Gotta be barb. Every RPG I've ever played I've started with the biggest, baddest, melee muscle-bound monkey knuckle-dragger.
I really wanted to try Monk first, but I just can't do that to myself. I have a feeling the Monk will be one of the most fun characters to play. Why? Because of all the defensive options, and the (seemingly) infinite number of offensive combos. I see Monk as probably the hardest Character to beat in PvP, if built and played right.
But at the end of the day, hulk mad, hulk smash. That's my modus. I can't stand playing casters, never could. I just think killing should be personal, messy. Casters just seem so, I don't know, pretentious or something. You should feel bones smash and eyeballs gouge. I wanna feel the equal and opposite force of my deathblow running back up my arm. Ok, I sound like a psychopath right now. =/

I'm usually a caster but after playing all of the character at blizzcon '10 i don't think i could go with anything other than the from a gameplay point of view. The play style is so dynamic and really requires you to think on the fly. That being said they better have some awesome gear sets for the monk because after the 2 or 3 sets they have shown for the and everything else is looking a little bland IMHO.
I'm going to start out with a Monk then Wizard comes second. I really only find these two classes to be awesome, the other ones are meh in my opinion. I think eventually tho i will play them all
Every class seems very attractive in some way or another, every time I think I've made a decision, I see another amazing spell from a different class and throw my hands in the air.
Right now that spell is Seismic Slam or whatever, god damn that spell looks so awesome.
Speaking of which, anyone know of any of the seismic slam spell rune effects? I could see some serious awesomeness happening there.
I don't know though, I love the aesthetics of the Witch Doctor, Blizzard scored huge points with me on the voodoo masks, especially the "living" ones.
I'll probably start with a male Barb, to get the hang of things. Next a female wizard (my favorite char from what we've seen), and play all of them eventually.
Been dying to play the Witch Doctor since the first gameplay trailer; I think they have the most interesting and innovative aesthetic out of the new classes, and the pet / curses / ranged magical damage (i.e., Necromancer) has always been my favorite role. I'm very excited though by the Wizard as well, and everyone loves the Barb sometimes.
Really not attracted to the Demon Hunter, though the skills look pretty cool; I'm still a bit annoyed at the name, considering they're all hunting demons...
I was going to play Demon Hunter first, since he's pretty awesome in my opinion, however, my girlfriend decided she wanted to play the Demon Hunter first, since "she's the only one that is pretty and not asian-looking or man-looking". So, I'll probably play a witch doctor first. Especially since they can summon a Fetish Army... and even the sight of a Fetish annoys her to no end. Just imagine when I've got a constant army of them swarming all over the place.
Actually after watching that PvP video they have on the main page of the site here, I have to say the Wizard looks like so much fun. I know she was my second pic, but after seeing that video I am undecided between the wizard and demon huntress.

Bah!

I think its mostly cause of teleport
but i'd say wizard will be my main character.. I probably won't touch other characters till I max my Wizard and beat the game.

"Not Even Death Can Save You From Me" ~ Diablo (II)
As in D2, Barb 1st.. always barb. Not so sure which gender, but with the male barb having lore carry over from D2.. i'm leaning towards him.
I really want to like the male monk character, being a martial arts fan myself. He just seems a little off design wise. I can't even really put my finger on it, but not sure if i like his appearance. Maybe its the crown-like head gear. Might try out the female monk. She looks more like a monk type martial artist IMHO.
My first reaction was the barb. But now it seems so... common, I get the feeling half of the players on bnet are going to have their main as barb. But I do like the idea of melee so... monk? maybe... But I get the feeling that the monk just wont be able to hold his own face-to-face, more dart into the mob, strike and dart back out again, like spastic cat going after a yarnball. But I will say from from the party footage we have seen blizzard release the monk was generally leading as the main agressor (even over the barb). Is this just individual player style or archetype?

From what I understand, the monk seems to be the type of guy that has buffs that carry over to other, close by characters. , in this aspect, reminds me of a Paladin.
This may have also been around the time that they revealed the monk character. If so, it's natural that they would want to keep the focus on him at that time. Just my thoughts/opinions.
Monk, Wizzard and Demon Hunter (all Male) by order of preference.
Barbarian not so much, because well, it's somehow already "known" and I've never been into him and Witch Doctor is a no go for me, really not my play style.
I will sure try them out, but I'm pretty sure I'll never play them very high up.
Among the existing classes I more and more tend to try out the Monk first. A couple of months ago I'd say otherwise, but the more I think of game progression of each class the more I feel like starting with this one. The alternatives aren't really tempting in my vision of their class specific.
Wizard is a typical mage in every possible way. Not in a single RPG game I ever liked playing any mage classes as long as I had a choice of melee. I just don't feel like playing one at all. Those wands and orbs instead of swords and polearms... Mantle instead of shiny full plate armor... I have no sympathy nor interest in spamming spells from afar. I'll give her a chance someday, but it's not a class I feel like starting a game with.
Barbarian is a good old blunt melee overkill of raw power. War machine incarnation is a good way to begin an acquaintance with a new game being as simple and straight-forward class as one can be. It's appeal is strong, but... It feels old somehow. I mean Barbarian class is basicly played the same way it was before and doesn't seem to bring any innovative game mechanics to taste. I was going to start with him but I feel more like trying something fresher at first. Another good reason not to start with one is that I feel like almost everyone around will be Barbarians day one.
Witch Doctor is not my type. I loved Necromancer class and enjoyed some Druid summons, but Witch Doctor is just one single class in a game I don't feel like playing at all. At least not before I try out every other class there is. It's aestetics, visual design and common flavor are so twisted I don't like it. I can see why some people tend to enjoy it, however. 'Exotic' would be the right word to describe him I suppose.
Demon Hunter was going to be my first played class... As long as it wasn't a Demon Hunter it is. One of the most interesting classes from a gameplay point with all those traps and decoys combines dynamic action with phisical ranged attacks which I enjoy a lot. Сrossbow is my second favourite weapon after the polearms... What I don't really like about this class is it's style and general feel. Would be lovely to have a Bard instead as a reference to first Diablo game in some way. But the way it is it just feels somehow fairytalish to me. Don't like the design. Still it's possible I'll start with this class, not sure.
Monk is a melee character and it suits me well unlike Wizard. He seems to be more interesting then a Barbarian in a sense of skill usage diversity and more fresh also. It's design is much more unique and crisp then of a Demon Hunter. He perhaps can use polearms wich I love. And he isn't as alien and twisted as the Witch Doctor. So I feel like trying this class at first. There is still a good chance to change my mind during beta while new skills, rune effects and further details unveiled.
In a year after release I'll probably have a character of each class at 60th level. May be I'll love each of them when I get to try them myself. But that is how I feel right now.

It is told that Buddha, going out to look on life, was greatly daunted by death. "They all eat one another!" he cried, and called it evil. This process I examined, changed the verb, said, "They all feed one another." and called it good.
