well , maybe in other games the companion mechanism is fine
but i feel in D3 it doesn't belong at all
(the game should be dark and Gothic, and the chicken \ bunny detached from this notion)
i mean come on blizzard just put it away.
I dont see anything wrong with it, it helps focus on getting to that next horde of monsters instead of chasing down the last bit of gold. and the fact that they have chickens and cats (i think i saw a pig/sheep) it's just something to give the players a little laugh, it made me laugh when i saw it, and then wondered how many different types of companions there are...it is just something small that has no negative affect on the game, even the burliest barb could have a pet of some kind!
Saw what appeared to be a centipede in a video .. that was pretty cool for sure. However, I also saw the cute white bunny, and that is a definite no no for this game. It does appear to be random tho what you get when summoning I noticed.
If you don't like it don't use it. Of all the things to complain about, you choose the little creature that is running around gathering all your gold for your lazy ass.
Where do you get the idea that you have any say in what "is Diablo" and what isn't? Diablo 3 is a commercial venture by Blizzard Entertainment in order to generate profit, they own the IP they own all of the previous generations and therefore it is entirely up to them to decide what "is Diablo". If you don't like it then don't use it, it's just a game mechanic, but one I'm sure people will generally approve of.
Maybe change the companion to something more dark, but other than that, I really dont see the problem with having something pick up your gold....but thats just my two cents...

~ Some people are still alive only because it is illegal to kill them ~
I like the idea and find it funny that you can have a bunny hopping around with you while fighting zombies and demons. It's not like it sparkles and shoots rainbow lasers out.
Is it even confirmed you can see other people's companions? You can't see other people's gold, why would you be able to see their companion go pick up piles of nothing?
So the advantages of the companion pets are that I can keep up my leveling pace while still getting all of my gold. So now, because you didn't use it I've out leveled you. So now I win? Or am I going to keep playing completely unaware of your existence within the game? Why does it matter so much to guy A if guy B got ahead? He's not stealing your loot just because he had a better pace. I personally think the pets are a fine addition, and as many have said it's rather humorous to watch a tiny little rabbit do a mad dash through a group of undead to make sure you got that 2 gold. Priceless.

I find it useful and some of them are funny.
Ha. Bagstone.
if i dont use it someone else gaining advantage (by using it) so optional is not the word i would use
Are you... are you suggesting someone gains an advantage by using these companions?
Not sure if serious.
