What's interesting about this thread is that most people claim that WD will be least played but then mention how fun/awesome they are... I have a feeling it might end up being a Diablo series veteran's prime choice come launch
Yes, I realize that they are supposed to be more powerful than the generators, obviously. My point is that the generators really do not generate fast enough. Playing barbarian, I was smashing face and generating fury VERY fast. As a monk, it was taking ages to build up the spirit be able to use my powerful abilities again.
true, reading the skill calc the spirit generated by his generators should be at least doubled, considering he has 200 base spirit vs the 100 fury the barb has, the barb fury spenders use FARRRRR less fury then the monks spirit spenders. lamesauce. hopefully this is fixed
watched a few monk gameplays and it seems alot of people are using spirit spenders only in certain situations and remaining at high spirit most of the time. i dont like how it is, i want to constantly switch back n forth between spirit spenders and generators like fury gen/spend. hmmm... hope blizz is aware of this
Yup, this exactly. Barb there seems to be a nice medium between the two. Monk doesn't feel nearly as powerful or as smooth. I hadn't noticed it until I actually played and was not impressed.
i find it very odd that if this is the case, why did blizz nerf the monks spirit generators?
On the beta the monks ability to acquire spirit is in the toilet.
You can only do spirit generating attacks 90% of the time, in other words you push one button the whole time. Dashing strike is the only thing you can afford the other 10%. Lashing tail kick is awesome, but its so expensive its only worthwhile on bosses. And lethal decoy, lol.
Maybe it gets better at higher levels though.

WD was actually the character that I played the second most. I found WD to be quite fun AND powerful, to be honest. It's all about the skill combinations. With "Grasp of the Dead" and Spiders OR Haunt, I could clear an entire group in just a few seconds (while they were snared too!). It's just not quite as *SMASH* *SMASH* *DESTROY* as all of the other classes. The spiders take a few seconds to target enemies until they actually do damage (I found this kind of annoying), but once they do... oh boy they go to town!
i think the WD will be one of the most powerful end-game. with a spider spam build it will be awesome. couple patches ago before wpn % dmg to spiders, they really sucked, doing 1-3 dmg (lolz) but now that there 38% wpn dmg base with possible increase when runed, + passives...
a build like this http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#WkbhTc!eWZ!bYZYaa will be able to infinitely spam spiders, especially with inspire from the follower, spiders will do 78% wpn dmg per hit (x4 spiders) while returning tons of mana. if only they instantly attacked it would be even more nuts.
can you go into the game and tell me exactly how long the spiders last? because if they last at least 3-4 seconds then you can have like 16-20 spiders out at once,
They seem to last about 3 seconds after they are on the ground.
At 1.2 Atks per second I was able to launch off 5 jars and they started dying just as the 5th hit the ground. In other words, I can have about 16 spiders up if I spam them.

ah sweet thanks, thats still awesome. 16 spiders at 78% wpn dmg per second along with dogs on fire and garg cleave. your minions will do amazing dmg. also since this build is spider spamming (physical realm spell) you could sub in the chance to summon a fetish and have a few of those up, depends on how much dmg they do a piece if its worth it.

umad bro? Witch Doctor seems the least appealing to me, but according to this thread my first choice (monk) is very undesirable as well.
well thats just a select few people. if you look at the threads n posts on the forum front page, the monk is 3rd in popularity and WD is 4th, i think thats about how its really going to be, barb n wiz will always be on top. DH obviously the least played.

lol so surprised to see WD has the most considering how many people i know are choosing him first because he's literally the D2 necro with more powerful summons AND the ability to use high powered spells, if the necro could use high dmg bone spells + have stronger minions he would of been 100x more popular, which is what the WD is.
i believe the DH will be because the amazon was one of the most unused class in D2 (for PVE), first being druid, lolz.
the monk has high votes too which is weird considering he's awesome and similar to the paladin in D2 which was literally the number 2 most played. (hammerdin :P)
The thing is, the mass of players don't really think in those terms. This is not a poll to ask which we think is the strongest/weakest, it is a poll to ask which we think will be played the least by the overall player population. And in this category, stats, skills, comparison to other games, are fairly irrelevant.
Polls on D3 forums as to what people will play are really not representative, it is a sample of only fans and dedicated players.
That being said, I think witch doctor will be the least played, it's the most unfamiliar class which hasn't some of the badass aesthtics of the other classes. Barbarian is the warrior archetype, Wizard the mage archetype and Demon hunter the ranger archetype. I definetly see Monk and Witch Doctor as being the least played.
Between the two I'm not entirely sure but I still would say Witch Doctor, I feel people will be more appealed to the guy that throw kicks than a weird voodoo grandpa.
That being said, witch doctor will definetly be one of my first, probably the one I willlevel with my more casual friends.
Wiz will be the last class I play. No matter what game, MMO or not, it's always been the least appealing type of class/playstyle that I enjoy. I take a Neanderthal approach to gaming- enjoying smashing things with big, heavy weapons while yelling loud obscenities.
Since DH is my least favorite class, I assume it will be used least...cuz most of my friends aren't going to play DH (so am I). Well, this is only my opinion/view.

This has turned from a "Which class will be the least played" to a "this is the class I least like" thread. You're not supposed to vote for the one you like least, you vote for the one you think will be least played out of them all when the game ships. "I vote hurr durr cuz i no liek it" isn't the purpose of this thread.
Ill probably end up playing it, but its going to be the most twinked character of the all due to being last on my play list which should at least provide some minor entertainment (min/maxing to the extreme).

agreed. for the skelly king fight though, i found lashing tail kick to be slightly less useless than lethal decoy in terms of damage per spirit cost.
i was averaging about 110 vs. lethal decoy's 220ish.

i feel like at this point in the game, your own point of reference is the only valid opinion. how else are you going to distinguish between how one is going to be more popular than the other?

You have to separate what your "least favorite" is and think of it as a whole. It's not about what YOU think, but about the collective amount of people coming in from both fan sites like this and from casuals who will be playing because it's a big name Bliz game. Even though Monk is my favorite choice I placed him at second to last played because I feel his popularity is pretty low, but I feel that the WD is the most queer (Strange; odd) of the classes and will be the least played for it's overall un-attractiveness. Barb and wiz are the two classes people will be most comfortable with and the DH will appeal to those who enjoyed the sin/zon in D2.
