I know we've heard this and similar complaints etc. a million, trillion times before but it must be noted....WoW should not even come into any form of contact with the Diablo design franchise. Diablo should never EVER have MMO style inclusions. The words "WoW" should NEVER be mentioned in any Diablo related topic or even through the design process even in house at Blizzard. Blizzard should have begin making Diablo as an original game...they just couldn't stay away from the MMO style of gaming...
It was tragic that Blizzard North left....because when they pulled the pin, unfortunetly Diablo followed and we were and are now left with the WoW team to work on our long awaited sequel....of course they are going to add their touch (WoW) touch to the games they design. No matter what game...it's just the way they roll....WoW is all they know! It's what makes them the most $$$. Good bye SIngle player option....Blizzard is just moving away from this as we seen in SC2 and WoW...once again thanks to WoW! Good bye Nitty Gritty dark graphics and light radius....Good bye Horror/Dark gore.....Good bye Stat point originiality......Goodbye true character diversity......I can go on and on.....yes the current game looks good....and yes I will still buy it regardless, and play it....but still....... all I can say is RIP old Diablo. We may get a good game soon (Diablo3), but we may never ever see a truely Great game that Diablo once was.....
you say its like wow, care to draw some key points? other than "Good bye Stat point originiality......Goodbye true character diversity" which is not the case.
Blizzard is not only a part of diablo, they made diablo what it is today. North wanted diablo to be a turn based claymation rpg, blizzard changed that. I for one would not be in love with diablo if it had stayed the same. Take a look at the 2005 D3 screenshots that North wanted. Terrible. they looked almost worse than D2, and I loved D2.
Not only is Blizzard moving Diablo in the right direction, it's because of direct action from Blizzard that we love diablo the way we do today, even D1 and D2.
1. Not sure if that's a typo, but wow never had a single player option.
2. nitty gritty dark graphics were because of an extremely limited color pallet, and even more limited computers that customers used.
3. light radius was almost completely taken out in D2, so not really sure where you're going with that. Half + of D2 you couldn't even notice if you had light radius on. Also, you haven't seen 1/100th of D3's dungeons, which they've stated change from well lit (the cathedral) to dark.
4. Stat points actually gave you less options, because you were committed to them. D3 you choose your stats by choosing gear, giving players more options.
5. Character diversity? D3 is using the 5 basic archetypes, and actually have made them far more interesting than D1 and D2 imo.
Uhh... That's pretty extreme and equally asinine. WoW has a ton of Diablo qualities included in it, and they both draw their basis from DnD formulas, so I'm not sure where this rant is going in the first place...
Please innumerate your points individually so I can disprove them all one at a time.
Also, would you like me to reference the work of the artists behind wow?
Do you really think those individuals can design elements relating to wow, and wow only?

I've never seen those... care to link?
i admit I've never directly added pics. Just go to google pics and type '2005 diablo 3'
Edit: Looks like an exp pack for D2 huh? And what were they thinking with that angle.. And the colors, I can't tell where the toon is half of the time.
Diablo 3 might easily end up as a crappy game, there certainly are many things I don't like about it so far, but it wont be because of some imagined WoW influence.
What the hell does 'MMO style of gaming' even mean? MMOs can have all sorts of styles or mechanics, but Diablo 3 clearly isnt an MMO.
"diablo is like wow"
"diablo has no customization"
"diablo isnt diablo because its online-only"
"diablo with RMAH is greedy"
"im no longer buying Diablo because its not out yet"
or of course "diablo is exactly like wow with no customization and because its online-only because its all about the RMAH and im no longer buying it because of that and its not out yet"

Exactly! I keep hearing people say this, but I'm still waiting for these people to make a ligimited claim other than, "are you blind, it's so obvious, stop trollololin!!!" which isn't a very good answer.
The art looks the same?
Well, it is one company with artists all over the board.
They dropped stat points?
Some other games don't have stat points either, is Blizzard copying Final Fantasy now as well?
No more diversity?
How is that even WoW related? Because WoW constantly simplifies the talent system? That has nothing to do with D3! You can still pick what skills you want (just like you were forced to do in D2), and now you can diversify the functionality of your skills through runes. Could you do that in D2? No.
Blizzard North did not leave on their own accord, the studio was closed, and the majority of employee's were shit canned. It's that simple as that.
Management disliked what Blizzard North was doing, hence starting the game from scratch and reintegrating bits and pieces of the original D3 into the revised version.
Not to mention Warcraft and Diablo have nothing in common, the genre's are completely different. However, would it be bad for the Diablo 3 team to import some of WoW's mechanics into the game? I doubt it. WoW is the most succesful MMO of all time.

I am so sick of people wanting D2's pile of crap mechanics. Somehow, these fools think that putting enough str or dex to wear gear and stacking vitality is the best design ever made for gaming. We need a "Can't Let Go Of The Past" sub-forum so people can cry about stupid crap that would only make the game worse.
EDIT - I think people from the Blizzard forums are finally starting to creep into the Diablofans forums in greater numbers.
There should be a mandatory IQ test before you're allowed to post on forums.
But half the fun is reading what the idiots post :(.

I'm a relative "newcomer" myself (since like a few months ago). That being said.. hold onto that because.. yes, ofcourse, they will start flocking here. This site WILL get loads of new people signing up in the coming months and after the first months of release especially (and ofcourse will keep steadily growing after it too). It's just bound to happen. More valuable posters, but yes indeed, also more invaluable posters.
It's never a bad thing to get newcomers...unless they have the mentality of an 8-year old in an adult body. I only mention it because the General Forum is being infiltrated with the same "make it like d2" threads that are spammed on the official forums and it's rather annoying.
I honestly like the way Diablo 3 is going. Also, why do so many people hate WoW with a fiery passion? Yeah, it use to be better then it is now but sweet lord people just act like WoW ate their babies and kidnapped their dog.
I just love when someone makes a topic describing his thoughts and then doesn't bother to asnwer any of the replies
shall i answer for him?
i...errm...hummmm...ohhhh.....oh yes, im sorry i didnt do my research, i didnt realise that the wow team and the diablo team are not the same
also i didnt do research on diablo at all, i read that diablo 3 was in the works around the same time as vannila WoW so there was two teams
theres more, wow makes other stuff than wow, you guys ever hear of star craft? blizz makes that too, i know who knew
so ye im sorry for this, wikipedia is not the best for info
I think you are minimizing the poster's completely valid arguments. This game has swords. It has magic. It has seelctable skills. Random number generation determines some of the things that happen. There are giant shoulder pads. It is not in 8 bit color. This game practically is WoW and you know it....
And no, i'm not being sarcastic. I'm completely serious!

The whiny morons are a dead give away that it's a blatant rip off of WoW. I can't believe they had the gaul to include morons in Diablo.
