1. Blizzard started to hire new workers for an diablo project. They are doing this for over one year now.
2. Diablo 3 doesn't got any "big" Content updates for a while. So maybe they are working on something bigger because they are indeed have people hired for this (see 1.)
3. We all have seen the artwork for the druid or some nature/animal themed hero in a company video on youtube, you can see it on the screen of a worker.
4. The "Muddied Parchment" from the PTR and the "Fiacla-Géar wings" are also hints towards the Druid.
These are the realistic hints towards a new game or expansion but it is a little bit confusing and you can't really guess what will come up.
But now suddenly everything makes Sense to me IF the themed Seasons are actually a hoax. This double goblin feature needs maybe 30 min of work, so they can't have worked for the last months on this feature :D. But what they can do is:
1. Designing a new Diablo 3 Logo:
2. Don't write the name of the Expansion below the Logo.
3. Announcing season "themes" and calling the first one "Season of Greed"
The most addons or games are following this syntax:
[WORD] of [WORD]
Season of Greed does this too ;-)
Blizzard releases season themed consoles and notebooks? Why would you do merch for a season ? Something that lasts a few months? Why can't I buy these? Maybe because they wont get shipped like on the images above, maybe they are coming like this:
Hmmmm, a part of me can't honestly think that this would be the next expansion. Unless you are saying that this current season's theme is as much of a content boost we're ever going to get in D3, then sure.
I'd like to believe they are testing out new tech/meta/themes in order for a new installment in the franchise to work.
You can check out rhykker on youtube. Hes watching blizzard with scrutiny. One of his theory is a new diablo game under preparation due to mass hiring.

The first jobs listed were over two years ago at this point, but the one that was most telling was for a Production Director last June which included "massive multiplayer game development experience."
Of course that doesn't have to mean it's an MMO, but... The iron would be mighty hot right now. The once-bloated western MMO market has become very hungry and has nothing on the horizon.
Not that I'm really stoked about the idea. Cramming tons of players into a horror environment really dilutes it.
You are breaking my heart, I'd love that to be true but can't believe it before I see it. Interesting that there's new D3 logo there considering how little new they have added since Necro.

rhykker is a well know clickbait nonsense whore and everyone above 14 or so can understand how ridiculous is that tool that trash talk from 2 years about his D4 bullcrap. Any reasonable mind that have even a minimal videogame development understanding know that we will get new classes and prolly a new xp and that d4 is not even imaginable before something like 2022+ if will ever exist.

While new class is likely, I have lost my faith in a new expansion as the game is 6 years old.
Then again, a huge graphical and mechanical overhaul could be enough to sell an expansion to masses. Wow has had significant graphical engine updates with expansions. It's possible they could do the same for D3 in order to spare the huge work of doing everything from the scratch like inventing 5 new classes and 4 new acts.
Sure, players who dislike D3 hate the idea of continuing with D3. However, Blizzard knows better how masses react and those who play the game through only once.
But are majority of playerbase nothing more than those who play the game once for the story? If core players who wish to play Diablo for years are 1 million players out of 15 million purchasers, it is not hard to calculate which weight more.
The only thing that keeps the expansion/new act/new game hope alive in me is that it has never before, to my knowledge, been Blizzard's M.O. to scrap hard established characters and story lines from previous games. Yeah they've messed with canon in games like Warcraft, but not to the degree of scrapping. It seems like most people (or at least a vocal group) don't want an expansion, and just want a Diablo 4 while pretending D3 never existed. I find this pretty unlikely.
It's certainly a bit late for an expansion, but I'd be happy to have one, but also think it's FAR too early to expect a completely new game because they would have to start over from nothing and build from the ground up. D3 isn't "dated" looking by any means. I don't claim to be any kind of expert on game creation or design, but they have tilesets and textures they'd have to scrap and begin again, and after already putting in all the work, seems a bit early to toss all that away. I'm confused why people think it already needs a graphics upgrade.
I feel like there is more evidence for a remastered Diablo II then there is for Diablo 4, but again, I'm still hoping for an expansion (with better writers) because I'd be disappointed if the story line and characters that have been set up for us never reached their conclusion.
EDIT: a friend of mine who is in the industry gave me some interesting perspective on how quickly games have to develop to keep up. I was under the impression that companies with tons of money had more luxury of time, and while this is true, we likely would have gotten the expansion 2016/2017 if they had intended to do one. So it seems D4 is more likely than an expansion, but I'm still suspicious about remastered D2

I agree that there's prolly no D4 before 2021.
Well, here's the thing. WoW is actually still making them money. whereas D3 isn't. So imo, little reason for them to make another expansion as D3 has taken to long to improve at all (which caused it to lose the majority of the playerbase) I'd say the more reason to make D4 or whatever it'll be called. Not saying this will be soon or anything (that's just hoping). But it's a way to have sort of a fresh start and possibly get back the playerbase it deserves (and hopefully release a more complete game from the start on)
Idk, if anything will revive a playerbase, it's new content. A lot of people came back to play Necromancer, and that was just one class. WoW does have a subscription, which D3 does not, but D3 made its money on volume of copies sold, and D3 Vanilla sold 12 million copies. They aren't really hurting for money, but I think it's possible that blizzard will try to introduce some sort of long term income generator (loot boxes or something similar?)

I hope it's Diablo 4 and it's better then 3.

‘I'M NOT LEAVING UNTIL WE ALL HAVE AIDS!’—The importance of calling them ‘mercenaries.’
I want d4 whit all new classes, new skill system or old skilltree, sets what dont force you use fixed skills, awesome story mode and epic end game.
"Nonsense but I believe"

Ya, but we killed Greed for now.

I mean most likely Season of Greed isn't an expansion name but new logo and marketing laptops for a 6 year old game are interesting notes.
