Anyone else out there wondering if the cancellation of gory death sequences might also be related to a general pullback in gore as they prepare to release in places like Germany and China?
We already have no boobage, unlike D2. Will we see some more "streamlining"? Anyone wondering if the ghost queen execution scene will get pulled, for instance?
The thing thats annoying me about practically all your posts is that you are all saying that the monk is missing their animations....
Just because he doesn't use weapons in his attacks doesn't mean hes missing his animations... it means his animations don't use weapons. Do you guys seriously not fucking remember how many blue posts have been made regarding this and how they purposefully wanted the monk to use their fists for attacks.
This was initially INTENTIONAL... the only reason they referred to it as missing animations is because people bitched enough that they changed their mind.
This isn't a lack of foresight... this is a lack of time in doing what the public wants.

So you think the "Weapons out, ready to attack! Use a skill! Weapons Holstered!" is a real animation? And even if they want the Monk to use his Fists... then he should keep his Weapons holstered and not make them magically appear between strikes. Thats just ridiculous. I would have no problem with the animation if the weapon stays holstered all the time... its that insta-weapon-teleporting thats annoying. Also IIRC the whole "He uses his Fists" thing is from the time when he only had Fist Weapons and Daibos... and even then the insta-weapon-teleport is there for the Daibo.
i'm not argueing that the animations are good. I'm saying that they were intentional and are not blizzard being lazy or just fucking around and not getting to it.
Yeah I noticed the Wizard does this as well. When uses a skill to attack weapon is holstered. and moves hands with nothing in them. Looked a little cheesey.

Did you even read what Bashiok said?
"We’d love, for example, to have the monk display his weapons during all of his skill animations. But it’s an enormous animation and effects investment to get it done, and we have to weigh all of these things against other features and polish."
You can say "intentionaly cut the feature", same as mystic, scrolls, etc. They ran out of time, and getting all the things they planned done, would require many months if not extra years.
How long do they want? They have had, erm... Years! I cannot understand why this game has taken so long to develop. Given they are implementing battlenet 2.0 and the RMAH but other than those 2 things it isn't that much of a technology or systems leap from diablo 2.
There is something up with the production of this game imo. To go from a short beta to an extended one, scrapping and revising major systems when they stated just before releasing the beta that it was ready barring a bit of polishing... It all just doesn't add up in my mind. Weird. Anyway... Lets hope they do finally release it and then use the patches to make it more than a diablo 2 expansion.
I understand the whole view on the Skill/Weapon animation thing but in all the time ive been playing beta at no point have I stopped stared at my toon and said "omg his weapon disappears during skills".
I don't see the issue, also I'm playing hardcore so I have no need for death animations.
We’d love, for example, to have the monk display his weapons during all of his skill animations. But it’s an enormous animation and effects investment to get it done, and we have to weigh all of these things against other features and polish. A lot of the skills we could improve have multiple animation sets, multiplied twice for each gender, and then multiplied by each weapon type he can equip. That can be 40 or more unique animations, and then there’s a full FX pass, approvals, QA testing, etc. etc. and that’d just be for 1 skill.
I say, just give us some lore on how the monk actually just uses the weapons as a focus to increase his hand to hand effectiveness (I think DnD 4th ed has something like this - if I recall from my shardmind monk), have the weapons permanently on his back, and be done with it. The most irritating thing to my eye is that he puts them on his back before hitting someone, instead of just leaving them on his back.

