so i have the diablo 3 iphone app and i read an article from INC gamers i believe? and the guy who posted played all the diablo 3 demos (which include alot more then just beta content) at all the events over the years as well as the beta. and then he got to try the Torchlight 2 beta and he said by FAR that the gameplay in TL2 was far more "intense" and much more "fast paced" than diablo 3. the demo's he played in later difficulties of D3 he said just took longer to kill mobs and wasnt as intense, just had to hack more n more to kill each mob VS. more mobs. and by watching the demo's and blizzcon gameplay it does appear to take forever to kill each mob later on in the game. hope it isnt like that on release...
although this is HIS personal opinion of his experience in both games i have to think, comparing diablo 2 and Torchlight, torchlight IS more intense if you play it on harder difficulties and later on in the game, ALOT more mobs then diablo 2 from what ive seen. although i HATE the cartoony graphics and the skill system is a joke and it wasnt online, i much more preferred diablo 2. yes TL2 will be improved but i think diablo 3 will win in the end just as D2 did.
i believe TL2 will be more intense and yata yata, more polished and fine tuned then TL1 but diablo 3 graphics (art direction) + skill/rune system and such will keep my attention while torchlight2 falls into the background with its cartoonyness. maybe to other people graphics arent as important, but i suppose its more about the "feel" mixed with the art.
on a side note, the Torchlight1 super ultra randomness on items was TERRIBLE IMHO. and set items were a joke. because the random stats wouldnt make any sense and you would get numerous worthless stats for classes that didnt even use them. definitely was a big reason i didnt re-play it. and they didnt mention anything about changing this sytem in TL2.
D3's random stat system for items hopefully wont be as retarded as TL1 system was.

If it's anything like Torchlight 1, that "intense" feel is just your character being insanely overpowered. I don't like to hate on TL, but the game got boring fast; no variety whatsoever. I'm guessing torchlight 2 is more of a suger rush, where as D3 will be a "12 hour energy"
You're conflating TL and TL2 - a game with under a year of development and zero budget and one with over two years and twice the size of team.
Save the comparisons until you've actually played both, as Flux has, or, even better, save the comparisons until you've played both in more than the first few hours of gameplay.
In the meantime, this should be moved to the torchlight subdirectory.

diablo 3 general discussion is a discussion of all general things relating to D3 yes? so having this thread being half about D3 means is generally relating to D3 yes? so take your very inflated head out of your ass and realize a discussion on D3 and TL2 can be in either. if a mod makes a decision to move it, then so be it. apply for mod-ship if you have such a hard on. lol

It's just sad - once upon a time, this place was a refuge from the tone at diii.net - never mind that they consistently have better and more independent coverage, this place at least had mods that kept things civil. They wouldn't just have already slapped you down on the basis of your tone, they probably would also see no need for a half-assed, drunken recap of something Flux wrote last week.

No, I want this place to be like it was when it had a mod and a ton of noobs didn't show up with no manners - you know, like the kind that have joined in the past month and already have 200 totally substance-free posts?
But there's no reason to live in the past. Instead, I should take the avalanche of douchiness that crept into the community when the beta started as fair warning of the kinds of people we can expect online when this thing is finally released. I'm sure they'll be gloating about the item that took them a month to get that they just sold for twenty bucks, too.

so a user rating of 1/5 and 29 rep out of 550 posts makes you infinitely better? lol. i argue too much and just post threads out of sheer bordom waiting for D3. not trying to post anything fantastic or intellectual (clearly :P). if your saying you are, then your posts are about the exact same as mine with that user rating/rep. so were like twins! <3

First of all,u try to compare a game series like Diablo with Torchlight? When i saw the post i said "NO WAY,u dont read that".
1.I am sure that u haven't played Diablo 2 back in 2000 via battle net when it released,u say that the game on hell difficulty wasnt intense!Really? And u believe that T1 was harder or sth? That's insane.Hell difficulty on Diablo 2 back then was so hard,so many minions to kill.Unlike T1 that was a completely joke, just a game to relax and have fun when u got bored.I was pretty sure that u hadn't play Diablo 2 ever when u said "comparing diablo 2 and Torchlight, torchlight IS more intense if you play it on harder difficulties and later on in the game, ALOT more mobs then diablo 2 from what ive seen."
2.""D3's random stat system for items hopefully wont be as retarded as TL1 system was."" How can u say such a thing?Diablo 2 item system is one of the best i've ever seen on my gaming experience and by me the one i loved the most.Diablo 3 will definetly have a incredible random item system.
3.Ur friend played "DEMO" of diablo 3 on later difficulties?Wait? Is he an employee on Blizzard or sth?Jesus!
4.Last but not least(as i said at the start),u try to compare Diablo3 with Torchlight2,a "legend" with a "copy".U can't do that
i said i HOPE D3's items system ISNT like TORCHLIGHT's. im not talking about D2's item system...so your getting confused. and play torchlight on very hard, you'll find its MUCH harder and more intense then D2's hell, regardless of now or before. before it was alot harder, but especially now.
also i was saying what this guy said about the gameplay, i havent personally played them. i agree it cant compare. and im in favor of D3. lol

