So, I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on exactly how hard Inferno is supposed to be. Yeah yeah, I've heard things like it's no walk in the park, you're going to die, etc..
But then on the other hand, there are games (Demon's/Dark Souls comes to mind) that are advertised based on the fact that you will die, over and over again. Relentless, merciless, unforgiving games.
But when you get down to it, some games' difficulty is just based around the learning curve rather than the enemies having an advantage over you. In the end, the right tactic can make things look like it was never any trouble to begin with.
I know that all monsters in Inferno will always be a higher level than you, so that's already giving them an edge over you. What I'm mostly wondering is, will it be a learning curve type difficulty, or will it just be downright difficult because the monsters will have advantages over you?
I'm hoping that the mobs will have an advantage over you. They may out number you and it will take some serious skill to kill them off. You know that a lot of it will be gear dependent, so grinding on lower levels to gear up will be a must.
So, I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on exactly how hard Inferno is supposed to be.
Answer: My thoughts are that Inferno will be hard. ...Supposedly.
I'd say that it's going to be "hard" just like Hell in D2 was "hard." However, the right combination of gear and skills will negate some of that difficulty. What foresight I have tells me that, since you can switch your skills to adapt to any area and the local mobs (if you so choose), the only real hurdle you'll need to get over is finding the gear that gives you good survivability.
Personally, I'm going to stick to a single build with varying damage types so that I won't be forced to swap skills around. So my playstyle may make Inferno more difficult than it will be for others. I also don't plan on getting gear from the AH which may end up being another handicap.
Due to the above, I'd say that Inferno will be a massive challenge to some, a frustrating yet rewarding experience for others, and some will breeze through it and complain that it's too easy. It all depends on how prepared you'll be and what systems you plan to take advantage of.
They have said that the skill system will be easy to learn, tough to master. Chaining things together in the right way seems to be the key here. Survivability in Inferno will be based on your strategy and knowing you class instead of just being able to roll through things. The thing I am most looking forward to with Inferno is the item drops, we will be rewarded for the hard work and the dedication to the hardest mode.
I still vividly remember the first time I ever went to Hell difficulty in D2. I walked out there and was annihilated by a zombie. It wasn't because it was hard, it was because I just was not prepared for it. My gear, in hindsight was lacking, my level was relatively low and my knowledge of the game's mechanics was mediocre.
If my experience in 2 is anything to go by I think how hard it will be for someone will have a lot to do with those same factors. In so saying that they're more than capable of making enemies force you to react within a certain time or die, require a plan going in etc that can make it more than simply my numbers are greater than your numbers.

The content is meant to be beaten. Keep that in mind. Also keep in mind how many people will just play through the first difficulty on a character or two and quit. The game will get progressively harder, but let's be honest here. The more geared we become over the months the easier and easier farming inferno will become. That's just how RPGS with items (particularly ones based around them) are. I'm not saying that you can just mindlessly run through inferno crushing everything- even geared.
If you want a taste of what the game will probably play similar to I suggest you run a google search for "Median XL" if you have D2 and give it a playthrough. That is probably the closest you can get, seeing as how in the most recent version Laz changed it trying to make it feel like D3's proposed system with inferno but in difficulty 3 instead.

Hey nobody knows.
In the end I think Blizzard can make it very difficult the question is only "will they ?".
Also remember that hard differ from one to another, if I find it easy but we are only 5% to finish it... it is quite hard in an objective way of looking at it.
I just hope that they are actually tuning the difficulty around being inferno geared. I personally would like to really struggle through it until I'm geared up, and then when I'm geared up with the items from Inferno, still have to think in order to survive, unlike in D2 where Hell is tough at the start while you're in NM gear and then once you are geared you can just spam your main skill and clear everything without anything being a threat (except for certain champions....and wailing beasts).
If they are making it difficult only for those first entering Inferno, then there's really no endgame at all since once you beat it and gear up it would already be too easy.
Inferno will take some time to get used to, in my opinion. You'll have to learn which mobs have which resistances, what to do at a boss, what resistances to use at act x etc. It will be hard, but I'm pretty sure we'll see people that will try to clear Inferno HC pretty soon.. I for one could not finish Diablo 2 Nightmare HC even tho I played the game for years
i hope that it will be imposible to clear Inferno alone. that you will need to play in 4 players party just to survive fighting with normal monsters and that you will need skills from more than one char. class
This I strongly hope is not the case. It is a multiplayer game if you choose it to be, and want to be involved with other people. But many people prefer to play by themselves. And if D3 if going to be taking elements from WoW in which coordination and boss tactics actually matter, the last thing I want is to be forced into playing with people, who are for lack of a better word, idiots.
Well, it can't be TOO hard, because after all, there are people out there who want to beat the game on Inferno while playing in hardcore mode. I'm sure Blizzard is allowing that to be possible, otherwise, the hardcore crowd is going to be pissed that they essentially can't get to the 'top' while playing that most hardcore of settings. Besides, wasn't there some achievement for beating the game on Inferno in hardcore mode? o_0
Fortunately, D3's difficulty is not entirely like D2's. D2's difficulty was almost exclusively just how hard the monsters hit you. The type of monsters themselves didn't require a great amount of tactics to defeat. In D3, however, it looks like the monsters are designed to require more variety in tactics to overcome efficiently, compared to D2. Sure they'll straight-up do more damage and potentially instagib you in Inferno, but I'm expecting that there'll be more involved in overcoming them besides raw item power on your character.
With D3's current mesh-targeting system, I think it will be very easy to die in the game at higher difficulties. If you get overwhelmed by packs of monsters in all directions, good luck getting out (if you don't have a skill that allows you to run through them or over them, or teleport etc.). Any direction you try to move will result in attacking in that direction.
With Inferno's higher level monsters, AoE, etc. I think that being stuck in a certain area because of the mesh-targeting will end in death.
I really have no doubt they'll make Inferno and Hell really really hard, i mean they promised so many times and also just looking at Diablo 2 when you go first time there with out good gear, remember Hell with out all gear ? Well now there is whole other difficulty which should be a lot harder, so i wouldn't worry about not been hard enough, i am sure they'll make us go crazy.

Not going to happen, Blizzard explicitly said the game will be soloable. It has to be, it's just the nature of Diablo. But the fact that you *can* do it doesn't mean it will be easy.
To the OP: How the hell should we know!?! No one has played inferno yet and don't have much to speculate.
I asked if anyone had any thoughts.
Pretty sure you should be able to know if you have thoughts or not.
It's not like I asked someone to post detailed reports on Inferno's environment.
1 - I hope as soon as we reach lv60 and try inferno it'll be hard as @#$ untill we get GG gear from hell.
2 - I hope, even though we can beat inferno soling, that its actualy worth going multiplayer, cuz i wanna reasons to play with other people.
3 - I hope they keep adding stuff to do after lv60, like they do in WoW, im sure Bliz has stuff to surprise us.
I agree with Ashoto above me. A lot of people will complain that the game is 'too hard', hopefully blizzard doesn't nerf the later difficulties because of this. In fact! instead of making it easier the dev's should be all like "We decided to increase the difficulty because the fans were raging on about it so much, you guys did want it harder right?"
Yeah, that'd be awesome lol
In all seriousness though, I just hope it's hard enough to be a challenge but not too hard that fun goes out the window. Though I trust blizzard, they make amazing games and never disappoint!
