot of work to do on it).As a PVPer, I'm not even sure I'll buy it on release. I'll probably wait for the PVP update. This suck. I loved diablo.

Ooooh yea
Too much negativity inhere, seems like a knee-jerk reaction.

Its a good thing they will soon release the game, just don't try to rush it. rather wait for a quality game.
so taking out pvp of the released game, to work a bit more time on it, to make it "blizzards standards", suits me fine.

My post on this new development. Why bother double posting about it? :/