Well, as much as I don't want to derail whatever conversation is currently going on in this thread, I thought this TL2 track from Matt Uelmen was pretty awesome.
As for talking about TL, the game didn't hold my interest more than 10 minutes, but it still doesn't mean it was a bad game. It was more about reviving a stagnant genre that hasn't really been done right the past 10 years by making a casual game. To me, TL1 was the casual gamer release that made Runic Games some money, and now TL2 is something more serious.
I think I'll speak for most people that post on these forums when I say that we all want a good Diablo-tyoe game that has a mix of replaybility, good game mechanics AND a dark gothic feel to it. I haven't been covering TL2 much, but TL is just too cartoony for me. Cartoony worked for WoW, but all we really want a good dark and gothic monster-bashing good time.
People might enjoy TL2 for a short period of time, but it probably won't be enough. The worst case scenario is that TL2's gameplay will be better but its enviroemnt will suck compared to D3. We won't have the best of both worlds.

Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!
I was wondering how long it would take for this place to lose all of its manners after the lead mod left.
First, sixen was not a mod, he was a admin, he did no moderating of the forums, nothing has changed from when he has left, Plus this is a topic comparing D3 to another, it belongs here, that is, as long as this topic stays on track, no more insulting people for their thoughts.
Though it should also be noted that the search should be used next time, we have about 2 other topics on TL2 VS D3 Systems.
TL1 was linear as all hell. There was no action. TL2 beta looks pretty fun, and there will be 'faced paced' action off the bat, while D3 tends to build story, how to play the game, and atmosphere with the first act. So yes, the first hour or two of gameplay will probably have TL2 being more 'action packed' than D3. However, everything after that will be the exact same thing in TL2 while D3 will explode. D3 will have huge amounts of replay and comeback value. I tried to play TL3 on hardcore again last month and didn't make it 30min in before uninstalling.
so in the end i believe TL2 will be more intense and yata yata, more polished and fine tuned then TL1 but diablo 3 graphics (art direction) + skill/rune system and such will keep my attention while torchlight2 falls into the background with its cartoonyness.
I have no idea what the point of this is. Yeah TL1 was simplistic and didn't have staying power but until TL2 has been out for a little while and we get a chance to really sink our teething into it you are simply talking out your ass. Not to say that your prediction is or is not vaild but currently its baseless. Ive been doing the diablo III beta thing since the second wave of F&F invites but if I were to judge it based on this little snip-it I would be less than charitable. Point being, its waaaay too early to start making these kinds of statements....atleast let the developers release the games before you cast them aside.

Indeed, for all the things we disagree on Gheed we share common ground here.

the opinion of the gameplay is NOT from me, its from flux. HE said its slow and TL2 is faster, not me. he played MORE then just the beta and he said even later on the gameplay was slow. so not its not baseless.
its my personal opinion, i can have whatever opinion i like. personally the grahpics of TL1 and TL2 alone would make me choose D3 immediately even if D3 gameplay was lacking in comparison. art direction is important for player attention span. gameplay IS number 1 but if there even remotely comparable the art direction will tip the scales. it looks all bulky and dorky, like a game made for 9 year olds. again my opinion.
if you have an issue with the opinion of TL2 and later game D3 go complain to flux, lol.

I think the dungeon randomness with great monster/mob placement paces the game perfectly. From countless hours on the beta I couldn't critique it one bit. In this respect I think D3 is ideal although I've never played TL2. The sequel is supposed to be worlds ahead of the original. We'll really have to see. On a side note, I think it was a really bad call to push back tl2 to essentially match D3's ETA. If this is what happens the D3 launch will completely eclipse poor torchlight
i didn't know killing about 1000 mobs in the tutorial of the game is too slow and not intense!
i didn't know jar of souls is too slow and not intense!!
i didn't know Elite monsters and affixes that make you change your strategy is not intense!!!
and who knows what else they have for us??!
but TL2 is 20$ and no online requirement make it a good alternative when D3 server is down or i am traveling and the internet is S***y also TL2 being way more mod friendly than D3 it might get a nice extra replay value, so i decided to get both instead of D3 collectors.
BTW from the gameplay i saw for TL2 i find it as intense and fast paced as D3 maybe less at some parts so... they even kept fishing from the first game which eventhough nice and i like it, it is the opposite of fast paced and intense.
Edit: i saw a video for a guy playing TL2 and i am not sure if he is just a noob, retard or the game have targeting issues which is the worst thing to have in an ARPG.
I was wondering how long it would take for this place to lose all of its manners after the lead mod left.
