Inferno is there for players who are either hardcore D2 vets or become hardcore after enough playthroughs of Hell in D3. It's the first mode of its kind in a game like this where you are now unable to outgear/level the content. It promotes longevity and closes a backdoor many casual players use to overcome obstacles. Outside of expansions for new zones, the only thing I can ask for to improve on the PvE endgame is coding more random events and mobs.
are you being sarcastic too? NM is only a bit harder then normal. and considering normal is a complete joke you wont die in nightmare unless you suck. they promise you will die eventually out of the entire game and in inferno. they said NOTHING about dying in nightmare. the guy in the vid who played said he died once in nightmare lol. and i still think i can play through without dying. i hope blizz has a "amount of times died" as a statistic so i can prove it.
I suggest you go back and watch the video again, as you seem to have forgotten what was actually said. The guy in the video simply said he died in Nightmare, he said nothing about how many times. The other fella said people will get their asses handed to them in Nightmare and above. Based upon that, it's quite clear they died multiple times in Nightmare. One doesn't say something like that while casually strolling through a level.
I think nightmare the more casual gamers /diablo players will die, for most people posting on this site, thats not the case at all (will not be dying in nightmare much). The video has to be presented for all player types. I think inferno is where we will be really getting hit.
Because people posting on this site are somehow better at D3 simply because they are here? Please. What does it say when people that work on the game are dying in Nightmare? Feel free to base your opinions on absolutely nothing but guesses. We'll go by what people that have actually played Nightmare have said.
Ultimately whether you live or die will depend upon gear. As they've said, chances are we'll need to run through Hell multiple times in order to get good enough gear to have any chance in Inferno. While not necessary but certainly logical, running Normal multiple times will increase your chances of getting better gear and thus increase your chances of survival in Nightmare.
Developers are notoriously bad at the games they develop, usually when there's some demo being shown on a big projector and one of the devs is playing the game they click like they have digital downs. I'd be willing to bet that players here on average will be more skilled than the average player not a member of the site.

i lawl at your niavety bud. for the D2 veterans here we know how hard nightmare will ACTUALLY be. and it will still be a breeze for ppl who arent stupid/scrubs.
i will post my first playthroughs of NM and hell and show how hard its not.
I'm starting to get sick of your cocky - know it all attitude. You act like you are some gaming-GOD sent from the cyber-heaven to enlighten the world.....
Your shit still stinks man... get over yourself please.

Unless you have proof the guy is a progamer his comment only means some people will die in Nightmare.
More so, there are 4 difficulties, Blizzard wants them to scale well. It would be terrible design to have an easy Normal mode and then something extremely hard.
Not sayng I will NEVER die in nightmare either, but I don't believe it will be hard like SMB hard.
New random pieces of architecture, more random events, new skill runes needed to kill some new type of mobs effectively, new attack types and tactics for current mobs, new destructible elements which can kill mobs, other types of PvP (capture the flag ), cow level, special events, new achievements, new death animations for mobs, new artisans, cool pets who can help tracking unique mobs, secret places, more co-op modes, like kill diablo before end of the world (about x number of in-game hours). They should also in time, make skills look equally cool (and all should be useful) so every skill is loved by players. This would made even more unique builds available. Oh, and after a while if some character types are not loved enough they should change their animations or completely redo their art so they are loved equally as other types.
So yeah, lots to do beside frequent expansions and new difficulty levels which they should do a lot as everybody wants them and will pay for them in reasonable time intervals.
Ah, I've almost forgot. They can add new character types, like they did in D2 (which will be good as far as wizard chick stays the coolest next to barb ).

<.< NM is pretty easy if you know what you are doing... hell is where the trouble starts (clean chars that is)
this is why inferno is gonna be awsome i love the thrill of almost dieing
----
just gota add, this dont mean i will "faceroll" thru NM in d3 the first time im there. (but i aspect to do so thru normal and then start my HC chars) but i can do NM in d2 kinda easy

What's kinda funny is if you watch that "you will die" video (the longer version from Blizzcon though). The dude says that 70% of items only drop post normal, right?
Well, 75% of the game is post normal. So, really, there is slightly less itemization post normal than in normal itself. Which is a weird thing to tout.
I'm just sincerely hoping that it doesn't end up like diablo 2 where, while hell difficulty was hard, there was always the lightning sorc or poison necro with the best gear that could clear it all no problem... If blizzard thinks it takes 4 difficulties to get the players to 1) be committed to more than just casual fun and 2) work together as a team (which, let's be honest, rarely happened in diablo 2 except when using some hell unleashed mod), than i think inferno mode is an exciting new approach they're taking.. I've always been eager to play a diablo game where the "lone ranger" is screwed, and where team effort and coordination is actually required to do well! Blizzard knows what they're doing, and if they don't they'll patch it xD

lmao? poison was THE worst element in D2 because 60-70% of all mobs in hell were poison immune. even with infinity merc + resist curse you still couldnt kill shit in hell with poison

Um, just because someone works on the game does not mean they are great at the game, im not sure where your getting that from? (artists have no more or less play time than anyone else, they dont work with the AI coding..ect) The point is people working on a game come in all levels of game playing skill. The people viewing this site, are more than your avg Diablo player. Its rather safe to say a good deal of the hardcore people here wont be having issues in nightmare.
They are going to hype the video, that much is simple, its what PR does. Nightmare will not be hard for hardcore diablo players, it will be harder than normal. Inferno is where the funzies is going to be, and where I cant wait to die on a boss over and over (oh how I hope they are really that hard)
After you are max level and have collected pretty much the best gear you can get and you can run through hell difficulty with ease, yeah an inferno difficulty will keep you busy after all that.
Four difficulties is good. Normal ought to have been labeled as "Easy", but I can understand why Blizzard went with the current label instead (psychology and all that). So, outside of being technical, it could be said that there are really only 3 difficulty levels since "Normal" doesn't count for much.

ya exactly. i think of it as a dumbed down tutorial of the game not an actual difficulty

When I first played D2 I remember normal as quite normal difficulty. You could actually die if you played to carelessly. And some unique mobs could surprise with burst of lighting coming from them every time they were hit, like that first boss below the city in Act 2. But I was young and very new to this game back then, but still normal was normal for me who was not very familiar with mob abilities.
I never really played NM in D2 as any item which dropped there for me looked exactly the same as items on normal level. It just had slightly better stats, but no visual difference either in inventory screen or on my character. Changes was just to small for me to bother back then. I had a lot of japanimation to watch But D3 seems like something much more exciting especially that boss runs may be redundant.
If they made it subscription based we wouldn't have to worry about content, but it would become WoW. We would rather like some difficulties which are skill based. I think inferno is quite good enough if it is difficult even with great gear. Not that I see myself ever finishing it, but who knows if game-play is superb I just may try hard enough.
I think inferno is only a necessity due to how D3 is built (i.e with normal being extremely casual/easy) - however, I do not think it is an elegant fix to the problem in general. Adding another difficulty to the same content really doesn't change the game all that much.
Now, if you like the grinding game, then it's perfect... Personally, I tend to be finished with a character in Arpg's once I have cleared all content/all difficulties.
I think they will need to build out game-modes as time goes on... Dota / Survival-horde / CTF / KoH (king of the hill) etc etc etc would keep us grinding for top end gear as their would be an added incentive then.
I doubt we will get anything like this though...
huh? diablo is ALL about farming content over and over for the best gear. if you stopped playing D2 after you completed hell you would quit in a day.... lol

d2 got boring once you had good gear (perfect is VERY hard to achive)
but d3 wont, it will still be challangeing even if you got imba gear
