In the videos that Blizzard shows us, each character type seems to be fighting solo in the video... Now blizzard also says that this is supposed to be a multi-player game and soloing is not something that will be done alot. In other words they built the game to get rid of the "soloing" aspect from D2. But in these videos, blizz shows off each character for 75% of the videos by soloing.
It seems just as hard to do coop as it is to solo. So how does this get rid of the "soloing" aspect from D2?
Well, the videos are highlighting a particular class so that is why it is mostly single.
As for promoting co-op, there are a few examples:
Items - each player receives their own items. this is a double reason for co-op. One, there is no more fighting for loot. Two, there can be more potential loot with more players.
Exp bonus- you get exp bonus for kill chains, the more people there are the easier it is to get these.
they are not trying to get rid of soloing, they are just trying to promote co-op

everyone gets different loot. I might get a magic boot while you get a rare glove.
More potential means that if there are 4 people playing, then 4x the loot is dropping. Not for each player but each player gets their own loot. So, if you are a wiz and a wd gets an orb, he can give it to you. this increases your chance of getting loot for your character.

I think it is important to emphasize what ScyberDragon said. You can play this game solo just like you could in every other Diablo game and it will be enjoyable. They just know that a majority of the players loved the co-op in the the games and Blizzard has really polished the co-op in turn. They want people to play co-op because they nailed it. They even went as far as to put a mechanic in the game known to us as followers whos' soul purpose is to show a tastes of what your missing if you play solo(holding back negative thoughts on this system...(Grrr singleplayer only)). And that's the way the cookie crumbles.

"Give a man a skill tree, and he will become a Fire Sorc. Give a man 6 skills to choose from, pulling from all three trees, and he becomes a Fire Sorc that likes to shoot lightning to manage the bigger crowds."
Yeah, I like the stance they're taking. Personally I don't really like coop unless I'm playing with friends, so I'll probably end up soloing if friends aren't available. Plus, it's easier to comb through the game and find every treasure chest and talk to every character if other people aren't hassling me
So how does this get rid of the "soloing" aspect from D2?
I'm just going to mention that you will never ever get rid of soloers in any game at any time unless you make it that it's impossible to log into the game without being in a group.
Blizzard will encourage grouping with various things such as quicker killing of enemies, more XP, more items, the usual.
As much as cooping can be fun with the right people, I always solo a considerable amount of time due to my pace of play and I would ask that you do not try to encroach onto my style of play in a game that, honestly, began more as a single player game than a multiplayer game.

I completely agree with that, you can't take the "soloing" out of the game, but in games like WoW, for i.e., you'll never reach the same gear/skill level as other people, if you play solo.
What i loved about diablo 1/2 is the fact that i was able to make a new game, "mf" my way through and still would be on par with co-op people. (with some luck and much more work, i agree).
So my question is, am i going to be able to play diablo 3 in the same way i played diablo 2 ? making my own game to get the same gear you got it running with your friends ?
Thank you,
ps: My deepest appologies about my english, trying to get better on it.
Besides the aforementioned pro's to playing coop (higher monster difficulty means better loot, xp bonus etc)
it should be the same as in D2, you should be able to obtain the same gear playing solo vs coop.
So people who play Co-op will be getting better gear than me because I ride solo?

This makes me happy in the sense that people wont be able to leech off of me.