i don't care about Death animations and for the monk animations, they should make the monk keep his weapons sheathed and fist weapons should appear in animations also they should make him use his daibo instead of his "spirit..holy imaginary??" daibo if he has a daibo equipped like in tempest rush and serenity.
then after release they add some skill animations using his daibo, and they are not that many, cause they either use his fists or just him clapping.
skills that don't need daibo:
fist of thunder, exploding palm, WoTHF, blinding flash, breath of heaven, Cyclone strike, inner sanctuary, mystic ally??, all 4 mantras.
skills that almost require no effort to add daibo to it:
tempest rush, serenity (explained above), lashing tail kick, dashing strike and SSS (*just make him hold the daibo and that's it), wave of light (use basic daibo attack to hit the bell).
skills that need animation:
deadly reach, crippling wave and sweeping wind.
so easy way require just 3 skill animations, but of course they can do it the hard way and make him use his daibo even in skills that are just claps so he hits the ground with the daibo or wave it etc.
I still have this weird feeling....they realized too late they had completely f....d up the whole game and are now rushing to setup a decent one.
They know what they are doing, I believe its a matter of time. They must release the game now, and stuff like these will be fixed as long as the people says its "flawed", Blizzard do not like "flawed", it goes against their policy.
Barb getting his head bitten off looked really cool. Still, not terribly sad that it won't make it into the game. But who knows, maybe in a future expansion.

Even if it is complicated (which it is) to integrate what seems like minor stuff like animations for weapons, it's still a big deal. And while you could argue they COULD do just 1 or 2 more animations before release, personally I'd rather get a release sooner and Blizzard finish all of the animations at once =D
Why the fuck is this EVEN an issue Blizzard? You didn't program in Death Animations from bosses? You didn't give the Monk all his fucking animations? What is WRONG with this company? What kind of triple AAA company does this? And says they don't have enough time and money to animate a characters attacks, or give us what they showed us in 2008?
What the hell is even going on at Blizzard? What could they possibly have been doing for the past 4 or 5 years, really? This game is looking more and more outdated now. They want to launch a game where the Monk isn't complete and the death animations are just gone because they ... Cant invest time in it? What the fuck? How long does it take? 10 years?
Finish the game. I don't want a game released without animations. I don't even want this game anymore if it's not done. This is not the Blizzard I know at all. The identify and town portal animations make no sense either.

Jaysus. Ok, stay with me here.
1. *Core* game mechanics are vastly > aesthetics such as animations. Such being, those core mechanics need to be worked on and finished first.
2. They never said they don't have the money to finish these, but it IS a time restraint. Building a game as in depth as D3 (and don't let it fool you, this game is very much so in depth and intricate. Unfortunately the hack and slash skin makes it look simple). The major and even semi major systems only JUST got finalized as far as creating them goes, maybe 6 months back if not sooner. Now this is where it gets complicated; Even Blizzard doesn't know what works until they put their whole heart into it and try it as much as they can.
There's no reason why Blizzard would cut what they have that doesn't have to do with being realistic. Even though it's the rumor, lol, Blizzard doesn't like to disappoint. Features such as death animations take a LOT of time and effort, and in the 2008 trailer they were NOT in place. That was a scripted sequence in which coders had to type while the game was being played live, to make everything work. 5 classes * 2 genders * Y bosses (since there are rumored to be at least, what 12?) = ~ 120 + animations. That's a lot of work.
3. It's ONLY been ~ 4 years, that's not unrealistic when it comes to such an in depth game, especially when working with a smaller dedicated team. (Plus they got pulled off to work on SC2 for almost a year IIRC).
4. The monk is very much complete, and until beta their vision was to have him use his fists, not weapons to attack. Hell he was only going to be able to use the diabo and fist weapons for a while. After user feedback they decided it would be cool to put in weapon animations, but again do the math. 2 genders * what, 8 weapons he can use? Then multiply that by at least 2-3 variations of an attack with each weapon. Again something they just decided they wanted, but they know realistically it needs to be held off.
5. Identify animations are just using the town portal animations as a place holder, as far as I know, considering the user ID feature JUST got put in. AGAIN with the math, that's another 10 unique animations needed.
If you've been keeping track that's a hypothetical ~ 146 unique animations needed, most likely more depending on how many bosses would require them.
TL;DR Your flipping out over nothing, The game is close to finished, and is jam packed with features. All these that have been cut for ship I can safely say will defiantly be revisited to be implemented in a future patch / exp pack.
PS; Realllllly, you're not going to buy it? **trollface**

