the RMAH shouldnt affect anyone not using it, if a casual player wants to buy his gear so be it good for him, just proves he cant get shit for himself, you wont see any of them, and you wont have to play with any of them, you can have 10x more fun playing with people you know who are as big of a fan as you are.. RMAH has no affect on anyone who doesnt use it,.. but i can see what you're saying, just take a second and realize they way they had the runestone before wouldnt work out, and if they tried to keep it the way they did before d3 would be delayed longer and a riot would start. i dont mind the rune system now, sure i cant pick up runes, but that its just ONE!!!! thing you cant pick up.. and they are being generous even implementing it, its a good system, it can be tweeked, no one knows anything outside the beta, no one knows what will happen in inferno, no one knows what other drops you can get, no one knows the farming process in d3 so no one can comment on it. i think people just need to have a little faith in d3
All that old stuff has been ripped out theres nothing left. The cauldron the stone the cube. The companion scrolls. The runes. Its all gone or changed in a bad way.
It's hard for me to believe that those elements are central to Diablo 3's success. The game is more than just a few neat features after all.
Runes are still there working fundamentally the same way, but with a different means to acquire them. Companion Scrolls...ehhhh, hard to see how that was a game defining feature. Cube and Cauldron were at best elements that affected game pacing, hardly core systems you could base your overall enjoyment on.
To say there's nothing left is a bit on the extreme side of things.
I was also older when I played D1 and all this waiting has made me very annoyed. I reached my top point of excitement just before the release date was pushed back end of last year and I have to say the time spend on anything D3 related has gotten less and less each week.
I have not had a chance to try the Beta but I spoke to a friend who have and he told me there is nothing to worry about, it will be a great ga,e. Only thing is I'm an oldschool fan and I'm not sure how much I can trust someone elses words.
So I've decided to stop worrying or bitching about it and just wait. Not like we can do anything about it.
For the time I'll just enjoy the other good games I am playing atm, which is Kingdoms of Amalur & Dota 2.

the companion scrolls were the dumbest invention, everyone was raging cuz it had no relation to diablo.. the cauldron was removed because what would be the point in having vendors.. which was a good drop, they have portals so whats the point in the stone.. its ultimately the same thing with a different picture lmao, what is so bad about that.. and the runes arent gone!!!!!! when everyone is lvl 60 no one would give a fuck about rank 1-6 runes even when you're level one you want to get to 60 so you dont need to use these shitty level 1 runes, sure you cant pick them up but its really time to get over that

KoA (kingdoms of amalur) is fuckin dope, such a fun game, Dota 2 ehhhhh.. was a let down, if anything that is a bigger let down then d3 will ever be
There have been alot of phases throuhgout development which people have walked away from D3, most notibly would probably be the press event back in August which alot of people decided to walk away from it due to online only real money AH and the sort. Although the most notible dissapointment for me right now is the no offline and I about walked away from it as well but I figured I might as well give it a shot since I always got Diablo1 when my internet is not working or it's maintinence time.

Runes are not still there. They have effectively been taken out. Now you are granted variants of your skills at a pre-determined level progression.
Blizzard is different from Blizzard of old where the first diablo, starcraft was born. Current blizzard has to account for investor vested interest which is why diablo 3 is highly likely to be ported to consoles cuz of the huge market for blizzard. As for the new changes to the runes and skill system, this is the best decision ever made. I notice alot of ppl keep getting stuck over diablo 2 rune system and diablo 3 rune system. Diablo 3 rune system is tied heavily to the skill system... if diablo 3 rune system follow diablo 2's by making it a drop system than IT A BIG FAIL! Your char progression will be halted cuz u dont have the rune(s) u need! Ppl might argue that AH will solve this issue, but than if AH holds u to ransom will u pay real $$? As has happen in diablo 2 where runes are transacted for real cash. This new change will infact be good for the casual player who is not going to have 4-8 chars to farm and 24/7 running games. Its all about fun, making it a job just to complete your build is not fun.

Are you serious? To make an accurate comparison, I have to say that KoA is a huge step up from Fable 3, in terms of story and gameplay mechanics.
OT: To be honest, my interest in D3 has waned a bit since last year. Blizzard is only half right, you won't remember if a game was delayed by a few weeks, but if a game gets delayed (during beta, mind you) for a few months while you watch core gameplay mechanics being constantly changed (again, during beta), then it's difficult not to lose some of that initial luster.
I still want to play this game, but it has definitely slipped down my list of most anticipated games of 2012. And if D3 is released the same week as GW2, then I will play GW2 first.
