Hey all, I just wanted to start a bit of a discussion on how long you think Diablo 3 should be on completing one play-through of normal difficulty.
For me, I have been waiting soooooo long for this game, so if an entire play-through of normal difficulty, exploring everywhere there possibly is; takes less than 10 hours. Well I will be very very disappointed!
I will definitely play this game from normal difficulty all the way to inferno difficulty with every single character. However, I am a person that really likes to enjoy my games with a nice steady pace, looking at everything there is, experiencing every nook and cranny.
Diablo 2 LOD took me around a week and a half to complete normal difficulty (probably around 15 hours of gameplay), playing how I mentioned above. I really hope Diablo 3 will take me AT LEAST the same amount of time to do the same thing. I would prefer double the time though. I mean, I just want to experience this game in its entirety before starting again on Nightmare difficulty.
My hopes are your hopes. I hope it lasts me a long time just to get through the initial playthrough. But at the same time doesn't grow stale or a chore to play through on higher difficulties or with new characters.
With that in mind... considering 5 characters and 3 difficulty walkthroughs... 15-20 hours for a complete walkthrough sounds good only if I can play through it much faster if I want.

Exactly. I would guess though that once you had your feel with around 15-20 hours of gameplay through normal difficulty and know everything their is to know. Than with new characters and what not, it shouldn't be hard to run through each difficulty in shorter amounts of time.
They already said that the length of the game won't be bigger than Diablo 2.
Which I think is sad considering that the length of D2 was fine, 13 years ago. With this much time in development, you'd think they'd have had time to increase the size and scope of the game.
I know that they are banking on the multiple play through on different difficulties to bump up the "game length in hours" but that's sorta a cop-out these days.
I've voted for 6-10h long leaning on the 6 when you know what you're doing. but then you times that by 4 cuse they expect you to rerun it on all difficulties.
I just hope the act 4 in this game isn't as boring as the Act 4 in D2.. I look very much forwards to the linear mapstyle of D3.. I always hated the "large-box" style of mapping in D2 =(
I think that will change the whole perception of the Diablo series.
I would run through corners and fight every monsters till that map is complete. I pretty much do this to every action rpg games thats isometric view. I'm also the kind of player that scans through the environment (although I still tend to miss stuff) and I sometimes back track without a reason.
When a review article mentions a game has 10 hours of gameplay I already know how long will be mine, around 15 hours. If diablo 3 is 15 hrs long then I'll probably finish it after 20+ hours. I will also play solo the first time through, friends knows that and they won't dare to disturb me.

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
I voted perhaps 4-6 hours straight if you sat down and played. Although the first time it may take longer if you dont know where your going.

i voted somewhere around 10 and maybe a little more than 15 hours (took 2 options) for the first playthrough. Nightmare, Hell and especially Inferno should be much harder and take more time, however.
Diablo 3 will be slightly larger/longer than Diablo 2. It was said that there plans were to have them roughly the same size but D3 ended up being larger to fit all of the content the needed.
So depending on how long it took you to play through normal on D2, I would add about 2-4 more hours on top of that.

What is your opinion about gameplay length?

Got to agree with this one.