Ohkay Hai. Bear with me hear, lulz.
1. Core mechanics don't matter if they aren't visible through animations. If you truly believed this, you would be playing Achaea or Gemstone, which are text based online games, instead of waiting for Diablo 3. What the player sees is the most important aspect of any modern game. Case closed. Not talking about graphics, just talking about HAVING graphics and animations, period.
2. They said it's too much of an investment. I don't know what that means to you, but to me it means money. It's not my problem core systems were finalized "6 months ago." When they should have been done a year or two after they announced the fucking game.
Your equation isn't true. If it's a scripted event it means it can be done the same for any class. All they have to do is cause a boss to split a character in half the same way and thats that. If they had no intention of doing the effort they should not have showed it to us. It's akin to eye candy/baiting.
3. It's been 5 years. They were posting about Job requests well before 2008. And I've seen artwork dated 2007. As for "smaller dedicated team" ... Dedicated enough to not finish animations and start removing game systems in 2012?
4. If the Monk doesn't have a full set of animations for his weapons, fuck Blizzard.
5. Place holder, really? We'll see about that. And I'm sick and tired of your "equations" ... The animations and graphics in Diablo are easily last generation, and are already out-dated. They don't need world class animators to create a few animations for these characters.
TL;DR ... I don't agree with anything you say, because you come off as a Diablo Fanboy and not a Diablo Fan but I really hope I am flipping out over nothing. Jay Wilson has always seemed exceptionally seedy to me and I've never fully trusted the game in his hands. Bill Roper is probably aching right now.
Also, they need to stop using the fucking word "Polish"

Don't try to justify what Blizzard deed.
This time, they messed up. Big time!
And believe me, I was supporting every change they did in the game since 2008, because it made sense. but this is just stupid!
This is not torchlight, this is freaking DIABLO 3! and they can't even keep an animation that was worked on more than 3 years ago. I mean, at least keep at big boss fights, such as the Siegebreaker.. *sigh*

As they said themselves the animation in the video from 2008 was specificly scripted to that video and has NEVER been implemented or worked into the game. So they really haven't changed or taken anything out.
It has been one of the things on their wishlist, that there simply haven't been time for.
People really need to take a chill pill. If anyone has ever worked on a big project, they would know that when you estimate something taking a given time, it always end up taking 50-100% longer with a higher cost, cause that's simply how things go. Things spiral out.
i see people wondering what was blizzard doing... let's see.
1- Core game (attack, collision detection, loot drop, AI....)
2- RMAH.
3- NPCs.
4- 5 classes.
5- Skill animations.
6- companions.
7- rune system.
8- Weapons.
9- cenimatics.
10- bosses and monsters.
11- enviroment.
12- monster affixes/ elites.
13- servers and network/bnet.
14- GUI.
15- blacksmith, jeweler.
all the stuff above are critical and are higher priority than what they removed.
what blizzard didn't manage to add.
1- scrolls.(minor)
2- death animation. (minor)
3- talisman, mystic. (major)
4- extra monk animation.(minor/ explained in my previous post)
i probably missed 1 or 2 features but you get the point.

Why do you even come on this forum. I don't think I have ever ... and I mean EVER seen you post anything constructive. Simply "fuck blizzard". It seems like your entire mentality is "OMGZZZZZZ BLI$$ARD DIDN"T MAKE THIS A PVP GAME SO NOW I"M GONNA BITCH ABOUT EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!".
As I said before.... the monk animations do exist... you just don't like them. They are the form they were designed to be based on the animators liking the feel of monks being "punchy". People like you whined an complained and now Blizzard plans to eventually change it.. as Bashiok said this takes alot of time and would probably take 2-4 months alone to implement (while the rest of the teams sit on their hands doing nothing). I work on a REACTIVE SQA team and I can tell you that testing often takes longer than development to complete....