Y'all are so dramatic. The game is very well made and it's very fun - even if Leoric is getting so very tedious at this point. Well, as much as we've seen thus far at least.
Most the quibbling is over how good part of the game will be. The new rune system is good - it's not the way I'd implement it, but it does work. It has its odd quirks to it, of course. But it's not a bad system, per se. It's not perfect; but you can't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. And I don't even like how they implemented it, but it's not bad. It's just, um, not interesting. It feels handed to the player. It's not compelling.
It's quite clear, from patch 13, that a lot of internal debates have been going on about the runes. This is a compromise between two completely opposing view points. You'll see in a few weeks if they liked it or not. I bet it goes through another iteration (or two) before the game is released.
And the rune system is handled in a way that is currently fashionable at Blizzard. Giving players an illusion of choice; but giving them no real choice at all. WoW did this in Cataclysm and is doing it even more with the completely stupid MoP talent system. So, you shouldn't really be surprised that the runes were handled this way. It's just ... easier. For them.
When the post mortems are done on this game, post release, I think they'll look back at the rune system as a mistake. It wasn't the way to handle making characters unique. And they think they are realizing this already. It's a very unwieldy system that is difficult to manage properly.
Blizzard is different from Blizzard of old where the first diablo, starcraft was born. Current blizzard has to account for investor vested interest which is why diablo 3 is highly likely to be ported to consoles cuz of the huge market for blizzard.
You do know that the first Diablo was ported to the PlayStation, right?
How is finding runestones to increasing the power of your skills different from finding items with +rune affixes to do the same thing?
Rank 1 & 2 runes were available throughout Normal, so it probably wouldn't be hard to have all the rune effects for all the skills in the game by the time you reach Hell. All that would be left for you to do is find higher-ranked Runestones, which isn't really different from finding the right item with the appropriate +rune affix.
As for your concerns about difficulty, it's only the beta...which is the first part of Act 1 of NORMAL. It's SUPPOSED to be D3's equivalent of a tutorial. If you still don't 'get' that by this point, then, well, I dunno.
I agree with your other points, though. There's definitely going to be less community interaction, but it's not a big a deal for me. I always planned on playing with my friends, and that was the way it was for me with D2 as well.
The new UI *is* a little clunky, and I'm surprised that that's what Blizzard is rolling with at the moment. Customisation, however, is going to be big in D3. I think that it's definitely going to be bigger than in D2. And I don't get your point about having nothing to do after you 'beat' Inferno. How is that any different from D2? You'll always be chasing after that best possible gear, and it'll take quite a long time, don't worry.
About a year ago... I was the most excited about a game that I have ever been... We were seeing the skills, the rune system, Gems... Loot... talent calculators... oh man I was so happy.
I even made a diablo 3 fansite, which still gets a few hundred vistors a day even though I have not updated the content in 6 months...
But as I have been playing the Beta... patch after patch... watching features be ripped out or changed... I am less and less excited about this game.
I feel its being made for.... well new players who were probably in 3rd grade when I was killing Baal in Diablo 2.
Community Interaction in D3 will be slim at best. Gone are the days of public pvp games. Games where you could join and test PvP builds in a 100% un-restricted environment. I love that you can't hostile anymore, which was annoying even for a hardcore pvper like me.. but being forced to use the arena for any PvP is annoying. Hopefully they at least have arena options that don't always force you into a random 3v3 match. Hopefully there is 2v2, 1v1, FFA, Testing modes etc.
Say goodbye to trading games as well. While the AH is nice, its one more aspect of the game that removes player interaction and bartering.
The next thing that bummed me out, was adding the % weapon damage to every skill. I loved seeing that skill damage change with every level, every item. I mean my skills will still do more damage as I level and acquire new gear, but if I ever wanted to see the actual damage I was doing I would have to calculate it myself. Kinda annoying considering in things like PvP scenaries, knowing how much damage you can do at the right moment can be essential. Oh well, a little more work required on my part. They could of atleast kept the estimated skill damage on the skills.. at the bottom or something. Plus now the skill will "feel" the same all the time. It will always be a fixed % number. It's just not as fun. I love numbers.
Now they have removed the Rune drops, something else I was looking forward to. I wanted that satisfaction of working my ass off to increase my skills and progress my character and earn my customization. Now that is all removed and runed skills will just be given to me. Even though all the runed skills will still be there, it doesn't feel as customizable as before. I feel restricted to only use what blizz feels I should use, when they want me to use it... at least until after level 51~ when I finally have full access to everything.
I don't want to hear about how the new rune system gives you something to do from 31 to 60.. it wasn't like you were going to be getting the highest level runes as soon as you hit 31. You probably wouldn't even have them all by 60. Oh well doesn't matter now.
