I love this announcement seeing the Necro make its way into D3. The Witchdoctor is a great addition to the Diablo universe, but it was never a true replacement for the bone minion army.
Now that we know this is coming as DLC, is it possible that this is just the beginning and not just some one-off addition?
With the current setup of classes, we have 2 Str, 2 Agi and 2 Int. I'm assuming the Necromancer will be a new Int class. Could this pave the way for the return of the Amazon (Agi) and shapeshifting Druid (Str)?
Druid had the fewest points into strength at level 1: 15! They could change that, though.
But I'm all for many more classes, also to support the further development of D3.
Druids are related to the Barbarians, so strength makes the most sense.
But to OP; I'm hoping that what is happening is that Blizzard decided to not do a once-every-two-years expansion pack, and instead a 2-3 times a year DLC type pack that will eventually tell the rest of the story.
At least that's what I'm hoping in my head canon, because otherwise I've lost all faith.
Doubt the Amazon. The whole point of amazons is that they are an all female groupe.
Ah shit, I didn't think about that. I don't even know how that could be circumvented; maybe it'll be the first female-only class. I'd be totally fine with that, even if I prefer to play as the male option in games with gender choice.
If they can release 2-3 new classes a year i would be a happy bunny.
At the end of the day it would all boil down to price, i am happy to support them as long as they don't take the piss, if i see the necro priced at £29.99 then i am out. 15-20 is what i would find resonable.

10 for a new class. 15 pushes it but 20 is out of the question.

I was thinking 5-10. $5 if just the character/class, $10 if it included much more (a few zones, game mechanic, etc.).
I agree with $15-20, that seems to be the most realistic assumption. I'd love it to be $5-10, but that isn't realistic considering all the art and design that goes into it, even a Heroes Skin costs more.
I think this class release is the best case hope for this game. It periodically adds revenue and maintains a player base without massive resources. Fixing D3 to what everyone would have hoped for is long gone. The expansion fixed a lot, but grifts, paragon, and one day character building killed this game.
Start with a clean slate and work on D4 with some solid foundation and concepts, but its going to be on the back drop with all the other titles running right now.

Agreed, the reason we have to pay in general though is just one company called: Activision
Oh so developers are free? Blizzard is spending at least $3-5M a year (if 30 to 50 people) just in development (dev, qa, ba, pm, cm, etc) salaries for Diablo 3. That doesn't include tech support, marketing, taxes, server costs, etc

I like the concept, but I think that screws up gearing a lot unless the class has a way to convert stats- at which point it doesn't even matter what the main stat is. If you go wolf and gem all agi-gear, you have a harder time trying out new builds. Compare that to any other class who just has to swap a set and some abilities, not regem and re-enchant everything.
I cannot believe you guys are moaning about cost of the future DLC. $10 or $15 is fine while $40 is too much? Why? What is the reasoning there? How much do you spend on a night out with your special someone - movie, dinner. How much did that set you back and how many hours of entertainment did you get?
Well how much is an expansion pack that adds a new character? $50? And how much content would we consider that, since the campaign is usually something you just do once or twice for the story?
$15-20 to me is reasonable for a discounted 'Expansion Pack' that cuts out the story content and new enemies. The latter seems to be given to us for free over time anyways. Of course, I'd prefer a full expansion pack, but it doesn't seem like Blizzard thinks sales will be lucrative enough to push out another package product. This DLC fits way better to hitting their demographic who wants the content without having to wait years for a full expansion pack to be made.

I'll be honest -- if they start releasing like 1 class per quarter @ 19.99 -- I'll probably buy them.
But they need to release something the size of an act at least once per year. (Hopefully for free).

blizzard can go ... themselves.

Druid should be:
Str if bear
Dex if wolf
Int if caster
a triple base class would be interesting.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable spending $15 for 1 hour of content.
I mean, it takes longer to get to commander level 15 in SC2 than it does to get a character fully geared from scratch in this "game"

How much do other games cost and how much enjoyment do you get out of them seems like they are more pertinent questions.
