the more i think about it. the more i think it will be friday. i mean why would that force guy talk about MoP in a DIABLOcast when hes commented many times on how he knows everyone HATES when you even reference anything to wow from D3... he would be almost intentionally pissing off his entire fan base if this friday was only about MoP by getting everyone who listens to his diablo cast to think this friday has something to do with D3 if it didnt. i mean cmon. sure he can make mistakes but that would be a pretty fucking epic beyond epic fail for him
True. So very true. Very curious why he would be going to Cali and yet not able to tell why.
They won't release on a Friday. They want the week to deal with questions, anxiety, etc. Only 11:30 there right now... still hopeful but not holding my breath.
the logic is there. you can disregard it for no reason or take it as it stands. there is absolutely nothing indicating they couldnt do a friday announcement. and not all press releases for game announcements are on mondays. and speculating on what they "want" is hardly proof of anything but your random thoughts. anything tangible to back up the no friday?
Sure, here.
Blizzard has always made these release date announcements via press release – and for the last several years they have always been done on a Monday (my guess is because that way the PR folk can easily handle inquiries throughout the full week). Here’s some history:
StarCraft 2 release date was announced May 4, 2010 by press release (on a Monday) – release date July 27, 2010
WoW: Cataclysm release date was announced Oct. 4, 2010 by press release (on a Monday) – release date December 7, 2010
WoW: Wrath of the Lich King release date announced Sept. 18, 2008 by WoWHead’s snafu full page advertisement they weren’t supposed to put out yet – originally was supposed to be announced by press release (this was on a Monday) – release date November 13, 2008
WoW: Burning Crusade release date was announced November 9, 2006 by press release (on a Monday) – release date Jan. 16, 2007
World of Warcraft release date was announced Nov. 4, 2004 by press release (on a Thursday) – release date November 23, 2004
man i will be extremly angry at blizz if they dont announce d3 this week, they cuted half the game they claimed thats cuz of rush to release it, they counted weeks they counted days they said 9/10 to announce my patience is gonna end this week ill cut off all my billing to wow and ill go bomb some blizz office i damn swear
I have no idea why people consider 9/10 as somewhat "soon". They've been developing this game for about 5-6 years, so 9/10 could mean anything up to 6-7 months.
They don't say anything (as usual) to not disappoint us.
But this time (and why Im especialy antsy / irratated / was sure it was today) Jay said 9/10 almost 2 weeks ago, then he makes a news post "Couting the DAYS" 3 days ago, ohhhh.. and that news post is tagged "sign of release".
Ohh lets throw in the whole "in the comming weeks" we got way way back at the conference call, then again in Mike Morhiems msg to the comunity..
It all adds up to very reasonably getting our hopes very high today..

not really because a release date announcement wouldnt happen at the start of development
So? They asked how close we are to that announcement. Obviously at the beginning we were at 0/10, 5/10 on the halfway, and 9/10 all the way in last 10% of development time.
It's not really Blizzard's fault people stalk everybody's twitter and thinks a tweet about baking banana bread on Thursday means they are going to announce the date on Thursday. This weeks press event and March 19th have absolutely nothing to do with Diablo and these dates were announced back in January. They are specifically to talk about Mists of Pandaria. Maybe we will get a surprise? Who knows? But to EXPECT one is setting yourself up for disappointment.
I'm just as angry there is no release date yet but at this point I'm not going to get my hopes up on every Monday and get pissed off when the office closes. There's no way the game is coming out in April and May is looking pretty grim at this point.

guess im too old to actually get upset or irritated by this sort of thing. I still have my hopes for today, but I've got work here in a little and have to get ready. The only dissapointment I'm having today is that I had no good news today considering I had ordered several things online and was hoping some of it would ship today but haven't even gotten a single email today along with no release date on d3, so I'm a little pouty so far. but there is still time for something to go my way today.