The new UI is... bad. It's clunky, restrictive, time consuming... and once again locks you down into what blizz wants. You don't have full access to a hotbar?? Limit the levels I get skills but don't limit what I can put in a hotbar. Don't force me to have a skill on Mouse1 and 2. Let me choose where I want my skills to be placed on my controls. I'm sure the UI and how it functions will change 10 more times before release, or will it?
The worst part of all is even with all the removal of features, the release date keeps getting pushed back. The longer they wait, the more other games have come out... and the more games will come out.
I feel we are going to get a highly streamlined & linear action RPG with very little customization and very little replay value. I don't feel this is the game that last as long as Diablo 2 lasted. I have a feeling that as soon as you roll 1 character for every class and beat Inferno with it, there will be no desire or reason to keep going..
and this makes me very sad.
The new system gives you something to do from 31 to 60.
I gotta say that I am still definitely excited about the game. I assume that a lot of those who are burned out have been in the beta a while. I only got a chance to play it at BlizzCon 2010, skipped it at 2011 assuming it would be out late 2011 or early 2012 and now wont get to try it this year due to Blizzard focusing on it's asian market and leaving those who are not interested in PVP out of their festivities completely. Disappointed with the time it's taking, yea. Not feeling it anymore? Naw.
You will buy the game or you will regret it >:]. A one time purchase for thousands of hours, if not days, of killing time.
-I started playing d2 when I was like 10 or 11 and it didn't stop me from pvping down people who were any multiple of that age. Once your a teenager video games today are all fairly easy, sad to say. I haven't felt challenged in a long time, other than when I'm competing against other breathing opponents and that's why I'm drawn to pvp when pvm gets boring because the script is only fun until you've figured out the gimmick.
-The trading game huh. The trading game of duped items people were making a killing off of with real money. The trading game where people's hack would force an accept on your end for an item switch, or the more common scams where they'd move the item around and quickly throw in a visually identical item...Where they'd want you to play trust games.... Where your character could pop from pvp etc? Where you had to sit and stare at pasted trade spam for hours without finding what you want to sell/buy, while watching 100 games go by without a single hint of a decent trade title...
-I agree with you concerning PvP and correct me if I'm wrong but diablo was the first game where blizzard got to tamper with itemized PvP. In diablo 2 there wasn't any kind of rating at all, but there was some community, albeit small, behind organized 1v1 and 3v3 and such for LOD. Surely they will add more pvp formats if we the fans make a large enough, well thought out outcry over time. I think the focus is more on just polishing up what already exists in the game so they can launch this year (unlike last year), but that still gives us plenty of time to PvM until then. I'm with you about goofing off with pvp and having the option to organize pvp though, all for it and I hope we can get more similar minded people to fight for it.
^At first I was fighting for a rated pvp system but have since changed my stance on that. Starcraft 2's pvp is agreeable enough for me. Items, especially with the addition of a RMAH no less, always leave one player/team with an advantage. Then you have RNG generated from items, meaning that even if two players had the same items, there's no telling if someone's going to get a string of ridiculously good or bad luck with crits etc. Then there's class composition. Putting better items and better RNG luck aside, some classes will just always work better with each other, especially seeing as how pvp is already an afterthought in d3 and while it will get "balanced" I doubt it will get even a fraction of the attention wow gets for pvp balance, despite being vastly inferior to Starcraft which has no RNG and luck can be negated by good gameplay- and it's a 1v1 game so you can balance a simple 3 races (as opposed to 5-7+ classes on a team with each other) much more easily and accurately. So yeah, pvp has its place in RPG's but I think it's too big of a joke to take seriously and have real rankings. Tom foolery and shenz are fine, however. Let's get some private/controlled arena in the game with a patch!
-I'm going to be honest I liked the first runestone system the most, given a few tweaks. But this third system is a lot better than the second at least. Each one of them had their pros and cons. Personally I think they should have kept rune ranks, made all runes available to you at the same time per skill, and then have you level up the runes depending on how much you use them as your character continues leveling up, and then after as well. Well, that's what I think they should have done, to make this new system better anyways. But I'm still OK with it. I've fooled around some in the beta and the runes unlocking here and there does keep the game moving, despite it not being a perfect system.
-Concerning all skills being based on weapon damage, yeah I agree it's a little lame to consider equipping an axe as a caster, but I've become accustomed to just about anything else. Maybe this will get touched up on more in the future so that casters will be more inclined to use wands, staves, daggers and swords specifically. I have faith that ultimately the right thing will happen.
