Everyone and their dog keeps making posts about Blizzard delaying release of Diablo for financial reasons. I'm going to ignore all the reasons that this idea is ridiculous.
AFTER listing them.
1.)Delaying past Christmas misses the biggest sales period of the year, which will surely lose them hundreds of thousands of sales
2.)Continuing production means paying all the developers working on it for that much longer, further decreasing the net profit
3.)The beta still has plenty of bugs, battlenet features are unfinished, and the runes system is still being fooled around with, so clearly it's not ready for release
4.)Delaying release makes stockholders nervous, and since information given to them is public, we know what they know, and they have been notified of no sinister delay conspiracy. So Blizzard would be devaluing its own stock.
5.)It's fucking Blizzard. Since when are long development cycles unusual?
But we're ignoring this, because the most ridiculous part isn't all the very obvious reasons why the idea is insane. The most ridiculous part is the fact that some people think that their own personal convenience means more than the budgets and development cycles and physical health of the development team.
People working on Diablo 3 have been in crunch time (60+ hour weeks) for something like eight months. The company has sank millions of dollars into the project. The development team has spent 5+ years of their lives putting their blood, sweat, and tears into the game.
But your own impatience overrules all objections. The game should be released NOW, because you're tired of waiting. It's not like there are any other things in your entire life you could be doing.
If that doesn't sound not only absurd, but incredibly callous, then you have some life issues to work out.
I would give you +5 if I could. I gave +1 and 5 stars.
I agree with almost everything you said. Except for Christmas. I used to work in retail/appliances store (that was also selling games) and I can tell you income in December is 3 times as big as in January. And December is one fine month to be selling stuff.
But...the point of this post...goes against what you said in yours...but you just said you agreed with it...
To be honest I was one of the panicing ones when I heard the rumors about the delay, and was even thinking about writing a nerd-raging-comic-strip about it (it involved certain Blizzard game directors being eaten by zombies) but... reading his had calmed me down a bit and reminded me that Blizzard are probably not delaying the game just for their own amusement. Unless they are... which... sucks. But I hope they don't!
Agreed. While we all want the game out now, we have been waiting 10 years for it. But I might have to disagree about the Christmas part. I am no business wiz and I am basing it off of my own experience. But I would say the weeks after Christmas could be bigger then before it because you got a lot of people with free money that they feel that they should spend. If Diablo 3 was announced to be release during that time, I think they could earn a good amount of money. But one this is for certain, they got the fan base to still earn a profit regardless of when they release.
Off-topic though, I got about $120 sitting on the side for my Collectors Edition that I pre-ordered for when the release is upon us.

Try February, people are so broke after Christmas they invented valentines day to start up some sort of sale crap to stimulate retail.
Nice post OP.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
Great post! I completely agree. People are getting so impatient and all they want to do about it is complain. May as well do something else that will keep your mind off of it instead of making it worse for yourself.
I'm also kind of confused by the length of the delay. Blizzard has more experience than 99/100 other development teams in the gaming industry, so how could they have miscalculated this so badly?
Yes they do have experience, and they know maken the best game possible is what they want.
People seem to forget, this is the same company that had an almost finished game, and 100% scraped it to never be released, because it was not good enough FOR THEM.
I trust blizzard more than any other company (while it seems more and more people dont know-a-days which makes no since to me) I know they will do whats best for the game, and make the best game they can, that meets their standards(and I like their standards)

While I think your post wasn't meant for this, the bolded part is exactly what I meant with this part of my post: [i]Since we pay for all of this development/OT/delay in the first place, is it really inappropriate for us to say something about the delay? Is it really unacceptable for us to moan about it simply because the game isn't done yet?
Ultimately I think this is a good point because Blizzard needs to do it for us, not for them. And they have done exactly that in the past.
As there is no release date, there is no delay =P (Im just kidding, I hate that argument).
I don't think inappropriate is the right word... Its more of there's no reason to, Blizzard is going to make the best game they can, if you know anything about blizzard, you would know this (not "you" but you as in people). They are not going to delay it for the heck of it either, profits mean a everything to them as well (They are a company). But what is the point of people complaining about a release date doing? How dare they put everything they have into a game to make it the best the can, and they way the want before the release it?
Thats just how I feel people act, just like the OP said, they dont think about all this, its about "I want the game, its not out yet, blizzards has no idea what they are doing"
The second blizzard does it for "us" over "them" is the second their games become the next COD:MW5
They make the game for them and us, by saying they make it for them, I mean they arnt going to release something that does not meet with their standards, thats not something most game companies do now adays.

As opposed to complaining about complainers. Way more constructive.
Frankly, the OP pissing and moaning about people pissing and moaning is about as useful as a Blizzard tweet. Next thread.

well, complaining about complaining is useless I agree, but that's exactly what you are doing as well. OP makes some great points that I admit should have been obvious but I wasn't even thinking in that direction. The majority of people raging in posts seem to be leaning towards blizzard doing this on purpose, which makes next to no sense. They want the game out as much, hell if not more then we do.
I'm sorry OP, but you clearly don't understand one vital and significant reason for all the complaining all the time. The reason is that Blizzard is always misleading us. Everything they have said about the games development has been wrong on almost all occasions. They never give us a clear answer. If they don't know something, why do they always pretend they do and end up being wrong, they should just stfu and give us an clear and concise answer to the development process when they are 100% sure themselves instead of lying to us all the freaking time! This is what makes this long wait soo much more unbearable.
Don't you get it!? THIS IS WHAT THEY WANT! ANARCHY AHHHH!!!!
Blizzards evil plan:
Step 1. Announce super amazing game
Step 2. Never release game but tease for years
Step 3. Wait while everyone kills each other
Step 4. TAKE OVER THE WORLD + THE INTERNETS.
But really, complainings the only thing to do with diablo now a days, a huge chunk of the game is out in the open dangling out there in front of peoples faces. And complaining about complainers. Then complaining about people complaining about complainers.
Lets face it, no ones happy about all the delays - some people are just a little moreso then others. At least this forums better then the official forums... I recommend if you see people complain just ignore them. I do, until now, but i'm more just bored not really complaining.
In conclusion, inside we are all a little frustrated at the development time and lack of date, feeding the fire on either end does us no good.
A part of me wishes Blizzard would be more transparent with their developement progress. But then another part of me thinks people will complain no matter what Blizzard say