This! Although.. yes I was hoping for one today, but if there's not one today it might be tomorrow, or the day after (or whatever, some monday, I don't care). People feeling somehow 'entitled' to a release date simply because the company said they're 'counting down the days'... God.. It's just an expression, stop taking every god dang comma these folks spit out so literally. I'd not want to be in Blizzard's shoes right now, with the development stress of the game on one hand and a bunch of spoilt brats whining that their precious game's been delayed by a few days on the other...
fucking disgusting how they mentioned all the "big accouncement in the coming weeks" "9/10 imminent major announcement" and this is all weeks ago at this point, with the big announcement comment being a fucking month ago.
"were cutting 600 employees, but dont worry there is a big exciting announcement for d3 in the coming weeks!"
*one month later*
"ok so the big exciting annoucement is that we are cutting pvp from diablo 3 and we still dont have a release date!"
I don't think I'll be getting diablo 3 at release anymore.
The PvP update wasn't in the morning, but that's not quite the same thing as an actual release date announcement. Unlike the Cata one, I don't know the timing of other recent Blizzard titles but I'm pretty sure those were also done sometime in the morning. It likely has to do with the whole reasoning of having it on a monday in the first place. To get PR stuff sorted. Plus Europeans also get the info at a decent time.
Not to diss the PvP fans out there but it's not as big a deal as the release. In the big picture of things anyway.
Also doing it later this month might help steal some hype thunder from Guild Wars 2, which is supposed to have its public beta start up later this month.
While you can overestimate marketing concerns, don't underestimate them either.
could still be today...them having to reset servers because everyone goin further than they supposed to might have delayed everything on their schedule.

devs have nothing to do with press releases =P 100% different departments.
I do think the way they jerk customers and fans around is more than disappointing. Their refusal to give anything substantial before the fact is all for hype. They know when it'll be released, they've probably known for several, if not more, months. But not telling, merely hinting, gets fans to keep checking in on them and builds up excitement. It's blatant manipulation all for the sake of hype.
I'm willing to give it until the 26th. I think at that point my patience is pretty much going to run out. This situation reminds me of a quote from a very good movie. "You know what I'm going to do about it? NOTHING! Because if I take it to small claims court, it will just drain 8 hours out of my life and you probably won't show up and even if I got the judgment you'd just stiff me anyway. So what I'm going to do is piss and moan like an impotent jerk, then bend over and take it up the tail pipe!"

Blizzard brought this on themselves by:
1. Announcing the game about 2 years too early.
2. STRONGLY hinting at release windows (end of 2011, Q1 2012, "Early 2012"), despite their denial of ever doing so.
3. Constantly updating us about nothing. (They really should have stopped communicating with us, no info is better than constant teasing).
4. Trolling their fans' desire to play this game (bashiok for example seems to love to just be a massive dick for no reason).
This is not about being "entitled" or "spoiled." It's about simple expectations. If you announce a game, its safe to assume that it will be out in 2 years. If you say the game is coming out in a certain window, it's safe to assume that the game will come out around then. I and everyone else support Blizzard with our money, while no company should bend to the will of it's customers completely, to ignore them or even worse (Bashiok) insult them, is altogether idiotic.

And for better or worse, it's working. So.. yeah.
Certainly works, but it angers and frustrates people as well. It's not exactly the most respectful way to treat their fans and customers.

I get tired of people coming on this forum (A diablo 3 Fan site forum) and going back to that same old silly line about us acting like we "are entitled" to a release date. No.. we are not entitled to anything, its not like we own anything that gives us a right to anything here at all.. but to come on here.. to a fan site.. and try to say "stop being excited, your not entitled" is just silly. This is a FAN site for a game that IS NOT EVEN OUT YET. Those of us on here are going to be and are going to get excited over stuff like today. Today was/is a day very reasonably worth getting excited about for all the reasons that have been laid out in this thread over the last few hours.
Does Blizzard "owe" me a release date? No.. of course not. But I dang well will get excited about stuff like this.. thats why I hang out here (And have been since back in July).

@JohanLoveNilsso@Angryrobotics The fans at diablofans are going crazy. They think you(Blizzard) are trolling the fans by messing with the pressrelease site.Jay Wilson
@Angryrobotics@JohanLoveNilsso I get accused of trolling whether I say something or not.I was thinking the samething
