I have not played the beta yet but I can't help but notice how drastically different Diablo 3 is compared to 1 and 2 when Diablo 1 and 2 were so very much alike. I still have high expectations for D3 but how much different the game seems kind of puts me off a bit and makes me think that a great series of games might end with the third. Does anyone else feel this way? I really hope I am wrong and I probably will be when I finally get to test this game out.
No need to worry chap they have already said they will be having expansions to this so there is hope. And i believe that a game like this wouldn't end without some kind of amazing finish.
Ever since I have watched release content for Diablo III, my expectations have been high because I have simply been blown away. I love the art style, although many don't and I couldn't be happier with the release classes except if they annouced NECRO cough cough. Yeah but I get your point; the direction Diablo III is going in definitely makes me feel uneasy because I'm not sure if it can live up to Diablo II. In the end though, I'm just glad that I will be able to play Diablo, the new one that is
I really have no doubt diablo 3 is going to be amazing like the first two. I see where you're coming from about the differences, which, mostly the look of the game, seem to be an issue with a lot of people.. The style of the game looks awesome in my opinion, I'm only curious about the new mechanics. My expectations are high, but I try to keep a lid on it so I don't ruin the game for myself later on.
I personally can't put my fingers on why people thinks this game won't be as good as it's predecessors. I have watched D3 beta stream probably for over 100 hours and i still can't calm of my hype of the game. It has made to much of an impact on me when even my dreams are only about Diablo 3.
It's not so much that it won't live up to its predecessors, but the fact that it is an entirely different feel and style from Diablo II. A lot of people feel that it won't have that classic Diablo II style and instead have a more modern MMO feel like WoW or SWTOR. Long story short, people want Diablo III to play and feel like how they think it should, when in reality we should all sit back and let the experts handle that.
I can't wait for it to come out, but I am definitely going to miss the graphics style from D2. I feel that the new 3D graphics sort of resemble WoW and don't have that eerie style of D2. Of course, it wouldn't make much sense to use the same graphics 10+ years later. I just love the old game so much I don't want it to stray to far from my favorite game of all time. Regardless I'm sure it is going to be great and I will play hours upon hours every day.
It's been a while since diablo 2 came (was among the first PC games I had the fortune of playing), then did not have much knowledge of English so the story made me complicated at first, then went back to play and be surprised by the excellent story and gameplay.
although the wait was much, I return to the analogy with the wine (as time passes, their quality increases). this is how I have good expectations about the game and I want to play it and enjoy every bit and pixel on it.
sorry for the English, but it is not my native language.
Yes your right Diablo as we know it will end with D3.Not becose its going to be bad but becose Blizzard has stated that this will be the last Diablo game of this type. I am not going to go back and watch all the Blizzcon vids but I remember that they stated in 1 of the panel vids(2010 I think) that they are going to end this current Diablo style game.
They did say however that it would not be the end of the story for Diablo and this makes me think MMO in the future for the Diablo name. And no its not the Titan project they are working on now as its a all new IP.
@Zealot, thanks for that comment! Makes me feel better, BUT
I'm probly one of the older guys on here and one of my best memories regarding games is from Diablo 1. I spend so many hours playing it.
I'm from South Africa and back in the days of Diablo 1 there was no ADSL here, just normal dailup modem that you had to pay per minute costs. It was crazy expensive and I spend many many hours playing with the international clan I joined.
Same went for D2
I have already pre-ordered the CE (this is so obviously my fav game) but I still wonder what I'm actually going to think & feel about the game as I'm an old school fan. I seriously hope to be able to try the game out before release.
I'm so used to downloading and playing demo's before buying, like I recently did with Kingdoms of Amalur. Awesome game btw for those who want something to play till Diablo 3.

Well judging from the videos, I'm sure diablo3 would last more than a decade like it's predecessors. I'm sure the devs are working their ass off into making the game as much as enjoyable as it can, I'm ok with waiting for more months. I'll be consuming my vacation leaves on diablo marathon when it's released
My expectations are high but I know blizzard will come though they take their time witch sucks but in the end they will release something that will be epic just like they said you will forget how long it took to come out bit you will remember how epic it was. Although I'm frustrated with the push backs but I'm sure it's all going to be worth it in the end. Just wish I had that time machine.
You're definitely right, the first two games were amazing and it's a little scary to see the third one deviating from them in many ways. I guess what it really comes down to is faith in the company. The WoW expansions have been good, and I feel each one has improved the game significantly, despite the inherent deviations from vanilla. I trust that Blizzard will do the same for D3, and improve what can be improved, change what they think can be successfully changed and keep the core systems that we loved from the first two games.
My expectation is that they will improve on what went well for them in D2 while taking a decade of constructive criticism to improves areas that needed it. Maybe that's wishful thinking but I have faith. The point and click ability mechanics look improved in that you have a visual interface when switching between spells. Graphics look great from what I've seen. D2 was always a little clunky at times.
Of course, I am not going into it with the expectation that every detail will be perfect as I envision it. We all have different ideas of what the perfect D3 will be and I think that the bottom line is that it will be a great step in the diablo series.
