I expect that there will be some in game perks sold by blizzard, or at least given out bundled with other blizzard products. I doubt they would offer anything that actually effects game play. It would most likely be superficial things that augment your character's appearance.
Blizzard will likely continue to use the lightest form of IAP/DLC/Microtransaction in the form of vanity items and out-of-game convenience (web AH, web BNet chat).
I'm not really sure what the product might be to be honest...
Pets? It's possible... But they'll be purely cosmetic, not like the ones that collect gold.
Dyes? Probably not, because this will be one of the better things they can offer with major patches. It's still possible though. There's currently no "camouflage" (green/brown) or "royal" (blue/yellow) or any mix of colors for that matter.
Mounts are out of the question. The world isn't nearly big enough to justify mounts.
I'm afraid they'll do something stupid though - offer gold. As gold now has real money value Blizz can start offering it in the store. This can also be a powerful tool for adjusting the economy of the game on the fly. Hopefully of course they don't do it.

That's the equivalent of a gov't printing more money at a rate that doesn't line up with its current value. We all should know how that negatively impacts current world gov'ts today.

Ah, but you're missing a small fact. Gold is sold. Real gold. And gold is money according to all governments. And so - they sell money for money.
I kind of hope they won't put in these kind of items. Buying power in a game is, in my opinion, never fun. It takes away the feeling of accomplishment when defeating a boss, and i can't imagine running though normal being massively overpowered is either. Put in cosmetic items, that's fine. If people want to spend a few more bucks so their hero will look the way they want to, then let them.
But selling power gives the person behind the computer an incentive to buy that "power" so that his/her character can be stronger then others, which, in turn, makes the other people buy it as well. People don't wanna get left behind much. Brilliant marketing of course, the sheep will always follow, but it won't make the game anymore fun for the players that can't or refuse to buy it.
The same idea works with cosmetics as well though. But then you know that, as a player, you can actually play the game in the same way the "prettier" or "better looking" hero does, you have the same skills, same stats and same characters the one with the real money has, giving you more freedom to buy or not buy the cosmetics.
All in all i would say that, real money cosmetic? sure. real money in-game power? No thank you.

I agree. It would be very unblizzard like if they started to sell exclusive items on their store. It would also make the game a lot more fun as I would much rather have access to new items with an expansion than microtransactions. If they went do this route it would hurt as a fan.
Blizzard has never done anything like that before so I doubt they will. They might add Blizzard items tabs and sell items from there, but I seriously doubt it since no blizzard game has items that can be bought by real money that gives in game advantages to players. They only sell cosmetic items, which has no impact on gameplay...
I am almost certain they will. I bet you after a couple of months special dyes and banners will be available from the blizzard store. I think if they ever add back in pets you will be able to buy transformations (such as the squirrel transformed into zergling).
well only time will tell. lets just hope its just fancy bells and whistles.. and not game changing items like lets say.. "Baal's hell forged nerf bat of doom"
I can't really see them selling anything outside of perhaps vanity items. After stating that they wouldn't be creating items to dump onto the Auction house I can't see how they'd be able to get away with selling in game items on their E-store. It's basically the same thing.
Actually it did just occur to me that Blizzard would have Bnet accounts with people posing as regular users, but actually they're Blizzard employees just manually creating items and putting them in Auction House to make extra money for the company.

Ha. Bagstone.
