Starcraft 2 has offline mode if I'm not mistaken, which means that the "jailbreak" of that is a lot more easily, as all the game functions are stored on your computer.
'Jailbroken' .. never .. jailbreak is when you replace the kernel or low level operating system on a device to remove restrictions .. terminology is incorrect
When will they crack the client security and emulate an offline server? As others have stated .. probably only months for something you can log in, move around and do some sort of a quest or attack something., but it will be buggy, broken and even after year it will still be a shadow of the game ..
I had hoped that Blizzard would want to take advantage of the PC platform and allow offline single or network play or even a mod toolkit so that fans can use the engine to build their own senarios/mods as people have done in the past .. but their focus/DRM is all about security and integrity of the game.
D3 will work much similar to WoW, meaning that alot of data you get from the server (NPCs, monsters, loot calculation, etc). I don't think you can clone server's architecture within a short amount of time, it will take quite some time to figure out how it works and manually reproduce it. Which still would be a pale copy of official servers. Up till now, even the most popular pirate wow-servers are handicapped.
P.S. Playstation 3 was also impossible to brake /jk cracked year ago.
just like wow it will take years to get a working private server
and just like wow if you ever play the original
you can't go play on those crappy private servers
Btw, everyone keeps saying "Well WoW was hacked, so D3 should be able to be also!" WoW has never been fully hacked. The private servers you see now are custom scripted. There have been times when pieces of the programming have been stolen but not the whole thing.

This is not the case. Multiplayer depends on the original balance in WoW, but in Diablo it won't matter.

If you have srs bzns to conduct with me, better send a private message.
There will be an offline mode. The tricky part is the mapping of the server functions that the client calls to as well as making character save file on the pc. This can only be done by people who are very experienced in programing. It is not just making a few edits to a dll or exe but likely massive amounts of edits and creating new dlls and files that mimic the server.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
Get real... it will happen, the same way there was private servers for wow there will be private servers to play d3. don't think for 1 second that blizzard can outsmart every1 out there. plus all this hype around no off-line is just a tease and a challenge for us to accomplish what we are meant to do. it may not happen the day next after release so the question is how will it work and not when
Actually the true reason for online only:
This popularity of this game is immense! So a lot will buy it. However, many people will pirate it as well. So Blizzard makes it straight impossible to crack Diablo 3. You need content from their servers to get the game working. It might be possible to crack Diablo 3, but it will take a long time. During that time many of those piraters will just buy the game instead.
It's all about the money my friends...

The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t...
Wow, does the majority really thing it will be cracked? I assumed it would be impossible with the client/server architecture. Maybe I can play the game after all.

Because Blizzard kicks ass with their games it's inevitable. There is a whole market of retailers ready to resell offline copies.
